Am I the only one who thinks these ads are a bit too much? What's next? A MU diaper commercial? Duh! Now THAT would be funny. Especially if they picked RANDALL for that one (he IS the youngest after all!) ;D After all, where would it GO? (for the answer, last set of legs ^0-) "For your little monster" tehehehe. --------------- Ok, unfortunately I could NOT see the dang thing -_- BUT! Searched and found it. Back in a flash! Ok FIRST off, have to mention something. The scene with him in the ROR group. We see a bit MORE of this, with Johnny slapping Chet. Focus on Randall in this split second,. RIGHT BEFORE Johnny goes to slap Chet, Randall's eyes look down. In that one frame, he actually looks very depressed. Almost as if it's two things... 1. He was going to say something, but clammed up, and realized a moment later that it was the wrong decision. 2. He's ABOUT to say something, waiting for Chet to finish (such a polite guy to wait huh?), but Johnny's display stopped him. Once Johnny DOES do it, Randall looks up at him. Mouth still closed. I don't know what it is...fear...uncertainty? Or is it that this small display of violence is showing Randall that ROR isn't where he belongs? Is he worried he'd be on the end of JOHNNY's wrath if he screws up? Well...there's ONE more frame left to that. And it's the split-second transition to the next bit with Sullivan. Randall is scene on the right, barely, but what IS seen is his right eye. It is, from what I can tell, wide and alert. And from the angle, his attention fully went to Chet. Is it out of concern perhaps? After all, I think Chet is the least talented of the group for some reason...and also quite a blabber mouth. But yeah, I went a bit more frame by frame, and yes, Randall's eyes DEFINITELY go wider when Johnny hits Chet. Seems our little lizard is getting introduced to the harsher side of the ROR leader. Which makes sense...Johnny despises weakness and poor performance...and is not a holder to displaying his distaste for it. Unfortunately for Randall...what he may be fearing from Johnny comes true. ========= Ok now the new stuff. Funny how they still said Sullivan was the first roommate when Wazowski is putting up posters OH MAN...it is SO nice....so nice to see Randall helping somebody out...a smile on his face, the feeling of enthusiasm in his voice.... (bleep!) (bleep!) ....WHY did crap have to happen to him?

Or fate maybe. Or destiny. Whatever you call it, Randall's a good example of a good person in a bad bad world.

Randall's reaction to Johnny head-slapping Chet is definitely one of both shock and fear. I think it's a pretty fair assessment that he either has, or WILL, be on the receiving end of that physical abuse at some point. He's like a whipped dog, afraid to run away and afraid to fight back.
Have you read the excerpts from the Jr. Novelization posted on Tumblr? ROR uses Randall's blending ability for their amusement, referring to it as a "that trick" and making him do that for laughs, even though he's clearly uneasy with that situation.

Who knows what Randall went through. Though here's one thing that isn't shown. Randall's intiation and pledge period. What if, to stay in ROR...one of the requirements was to NOT support Wazowski anymore? A scare reject. That associating with him would leave ROR to judge if he was worthy.
I...ahem. Have the novelization actually. But due to circumstances...I'm...unsure to put up anything. Yes.....here's the one from my notes: ---- Now HERE'S the interesting bit.... "Boggs!" Johnny turned to Randy with a chuckle. "Do the trick!" With a pained smile, Randy made himself disappear. The RORs burst out laughing. Now this little paragraph says a LOT...and not only that, but two opposing things. The first part about the "trick"...ok Pitbulllady...it's exactly like your...dog comment. Anyway, seems Randall is AWARE that he is being ORDERED to use his ability, but forces a smile because he's popular. (Something to note, he's activating it himself, which means that it seems he's gaining control of his ability). But anyway, this clearly shows that Johnny is, in fact, manipulating Randall. Now the burst out laughing...who knows. Is it laughing toward Wazowski, that they now have his friend? Or, more likely, is it laughing at RANDALL? (after all his jacket would be remaining). There's a lot to be said for this.

There's a lot to be said for this. I believe they are laughing AT Randall. They KNOW he's not like them, and doesn't really fit in with their image, but recruiting him is both a way to hurt Mike and rub Sulley's departure in HIS face, by replacing him with a "nobody". I also think that they chose Randall as their own source of entertainment, the way bullies do sometimes pretend to be friends with the "nerd" kids so that they can make examples of them. Randall's "forced" smile is due to the fact that he's not comfortable with this whole situation and probably realizes, on some level, that he's being taken advantage of, but he doesn't want to "rock the boat" and risk losing what few social "gains" he thinks he's made by joining ROR, tempered with perhaps a bit of fear. I can't help again, but to think of Wilt here, with his nervous laugh and smile, going along with whatever is asked of him because he does not want to disappoint anyone else. Something else notable here: Johnnie refers to Randall by his LAST name. If you recall, in MI, Randall calls everyone ELSE by their last names, so it seems that this was the start of Randall emotionally distancing himself from others. pitbulllady

Yes...the poor idiotic sap who tries to fit into a group and takes crap that is obviously (without much pause for thought) not good for them... Poor little guy...
I was unsure if Randall called Wazowski "Mike" in MU or not, since we never got lines. But considering he IS doing that in the novelization, that seems true.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Y5w3IZiwj8Ok...Squishy's mom has some moves.........but where's the soccer one?! Anyway heheh, doesn't anybody think a certain somebody would match her in hacky sack? Seriously, we've seen the guy handle a pinball ball (and that's got some weight to it) like a pro.

Ok, no Randy here...but we DO see the one that manipulated him, Johnny, a bit more. It's not a trailer per-say, it's a clip, so no cuts. No spoilers (at least to US) I don't think but...anywhere...here's the smooth-talking *bleep*... www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-fyVGPnteI

Don't get me wrong, he's a bit of a douche, but his smooth-talking ways are very appealing. Plus he clearly has an ambitious streak. Think he's going to be an interesting character!

Johnny's probably...charismatic, but also controlling. He DOES talk smooth and acts appealing....but so did Waternoose, and we know who he really was like. We do know he easily tosses people aside when they don't meet his expectations...

We do know he easily tosses people aside when they don't meet his expectations... Oh don't get me wrong, he's definitely a manipulative guy and not someone you'd want to cross. In fact, he and Waternoose have a lot in common in that sense- manipulating weak people, family prestige...But as much as I don't like either of their actions (at least in terms of what we know so far about what Johnny does to Randall) they're worth being empathised with to a certain extent; it must be difficult having so much history of success in your family, to the point where you're not only encouraged to do well, but expected to, and spending all your life trying to live up to those expectations can really change someone. It's probably why Johnny (and Sulley, at first, considering his family background) are so arrogant at university- they have to be, because if everyone else is convinced that they'll be successful then it makes life a lot easier. There's no room for self-doubt in that sort of a situation, and that's why both Johnny and Waternoose are willing to discard someone (a certain someone, in fact) if they end up 'dragging them down', so to speak. Not that I condone their actions, but I just think it's interesting how something that is supposed to be positive- family prestige- can have quite a negative impact on someone.

I think the BIG tip off from the start is he's a "third", just like Waternoose 0_0 Well that's true I suppose...
*folds arms* Guess it's because I know Randall that it doesn't really give an excuse. If your aware of troubles, if you have your own self-doubt and what not, you shouldn't take it out on other people, especially somebody who may have a chance to be happy.
