Although under the link above, Randall's also under the boss category....I'm thinking this is rather a personal choice under the page creator. I mean if your able to play Randall, and as he has a figure you can, then your not really the bad guy. That's what I thought, with my limited knowledge of games. If a character is playable, YOU have control over that character's role, and you decide if you want to play them as a "good guy" or "bad guy", regardless of how they were portrayed in their respective movies. pitbulllady

Found a picture of some more toys including another Randall one. Neat! Do you have a link to a bigger pic so I can get a better look? At least my quest for Randall merchandise might finally be satiated, even if it is with teen Randall. pitbulllady

Oh, I think that Randall is DEFINITELY going to be more than just a background character in this one! He never appeared AT ALL in the trailers for the original, so even the brief glimpses of him and his "swag" from this one trailer is a sign of hope, not to mention the early toy designs featuring his image that we've seen. I think that Pixar and Disney have finally opened their eyes...at least I HOPE they have-to just what a potential marketing bonanza this guy is if nothing else. I'm pretty sure that they know how popular he is, and it would be a mistake just to have him be a minor character with no real role, and not bother to explain how that rivalry between him and Mike and Sulley started. It wouldn't make sense to just show him as even just a neutral side character and not connect that with how he acted in MI.

I'm betting on Randall's deep-rooted need for acceptance and respect from his peers as being at the root of his downfall, too. While his haters don't want to believe it, THAT was the reason why he built the Scream Extractor in the first place. He wanted others to respect him. He wanted the approval of Waternoose(father figure?). It would be very easy to believe that a jock fraternity would take advantage of someone like this and use them for some ill-gotten purpose. They would recognize not only Randall's potential scaring talent, but his desperation to belong and be accepted...and his naivete in social situations. Maybe Mike started out to befriend him, then shut him out in order to be friends with Sulley, perhaps out of resentment that Randall got into the popular Scarer fraternity that Mike and Sulley got kicked out of, and Randall saw that as Mike "turning against him", a situation that the frat boys would be all too happy to exploit and blow out of proportion, using Randall as a tool to make Mike and Sulley look bad. Who wants to bet that those Scare Games will play a big role in that?
Back to Boo, though...while I'm skeptical that she will be in this movie at all(Scanlon has more or less said that she wouldn't unless he's planning to pull a real surprise on us), it would not surprise me if she turned out to be a little hellion at some point. She's already hyper and outgoing, and the lesson that she took away from her adventure in the Monster World is this: you can get what you want if you beat people up. Violence is the way to solve your problems. I imagine that she'll be one of those kids whose parents are going to be getting a lot of calls from the school principal, at least in her earlier years, before someone sets her straight that fighting does NOT solve problems at all!

Could it be Wazowski's failure as a Scarer is what coaxes Sullivan to brighten up? I mean it seems that we may not see development for him until late in the film. As per my Pixar Planet sig, it seems Randall may have actually helped Wazowski in studying (though I would imagine Randall would see it as flailing given Wazowski's...non-scary traits)...and IF Sullivan was sitting on the other side of Randall before getting up (I'd have to see), he might have been tutoring Sullivan as well. Certainly puts the "I'm not with you dorks"-esque display both on Wazowski AND Randall. Also, not 100% sure, but looked like Randall was squinting at whatever he was reading. Maybe he does need glasses and tries not to "pull them out"... It looked to me more like Randall was just showing his displeasure at Sulley acting like a d***. Randall's got that "I Do Not Approve" facial expression, but his hand gestures say, "WTF? How do I deal with THIS?" I DO get the impression, though, that Randall's eyesight is less than perfect. I can remember back when Avis The Crow was still around, and she specifically brought up how Randall apparently had a "lazy eye", and that does seem evident in that book-dump scene, which probably explains the need for glasses. I also would bet that Randall tries to go without them as much as he can get by, because he gets picked on when he wears them and they cramp his scaring style(kinda hard to "blend" while wearing those things). He's probably trying to lose his "nerd" image and be accepted by the popular crowd, and those glasses aren't going to help any at all with that. pitbulllady

That is what I'd hope will be the case, too, but I'm just not counting on it as of yet. I know that Pixar is famous for being secretive and withholding information until almost the last moment, but there's been no indication, no hint or anything, that Boo will be in MU. I would love for this to start out in the present, perhaps with the three major monster players finally sitting down to talk things out, maybe with Boo present, explaining "how it all began", how they met and how their animosities or friendships started, and the rest being the prequel part. It would be nice for the movie to emphasize that if Mike and Sulley could eventually become friends, it's not out of the question for them to bury their differences with Randall and vice versa, but we have not yet seen any indication of that happening. I DO agree, though, that Pixar has something major in store for our boy, a big part in MU, otherwise there's really no need to bring him into the picture and keep his role so much a secret. I really get the impression that they are deliberately doing this to build anticipation in his fans, and that they are very much aware of how popular Randall is, and I don't mean just as a "Disney villain", either. There is just going to be a lot of speculation between now and June, and probably a lot that we won't know until the official release in theaters unless someone "leaks" information beforehand. It is really hard to say exactly what will happen based on Pixar's trailers, since we all know how those tend to be misleading! The trailers for the original that I saw didn't show Randall at all, and made it seem as though this was just a CGI rip-off of the Nicktoon, "AHHHH! Real Monsters!", with a soundtrack by Aerosmith("Take Me to the Other Side" was the song played in the trailers), when none of that was true AT ALL! I'm not betting on Motley Crue's "Kick Start My Heart" actually being in MU, either, even though it's in the trailer!

Wazowski may not consider Randall a friend, but it's definitely said, at least at the start, he likes Randall's company better than Sullivan. And that's a good note, that there are MANY unoccupied chairs about, yet the two are seated together. Another thing to notice is that Randall's sitting in the middle of his seat, while Wazowski is more on the left, as in he's closer to Randall. What this could mean is that the two are indeed studying together, or that Randall is tutoring him on something (which would explain his annoyance that Sullivan ruined things) Considering how Sulley is acting in this movie from what we've seen.....I'd rather have pretty much anyone's company over his. Sulley would probably be a pain to share a room with. Ugh. Everything I've seen from Sulley in MU so far backs up what I've always thought about him-he's a slacker at heart, who has to have someone to really push him if he's gonna actually DO anything. Given a choice between working for a living and sitting in a bass boat in the middle of a lake somewhere, Sulley's gonna opt out for the latter. He's got family connections and feels privileged, feels that he's entitled to success simply because of whom he knows. He's a classic jock who doesn't think too kindly about intellectuals. That "drive-by" book drop says, "I'm don't need these things; I don't need this class; I'm already perfect; screw y'all little dorky nerds!" Now, I've often gone on about how Mike, in MI, is riding Sulley's coattails to success, BUT I also now get the impression that MIKE MADE Sulley into that successful Scarer, so it's mutual. Neither would have ever been anything without the other, whereas Randall had to accomplish everything he did alone, without help. pitbulllady

I actually saw a kid in the hallways today who had on a hoodie with that EXACT same pattern as Randall's luggage, a combination of plain fleur-de-lis and rows of fleur-de-lis surrounded by this sort of filigree circle(the bigger ones in the pattern), but the background was a sort of liver brown. When I asked, he said the hoodie came from Citi Trends and USED to be purple, but his dad washed it one day and put in bleach, not knowing that you DO NOT use bleach on dark colors(sounds like something a lot of men would do), so the color got messed up. I saw that pattern a LOT when I was in New Orleans, as it's pretty much "official" swag in the Big Easy. Maybe Randall had a fascination with that city, as I do, in spite of not being from there, which would kinda be ironic in a messed-up sorta way considering what happened to him. I'm wondering if maybe HE was the one who "turned on" Mike to jazz music, since we know that at least one of them, either Mike or Sulley, was a jazz fan in the original movie, based on all those jazz posters. One thing that's always struck me about Randall is that he marches to his own drummer, so to speak. He likes what he likes and doesn't follow trends, which has probably always made him an outsider. He'd be less likely to jump all over some form of very popular music just because everyone else liked it and more likely to stick with a genre that most of the younger monsters in college found "uncool" or odd.

You know, I took a closer look at the skateboards...Sullivan and Wazowski are on there...but so is big Al (my temp name for ROR Fraternity's leader, the purple guy)... AND there's Randall...BUT he's got that wicked grin of his we all know. He seems to be wearing the ROR jacket...and his glasses too. And yeah, he is grinning WIDE there... ...Maybe ROR brings him into the fraternity and they begin poisoning him, manipulating him to do some dirty work... I don't see anything "wicked" about that grin on Randall's face in either the toys, the PEZ dispenser we saw earlier, or the banner pic. It's just a big, wide, happy grin on the toy; reminds me of Wilt's grin in FHFIF, just the sort of smile that can light up a whole room. There is nothing in those eyes that speaks of anger or resentment, just hope and eagerness to learn. pitbulllady

As I predicted earlier...I think Randall will be the target of somebody, and I imagine it will be Roar Omega Roar (headed by that purple guy, and the one Sullivan seems to aim to join). His toy has him in their jacket...and Nerds proclaims "there shall be NO NERDS in a JOCK Fraternity!"....so if he gets in...it's only because they're planning to take him down, use him for something, or got him to do something drastic that had repercussions.... I think I've seen it in material related to the jewish...maybe at times during....a certain war. A sort of quick "get up and go" form of baggage at the time compared to the trunk.... And take a look at Wazowski, he's got a back pack, carry-on case...Randall's stuff seems...well it's in good condition but it's also an old way...a lock trunk and a cloth bag...so maybe it isn't richness...maybe he just keeps care of his stuff because he doesn't have much. Tehehe, I HAD the plan to hm hm. *folds arms* Though I like to think of myself as the olive-branch of the Randall community...but lets just say it'll be brought up if any trouble comes (which shouldn't for obvious reasons, AS STATED (tehe) here, if there is it's called for with this). fleur-de-leis is there?....wow...it is...that's...yes that is a surprise 0_0 I don't get the impression of "rich" from that trunk and that cloth travel bag, either. Those are things I associate with old, maybe heirlooms? But in any case a trunk and bag to hold all of one's earthly belongings, perhaps some connection to his family, a means of quickly escaping with said belongings. That trunk is more like a sea chest, the sort of thing you see pics of the people boarding the Titanic with, all those Irish immigrants hoping for a better life in America. Randall has a duffle bag, a trunk, a bed spread, three pillows, his slippers, a desk calendar and a poster...and apparently nothing else. Mike has his bed clothes, his hat, a LOT of posters and pennants, a rug, a modern backpack, a bunch of books and stuff on his desk, just a lot of stuff in general. Mike puts a lot of value on "stuff", while Randall likes to keep things simple and uncluttered and seems to put more value on tradition. Anyone wanna bet that Randall's "blending" skills were developed as a coping mechanism, a means of escaping when things got too unpleasant? I absolutely agree that his involvement with ROR is due to them using him, making him think that they are letting him in because they like him and think he's got the "right stuff", not so different from what Waternoose was doing to him in the original movie. pitbulllady

I don't get a "prissy" vibe so much as some kid who is such a nerd, so socially-challenged, that he has no clue what is and what is not "cool". He probably is perceived as a "weirdo", though, one of those misfits who is willing to do anything to be accepted by the "cool" kids, if for no other reason than to get people to stop picking on him, and you KNOW that he's going to be bully-bait here, not the bully! Even in the original, Randall's naivete and social awkwardness are still very much in evidence. In all honesty, he reminds me a lot of a couple of my students who have Asperger's. Could be all those pillows indicate he has asthma, as well, since asthmatics(like me)have to sleep on a lot of pillows to help alleviate breathing problems...which really makes thinking about what happened to Randall in MI just terrible.
Here in the US, carrying around your stuff in a cloth bag with a handle is just one step from "hoboing". It's how poor people used to travel, color-coordinated or not.
RB, you absolutely MUST post that "Evil does not come with cupcakes" pic on Pixar Planet!
OMG...just realized some foreshadowing...and I know where I've seen that purple-and-gold pattern! At least some of the gold designs are fleur-de-leis, and gold fleur-de-leis on a purple background are a symbol of New Orleans! I KNEW I'd seen that pattern somewhere!

Randy? Wow, Pixar haven't held back in terms of making MU Randall as different as possible to MI Randall. They'd better make his transformation convincing and not some sort of a strange parody. The toys look pretty cool. Love the little cardigan Randall is wearing on the left hand side one. The one on the right is just too stylised for my liking, but yes, PBL, the inclusion of nostrils is pretty interesting. Yeah, he's like 180 degrees from the angry, stressed-out, frustrated guy we saw in the original, and unless Pixar is going to try to show that he was always secretly "evil" or something(which they'd better NOT), is gonna mean they'll really have to pull off a convincing face-turn-heel. I can only imagine that whatever it was that set this innocent, happy-but-insecure little fella on the wrong path that culminated with his horrific fate in MI, it had to have been something awful. Thing is, if that is the case(and I definitely believe it is), Pixar had better fix that! It would just be horribly effed-up of them to show that Randall's later attitude was the result of someone doing something bad to him, and then having that same "someone"(*cough* James Sullivan *cough*) decide that he didn't like how Randall turned out and just getting rid of the problem when it came back to "bite" him, tossing away the result of HIS earlier actions like a piece of garbage. pitbulllady

That HAS to be Randall's side of the room- it's certainly not Sulley's! Randall has some very posh luggage in the bit where the bookshelves fall on Sulley- wow! Who knew he was quite so co-ordinated? Looks like you were right then, RB- they are roomies! Can't quite get over this... He's such a neat-freak; just after Sulley says, 'you don't have to study scaring, you just do it', Mike walks through the room and you can really see the difference between Randall's desk (empty aside from some sort of a calendar perhaps) and Mike's (covered with all sorts of rubbish). So this immediately says to me that Randall must have a pretty chunky part in the film: he's sharing a room with one of the main characters, so there must be some sort of a storyline concerning Mike and Randall running alongside the one with Mike and Sulley. Poor Randall is gonna have a coronary when he finds out that there was a PIG in his room! "Careful, he's a biter"! Already a great line and the movie isn't even out yet! pitbulllady

I've got to say that is is a surprise in some ways and totally expected in others. I've always had the impression that Randall was a neat-freak and a perfectionist....maybe not quite Adrian Monk-obsessive with the neatness and the perfection, but fairly close. The coordinating luggage and bed spread sorta caught me off-guard, though. Now, had I just seen the luggage, which in the US would appear homemade(possibly from flour sacks, which used to be printed in nice patterns on high-quality cotton cloth), that would have reinforced my impression of him having come from a rather simple, working-class and possibly rural Heartland American background, but here? He comes across as more well-to-do, a bit on the "artsy/intellectual" side, definitely not what college kids would consider "cool" or trendy. Mike has posters of famous Scarers, and Randall has artistic motivational posters. And you know those slippers were made for him by some dowdy old aunt or grandmother, and I never thought I'd see slippers that trumped Megamind's bat slippers, but these seriously do just that! Bet Randall sleeps in some equally-awesome jammies, too, like the ones he had on in the Disney comic! Pixar really does seem to be trying to portray him as 180 degrees opposite from how he came across in the original movie-awkward, insecure but friendly, brainy, probably artisticly-inclined(interesting how there's that connection with Boo, isn't it?), compulsively neat and orderly...probably the last monster on the planet that anyone would ever think of as a potential Scarer! Makes me all the more curious as to how everything went so terribly wrong for him, whether it was a wrong that never got "righted" or just some horrible misunderstanding that never got straightened out. I can see, though, how there could have been at least some initial conflict between him and Mike, as roomies, with Randall being the "Felix Unger" type and Mike being someone who'd see no need of a trash bin when you've got a perfectly good floor.
