I think I understand why Spyro seems to be a pain lately... Anyway. Disney's joined in on the "figures-to-game" band wagon with Disney Infinity. Granted I don't know too much about it...didn't really care.....until this: disney-infinity.wikia.com/wiki/Randall_BoggsRandall seems to be a PLAYABLE CHARACTER. That's right, there may be a figure of him out. For those unaccustomed..."figure=character IN game". Randall has only been playable, to my recollection, in the series only once, and that's in Scream Arena. I'm not sure of the articulation and unique qualities of the characters (though I HAVE seen Sullivan in action, and he can move, ride a bike, and use his roar). I know there was another Disney game that featured kids or something in COSTUMES (and yes, there was a Randall one) that had similar qualities, but no, not this time. This time we get the character(s) unchanged or flimsy. MU is a playable area of course...but this Randall figure seems to be his older self (THOUGH...I'm unsure if coding in the game changes his statistics to match his younger self at all on command OR if that option is only available in the MU world). Funny thought huh? Older Randall back in college heh. Anyway, what can I say...another chance to play Randall? Something to look into.

Although under the link above, Randall's also under the boss category....I'm thinking this is rather a personal choice under the page creator. I mean if your able to play Randall, and as he has a figure you can, then your not really the bad guy.

If a character is playable, YOU have control over that character's role, and you decide if you want to play them as a "good guy" or "bad guy", regardless of how they were portrayed in their respective movies. pitbulllady

Unless the game has a "Fixed mode". I had been playing a game called "Dragon Age: Orgins"...one of the special editions with all the extra stuff and one has you playing the "bad guys" from a point near the beginning of the game. And your task IS to kill the good guys (I'm pretty sure, haven't played it yet, but glances show yes. Heck you can even kill your underlings to get new ones)
But, as per Wikipedia, there seem to be two modes here: Play Set and Toy Box Their "portal" (like with Skylanders), where you put the figure on to "scan it" into the game...has two slots (is this for two players? Or is it for a v.s. thing? (as in, if you play alone the computer takes over the other one as your opponent?)...and a slot for a "world disc" (which I suppose is for areas like MU or....whatever other ones there are).
Play Set is like most games. A set-game with a plot and objectives. Apparently they WILL be based on the film/series...but how this plays out would be curious. I mean with Sullivan and Wazowski, it's obvious since they go through most of the story. But what if you play this with Randall? Considering....that there seem to be (so far) three figures for MU at least...will Disney be designing to the point that EACH ONE has their OWN storyline in this mode?
Toy Box seems to be a free-for-all sandbox. So everybody's invited...so I guess it's mainly exploration with some gimmicks.

www.disneyinfinityfans.com/images/screenshots/screenshots_full/disney_infinity_toy_box_screenshot_08_full.jpgCan you spot a "certain somebody" in here? Hehehe. Anyway, for those who don't know, it's practically confirmed that Randall's a playable character in Infinite. Now at first I was debating if this was "playable Randall" OR "Playset Randall" (the later being an NPC that either gave quests or was an obstacle). BUT considering the array of characters OUTSIDE the MU/MI verse...this pic is of toy box mode (...yeah it's...also with the file name *cough). Now it SEEMS it's him when he's older...though whether that means he's still got a "playset type" (his younger self) in the story-mode for Mu or not is still unconfirmed. (though imagine...if that NPC is in toy box mode...Young Randall and Old(er) Randall meeting 0_0

Isn't Randall supposed to be one of the bosses? Now, I'm not that game-savvy, as you know, but isn't a "boss" of a level or realm or whatever the antagonist, the one who is up against the playable character? There's a whole wiki about this game, though I have to keep in mind that ANYONE can make a wiki and put ANYTHING on it, so I have to wonder if that is official or if the person who made it just assumed that the "bad guys" from the movies would be the "bad guys" in the game, too, since that site lists Randall(supposedly in his MU younger form), Syndrome, that dead guy from POTC, and even the Omnidroid as "bosses", but I got suspicious of how legit it was when the person didn't even list "Buddy Pine" as one of Syndrome's aliases, in spite of that being his REAL name, but listed "the Sitter"(as in Baby Sitter)instead! If a character is "playable", does that mean that you control them and can play them anyway you wish, good or bad? The Randall here looks young, note the shorter fronds, so maybe there's not going to be an older version in the game.

*rubs temple* Dang horizontal long posts, remind me to put in a link rather than a pic.... Anyway... first, bosses.
Umm...if you saw my "Randall...The Wizard!" post...Randall's been a boss in the GBA version of the game...sorta-bossish in the Scare Island (though he was a trainer)...but for the most part the GBA version is the only one you "fight" him. I'm not 100% sure on how they're working bosses in...if they're taking pages from Skylanders....I'm still unsure. Have the game, just haven't...tried it out yet....
My guess is that it was an assumption. Still, there is a difference. Which goes along with your character question. There's "Playset" and "Toy Box" mode. Playset seems to stick to characters JUST in the universe (MU characters for MU for example)...however....as it's known you can play Sullivan and Wazowski...I'm unsure if you can play as Randall in the Playset...he IS technically part of the universe and a main character...but I don't know how it works to be honest.
As for Toy Box mode you can bring in whomever you want as a free-for-all so yeah you can practically control what you want to do I imagine. I don't think the pic is an HD version so...it's still a gamble as to what this Randall is. His FIGURE seems to be his older self (no glasses too)...so that's generally what appears in-game. And since this is sandbox mode, would seem to be the case. ================================================= Ok a little MU Infinity heads up that I may have forgotten. There WAS a sneak peek of it...now I don't remember if it was Sandbox or playset...but considering that the person was placing Sullivan and Wazowski was there...and interacting with NPCs and no outsiders (from other verses), I'm inclined to believe it was a Playset. In it, the main task is MU's prank war with Fear Tech. So essentially it's sort of a...competition, where you have to protect your own base while at the same time pranking the other side. Not sure if you can play as Randall in this....BUT...if it's Fear Tech versus MU....Randall is DEFINITELY on the good side, because he's NOT with Fear Tech.

www.pixarpost.com/2013/03/disney-infinity-video-play-set-overview.htmlAn interesting tibit here. How Randall got some special attention (along with the screenshot I've shown here) and all. But another interesting thing, is that indicated in the box at the bottom with the screenshot says that: "Randall as seen in the background of a screen capture - he is also featured on a power disc." And here you are: www.disneyinfinitycharacters.com/disney-infinity-power-discs/"The purpose of the Disney Infinity Power Discs is to provide either added abilities or items to the player while in the Toy Box mode or while playing in a Play Set, depending on which type of Power Disc is selected. Some of the rarest Disney Infinity collectibles are expected to come in the form of Power Discs given their shared design between discs." So what this means is that Randall is apparently on one of these discs (who knows, maybe he's a rare power disc 0_0) that give an ability or item. Considering this MAY not be specific FOR the character, who knows what his power disc does. (Who knows, maybe the power disc gives him his glasses ^0^ Extra Intelligence boost ^0^ ^0^) But this means that not only will Randall be playable, he's got his own power discs to give abilities and items, which means we may be able to do more with him than we thought.

This is sounding better and better, insofar as Randall's role as at least a "not-so-bad-guy". It really wouldn't make sense to use him in a negative role in the MU Universe, since it does not appear that he's a "bad guy" or even main antagonist in the actual movie, and if Fear Tech is in Infinity(and we know that Randall isn't a student at Fear Tech), then they're apparently going to take the role of antagonists. For the most part, though, everything I've read is mostly focusing on the MU character playing pranks on each other, not actually fighting, at least in "their" Universe. I guess in the Playset mode you use them however you wanted, so if someone wanted to say, have Randall play the "heavy", they could do that in this realm, right? I just think it's really neat that his presence has generated so much interest, which goes to show just how popular he is.

As said, I'm unsure from the preview I looked at is the Toy Box or Story mode... BUT considering the characters in it were Sullivan and Wazowski and I didn't see any others from any other "universe"...safe to say it may be story mode. Which means that, yes, the main antagonists may be Fear Tech, that the rivalry between them and MU is the center. Which means...it's partly original. And YES, if that's the case, Randall is definitely on MU's side and a protagonist.
The heavy? 0_0 Know I've heard the term before but... Considering he IS part of the MU universe, has his own power discs...while anybody can go into toybox mode, considering he IS a main character, he may get his own background in Playset mode after all. Imagine THAT...Randall pranking hehehe. Well considering that was his "introduction" in MI...oh man...it's going to be fun seeing (and playing) Randall going around MU and Fear Tech pulling pranks ^0^
Considering he WAS once ON the package (for what I guess WAS these power discs), and was later pulled. My guess is that he wasn't suppose to be revealed yet, that he was going to be kept back. Which means his popularity is probably a deciding factor in him making the cut.

Gah, what is WITH this long horizontal reading mode? Anyone else seeing this? Anyway, "the heavy" is old Hollywood scriptwriter slang for the main antagonist or the "bad guy".

Yeah...my guess is the pic I put...you know what, I'll just put in the link that'll fix it hopefully. One moment... There we go all better!
Ahh ok. Heavy is also a character term (from what I saw) that goes to "slow but powerful" characters in class-games. Well Toybox mode is for anyone (from any universe)...Toyset mode is the characters from the same universe. So...Toybox you can do what you want I imagine...Toyset, though, seems to focus on JUST that universe and it's plot. So I imagine Toybox is a sort of "party mode", there's no real bad/good guy thing going on. As for Toyset, I'm unsure, since Randall CAN be playable. Considering that he completes the "Trio" and the main plot seems to be the rivalry with Fear Tech, it seems he's in a protagonist role.

Another few interesting tibits in relation for how Randall might play...
A lot of "activates" around campus (such as interactive moments, scareing students, starting a mechanic, etc.) was shown to be started from Sullivan's roar, as in, his scareing. BUT...it's noted on the Infinity Wiki that Wazowski activates stuff by luck rather than scareing (which makes sense, as he's not scarey). What this could mean for Randall....is that maybe each character DOES have abilities and the like that make them unique. While that seems obvious, what I mean is that it applys to more than what you can do... For instance, maybe Randall can reach areas by way of his wall climbing that Sullivan and Wazowski can't. OR that he's better at being stealthy in areas of the Fear Tech pranking than they are. This makes sense after all if you think in game terms. Sullivan's got the brawn and endurance, Wazowski's...uhh...dumb luck, and Randall's got speed and stealth. So, playing Randall may not just be a personal pleasure, he'll probably be able to do things the others can't.
Then there's "mounts". in the preview I saw, Sullivan was actually on a bike. And, Wazowski has Archie (which makes me wonder more if my first thought on him being MU's mascot is true). SO...does that mean Randall has one? Ok sure, he's faster than both of them for sure on his own, still, food for thought.
(Also, the Abominable Snowman is remarked to be an "expansion character". But...something's wrong with the pick. Seems he has ONE eye, like a cyclops, but we KNOW he has two...)

Now we get to see our boy move a little. www.youtube.com/watch?v=vv4ELZcplvINote he's in line with the Disney HEROES. 0:12 You can see him between Dash and Buzz. 0:17 Better look at him moving here. 0:47 Apparently.....you can FIGHT in this game. I don't recognize the creature Davey Jones is facing. Is he a character-character or is it a generic Infinity character enemy? (as in a "grunt" enemy you face that has to deal with the backstory) OK....this is getting more interesting. Maybe we'll get to see Randall pull out some of his kung-fu ^0^ (Lizard-fu?)

Oh here's another interesting tibit. I was looking around Gamestop (for Resident Evil 5 actually) and saw Disney Infinity Starter Pack pre-orders. Now, not pre-ordering myself until I know how things with Randall are (as well as his personal Power Discs), and it's still months off, till my funding gets better...but... A cool bit is that, if the figure wasn't enough, Monsters University IS in the starter pack, so you don't have to buy the MU world separate, you can just get it in the starter and not worry about it. Gamestop's got a great pre-order bonus though...you get a power disc pack AND a figure of YOUR CHOICE. (and granted how much those figures are going for...that's great in itself). But...with that...guess which one I'll be getting hehehe.
But anyway, Pitbulllady might be the one to find this more interesting. Remember Mirage from the Incredibles? Well...I saw in the crowd on an Infinity link on the site. Now, granted that Gibbs is also there (from Pirates), she may just be a side/quest character...but...if Infinity gets big...who knows...maybe she'll become playable and we get the answer to a question we pondered way back. Is she a Super?
