Thought I'd try it out as it was a new feature of proboards- underneath everyone's avatars is now this exalt/smite thing, where members rate each other, basically. Just thought I'd let you know.

Well, I think it's witty. ^_^ Thisd way, if somebody says something you like/don't like, but you really have nothing to say, you can simply click "Exalt" and "Smite" instead of making a useless post just saying "I agree" or whatever.
Plus, I believe in Karma in real life, so what's wrong with bringing in something like it on the digital plane?

I've been thinking about this, and I have to agree more with Sean here. I see how this could be a fun little feature, yes, but it also seems like something that could be far too easily abused. While disagreeing with someone's opinion isn't necessarily equatible with judging that person, and while agreeing and disagreeing is a perfectly normal occurence on message boards, the "Karma" feature could easily stray away from that use and turn into something of a popularity contest, with people "Exalting" others simply because they like them, and not necessarily because they agreed with someone's specific statements (there's no stats, for example, on each post, keeping track of how often that individual post was "Exalted" or "Smitten"; rather, it's tacked onto the person's personal profile). Now, we ARE a rather level-headed group, so I don't see this feature being used unjustly right away. Heck, it might be kept completely under control, with everyone understanding the rules for its use and respecting those rules. That being said, though, I still smell some trouble with this feature; there just seems to be too much potential here for people's feelings to get hurt, even if unintentionally (I'd hate to see, too, just how "trolls" might abuse it).
