... Weeeeellll, sorta. XD Actually, I was studying an article for one of my classes -- cultural anthropology, to be exact -- in preparation for a mid-term. Then, lo and behold, I stumbled across THIS passage: "If the power of a stage name to characterize personality seems of relatively minor consequence in human affairs, consider the effect of a different sort of appellation: 'boy.' It was -- and sometimes still is -- the form of address employed by whites in the American South in speaking to black males of any age. This word, many authorities believe, served as an instrument of subjugation. It implied that the black was not a man but a child, someone not mature enough to be entrusted with responsibility for himself, let alone authority over others. His inferior position was thus made to seem natural and justified, and it could be enforced without compunction."This immediately reminded me of a discussion we had on the original Boggs' Board, during one of the times when we were talking about how "Lizard Boy" might actually be a derogatory term. I think Pitbulllady had mentioned something then along the lines of what was stated in the above article -- which, together, seem to further legitimize even more our suspicions about "Lizard Boy" being a racial insult directed at lizard monsters like Randall. There was one more bit in the article right after that one, actually, that I thought was also interesting. I'll just post it here for now, so that you guys can make of it what you can. "Characterizing people by tagging them with a word label is a world-wide practice. Many peoples use a single word to designate both themselves and the human race. 'The Carib Indians, for example, have stated with no equivocation, "We alone are people,"' reported anthropologist Jack Conrad. 'Similarly, the ancient Egyptians used the word romet (men) only among themselves and in no case for strangers. The Lapps of Scandinavia reserve the term "human being" for those of their own kind, while the Cherokee Indians call themselves Ani-Yunwiya , which means "principal people." The Kiowa Indians of the Southwest are willing to accept other peoples as human, but the very name, Kiowa , meaning "real people," shows their true feeling.' The effect of reserving a term indicating 'human' to one group is far-reaching. It alters the perception of anyone from outside that group. He is not called 'human,' and need not be treated as human. Like an animal, he can be entrapped, beaten, or even killed with more or less impunity."So...your thoughts? ~Light Rises

Whoa...I never noticed that before (probably because I've only slo-moed one scene from M.I. thus far, lol)! It's kind of funny, too, because I also have a "lazy" eye. *points to her left eye* It used to be much worse when I was little, and I even had to wear the dreaded eye patch in hopes of strengthening it. The problem's no longer noticable now, thank goodness, although my folks say that when I get REALLY tired, my left eye will still start drifting outward. So I think I'll vouch for the theory that the slowness of Randall's "game eye" probably had to do with exhaustion.
The sandwich thing? Eh, kinda OT, but what the hey -- I be a roast beef sandwich with horseradish sauce.;D
Mmmm...horseradish...*drools*

I've had some dreams with Randall in them, myself. One was sorta like I was watching some sort of MI sequal in progress. I don't remember all the details, but I do remember being somewhere that looked like Randall's lab (lit up much more - it was brighter) and Randall came out from behind some pipes, along with Sulley and the gang. Randall was in a karate stance and it seemed that they were now all on the same side. The camera turned to see what they were looking at and I never actually saw the actual "villian", because it stayed in the dark shadows for a second and then was gone. All you could see were evil eyes. Heh. Yeah, weird. It was sorta like I was watching it on a TV screen. Then I remember waking up and wondering if I had watched MI too many times that day. LOL. It was premiering on Disney, so I watched it every time it was replayed because there wasn't much else to watch. But at least my silly subconscious mind put Randall on the right side. I also had another Rand dream more recently. This one was much wierder (perhaps it's because I've been reading Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, working on my crossover, and compiling ideas for another fic, lol), but anyhow, I remember being on the planet Canis Lunis. It sorta looked like Zurg had built a big fortress nearby. Suddenly, Ty and Randall came over to me and said I should hide. Lol, and all I could think of to say was 'Randall, boy, you look taller.' O.o Stroke of genius on my part. lol. So, they had to drag me into some bushes to get me hidden. Then something like those huge scrap collectors/shredders from Robots went past with petunias driving them (LOL. I blame HGttG for that). Okay, now that was odd. Even stranger still, we got out of the bushes and suddenly found ourselves inside the compound. We heard someone coming and hid behind the corner. Randall urged me to be quiet, so I peered around the corner to see Lladnar (Randall's evil clone). Then, of course, just to make my dream wierder there was a second Ty as well, Evil Ty, I knew (yes, he's my own creation - sorta - in the series there's actually an "Alternate Dimension" where everyone's evil or good, depending on what they are in the normal dimension. . . i.e. Buzz's evil clone has taken over the alternate universe while Zurg's good clone works at a fast food joint). Okay, it's sorta freaky to see your own creations face-to-face in your dreams. But, anyhow, they found us and the evil clones grabbed me and decided it would be fun to jettison me into space. LOL. Then, to make things really hilarious, Ty and Randall were sitting there fighting over who was going to get to save me! Then I woke up. Yeah. Weird. Lol. Oy vey...if only I could remember HALF as many details from my own dreams, LOL! Let's see...I've had at least three Randall-related dreams that I'm sure I've had, only two of which I can remember any specific details from. I had the first one months ago, and it involved a kinda-sorta-Randall-look-alike in a soccer uniform who was readying for a match I was attending. I don't even LIKE soccer all that much, so how that got into the mix with Randall (or at least lizard monsters in general), I haven't the faintest. XD The other one was more recent -- from a few days ago, actually -- in which Randall and some female lizard monster counterpart (perhaps a bit of underlying wish fulfillment going on there, lol) kept escaping night after night from this biodome-type building. Weird thing was, that the biodome seemed so imposing and huge whenever my mind's eye did a close-up on it during the dream's daylight hours. And then when night fell, my mind's eye would pull back and show Randall and his companion cracking open the biodome's lid as if the building were only the size of a backyard pool, with the two monsters pretty easily stepping out of it and then fleeing into the night, Randall leading his friend by the hand (in a sorta romantic kind of way...yeah). So...yeah. Some very random stuff going on in my dream life, as you can see. XD ~Light Rises

*pouts* Not me, I'm afraid -- just regular ol' brown eyes. But -- BUT -- my dad does have hazel-green eyes, so it's possible that I have that recessive gene from his side and could pass it on, provided I marry someone with green or hazel eyes, or at least someone who has that recessive gene, too. *crosses fingers again*

Another explanation could be that, since the sound of chimes tends to be so soft, that they can't be easily heard in the movie without having headphones on and then enhancing the music over the dialogue and sound effects somehow. But there's definitely music on the M.I. soundtrack that never made it into the final film, like the last instrumental track (which I think is entitled "Boo"). It's supposed to apply to the very end of the movie, and I think this version is much prettier than the one that was actually used.

I've got the soundtrack on CD, and I think I know what you're talking about, Sean. I've heard that sound on that particular track, too -- sorta like wind chimes, if I'm not mistaken. And I've never heard that sound associated directly with "evil"; more like, as you said, with "mystery" and "magic." So I believe you're right on that point. *nods*

Yeah, I mean, he seems as though he's been through a lot already for someone of his age, yet isn't completely familiar with things when it comes to corrupt corporations, etc. I don't think he's REALLY emotionally-developed, either- it seems easy enough for him to show his anger, but other emotions look harder for him, not only because of what was happening during the film, but because of his experiances previously. Pretty much my thoughts, too. *nods* And I completely agree that Randall's intelligence is MUCH more of the practical type than Fungus'. Fungus might be good for the nitty-gritty little details that have to be addressed, but he'd probably never be able to finish anything if just left to his own devices. ~Light Rises

And meanwhile Mike goes around calling Sulley things like "big jerk" and making fun of his weight/size, ALL the time, and Sulley just puts up with it. That's what makes it so bad when people rag on how Randall treats Fungus, how "mean" he was to threaten to put him through the shredder and stuff, but ignore how badly MIKE treats his best friend and protector! pitbulllady A bit of double-standard going on there, huh? And while some people might justify it by saying that Mike never really meant what he said in regards to Sulley (which is just further demonstrative of his immaturity and inability to communicate civilly on a consistent basis -- only being able to pull it off when it REALLY matters, apparently), it still doesn't prove how Randall treated Fungus any worse. If people are stressed out, angry, or even annoyed enough, it's not uncommon for them to think or say, "I'm gonna KILL so-and-so!" but then never actually go through with it. They ultimately didn't mean what they said, so how does that make Randall any different, especially considering his circumstances? ~Light Rises

It's kinda funny, in an odd sorta way, that of the three animated guys I find attractive, only one of 'em is human! Never would have figured I'd end up like this, if someone had told me this say, 15 years ago. pitbulllady Lol. Yeah, sometimes I feel like that, too. A couple years back, I NEVER would've thought I could have a crush on an animated male, non-human character, even if he was a fave of mine. But then, of course, Randall had to come along and ruin it, lol! It took me awhile, too, to accept the fact that I found him attractive, but I've come to terms with that and am quite happy for it. ;D And yeah, I wouldn't want to see Randall change, either. The way he looks in the film is just WAY too much a part of his appeal and allure to be altered like that. ~Light Rises
