Is the driver the application that lets the computer recognize the hardware? Are you talking about a driver that you found on the HP website that's associated with your particular scanner model? If it is, than yes -- the driver IS the software which helps the computer recognize the hardware. If the HP website has a download for that driver, then I think you should give it a shot. ~Light Rises

It IS wonderful to see those lyrics on the board, and at the bottom of every page too! I congratulate you on the lovely find, Veg, and thank LGBB and Zelda for making the effort to create this graphic and post it here. *bows*

I've been thinking about this, and I have to agree more with Sean here. I see how this could be a fun little feature, yes, but it also seems like something that could be far too easily abused. While disagreeing with someone's opinion isn't necessarily equatible with judging that person, and while agreeing and disagreeing is a perfectly normal occurence on message boards, the "Karma" feature could easily stray away from that use and turn into something of a popularity contest, with people "Exalting" others simply because they like them, and not necessarily because they agreed with someone's specific statements (there's no stats, for example, on each post, keeping track of how often that individual post was "Exalted" or "Smitten"; rather, it's tacked onto the person's personal profile). Now, we ARE a rather level-headed group, so I don't see this feature being used unjustly right away. Heck, it might be kept completely under control, with everyone understanding the rules for its use and respecting those rules. That being said, though, I still smell some trouble with this feature; there just seems to be too much potential here for people's feelings to get hurt, even if unintentionally (I'd hate to see, too, just how "trolls" might abuse it).

I don't have as much time as I would like to put all my fan fic/story ideas on paper or the computer. But I'm glad to have SOME amount of time to do so - even if it's shorter than I would have liked (like my crossover fic, I would have liked to lengthen it more, but with time constraints and writer's block it's hard to do it the way I want). Lol, you and me both. It can be very easy for me to generate ideas and then visualize them, but it's getting them all written down somewhere at some point that gets to be the problem. The hardest thing for me is getting started (not just at the beginning of a story, but at the beginning of every writing session), and the fact that I usually write at the speed of molasis inching down a five degree incline doesn't help things much, either. Man, I LOVE reading, especially novels...although I haven't read for pleasure as much as I'd like to lately ( Note-to-Self: Must fix that). And yeah, I always ask for constructive criticism, too -- even though it's not necessarily something I want to hear, lol. But I know it's good for me, and it's a good way to develop a thick skin, so I take it anyway. ~Light Rises

Hmm, that stinks. I use italics, bold, and underlined pretty often too. But, I really wasn't aware of that part of the site, since I haven't looked into it a whole lot. I just sorta found it while surfing the net and thought it might be worthwhile to keep on hand. I don't see very many decently-run fan fic sites like that. That's too bad about the HTML, though. Yeah, that is too bad. *shakes head* And it's so true how hard it is to find decently-run writing sites, much less well-run fanfic sites. The only other decent site of this type which I've come across is called Writing.com, which I was a member of a long, long while back. The interface there is really well-done, they allow HTML tags -- you can even create colored type, using said HTML tags. And they DO have a "Fanfic" category there, although Writing.com is definitely more geared toward original ficiton. The problem, though? You're only allowed to upload up to five submissions if your account type is free, and each chapter of a multi-chapter story MUST be its own submission. I haven't visited there for MONTHS, though, so it's possible that that's changed. But they seemed to be taking away more and more privileges from its free members the last time I checked (its a really slick, professionally-run site, so that's almost understandable), so I highly doubt it would do any of us any good. *sighs*...Well, at least there's DA, and of course the "Fan Writings" section here on the board (and I'll still post on FF.net for now...although with some decided reservations). Speaking of which...hmm...I'm not quite sure about that proposal, Sean, but I want to hear everyone else on this before I say "yea" or "nay" just yet. ~Light Rises

Hmm...in that case, Joy, I really don't blame you for leaving FF.net. I guess we've just been lucky in the M.I. section so far, since we haven't encountered those kinds of problems as far as I know. But it's VERY worrisome to think that this could happen in the future, if we were to come across some of those "holier-than-thou" jerks and not be able to do anything about it. So, yeah -- I really don't blame you. ...Well, I checked out the FF.org link, and I decided to sign up for an account. It seems like a pretty nice site, and the mods seem to be genuinely nice, good-humored people...but once I logged in the first time, I found out that you can't use HTML tags in your submissions (which sucks for me, since I use italics a lot). I browsed other fanfics there to see if anyone's somehow got around that or knows something that I don't know...but so far, no luck. ~Light Rises

Then again...we should be a little lenant... I mean afterall, FF.net has done some for us... Well, it IS true that our stories on FF.net probably get more traffic than they would via our DA accounts. And the chance is also much better that someone will sorta "stumble" across our fics on FF.net (like someone who doesn't usually visit the M.I. section but decides to give it peek anyway) than on DA, at least as far as I know. Heck, that's how *I* found out that Randall had such a following, and about you guys.^^ That's why I'm probably gonna post on both DA and FF.net, and then see how that goes. ~Light Rises

Yeah, I've noticed that. Now that I think of it, that actually screwed up a review I sent to YOU for the first chapter of your "One True Place" fic. I have to guess this is some sort of bug in FF.net's system, although WHY that hasn't been fixed yet (since this problem's been around for quite awhile now), I have no idea. They either just don't have enough mods there to address all these bugs (which isn't a very good excuse anyway, because they SHOULD), or they just don't care, since they haven't gotten enough complaints about it or they just see it as an "inconsequential" issue. Just. Plain. Ridiculous! ...Y'know, I've been thinking about posting "Homecoming" on DA, too, as well as any and all of my upcoming fanfics (I can make and post images for each of them, which is a very nice feature -- and no stupid 3-consecutive letter bug!). I'll still post on FF.net for the time being, though...at least until they do something that really, completely p.o.'s me, that is. ~Light Rises

Sheezy Art looks good, but I think I'll stick with DA, just because I've got an account there, so I figure there's no point having another one. ;D Yeah, I see your point. Having multiple, multiple online accounts can get pretty confusing, especially if you haven't written down all of your passwords somewhere and can't even keep them all straight in your head in the first place. Not that I'm talking about anyone in particular... *whistles not-so-innocently* ;D ~Light Rises

Log ins are annoying sometimes aren't they? Yeah; especially on huge sites that can get very buggy at times. ~Light Rises

Yup, it is -- in fact, in many ways, it runs in almost EXACTLY the same way as DA does, as far as I can tell. The big difference is that you can actually customize your web gallery, although I think I've heard that you have to know some HTML in order to use that feature. You can also post original and fanfiction there, which is why I've been toying with signing up with SheezyArt for the past few days (along with keeping my other accounts, of course). Oh! And here's a link, in case you're curious: sheezyart.com~Light Rises
