Uhh pistol, I put that link in earlier 0_0
Anyway...Wazowski, at this point in his life, was at least a studier...so he was at least book-smart (APPARENTLY...ask me to judge that from how he is later in life, and I would not get that at all). But a think to remember is, Wazowski was dangerously obsessed, so that fueled his education.
Randall's smart (smarter than Wazowski)...but he's not obsessed. He wants to be a scarer, yes, but because of his lack of upbringing, he's shy, unsure, and not as confident. Plus, unlike Wazowski, he's trying to blend in and make friends. In fact, Randall's life style choice at the time is BETTER than Wazowski's AND Sullivan's. He's not a slacker, he's very intelligent, but he's not going to be working 24/7 because he wants to pursue making friends and enjoying life.
Unfortunately we all know that made him an easy target for Johnny and his crew.
But yeah, seeing Randall like this, helping out a friend, is just...well it's like Hallmark moment people, lets put it as that.

Also PBL, don't think this is from an advanced screening. As I said before, this was recorded off a television set. And I think the Pixar building has a screening theatre for the 40 minute one...kind of weird having a bunch of college students huddled around the set. Plus, there's DEFINITELY more than 4secs of Randall in the film, and the cut to Wazowski and his ID shows that this is either a TVspot or Trailer...that we haven't seen.
Apparently the poster says they got it from Disney Channel.... So Disney IS hogging some material for their personal channels.

I was also thinking that the screen in this clip doesn't look like the screen from a movie theater. It makes sense that it would be from an ad on the Disney channel.

Ok, guy put up another one. This time it's a "Got Milk" ad. Ok, so these are definitely on television, on Disney channel or kid-related channels. So yep, these are tv spots...surprised nobody has posted a full-one yet...

Ok, I JUST saw (seconds ago) a commercial for that Swiper Wipe...thing...that sorta mop-thing or.... ANYWAY....it feature MU! That's right...products are apparently being endorsed by MU now. Randall wasn't in it (PUT HIM IN SOME!), just the OK brotherhood and some blue guys from that football tv spot.

Am I the only one who thinks these ads are a bit too much? What's next? A MU diaper commercial? Duh!

Someone on Tumblr has posted a link to the full TV spot that includes the scene with Randy testing Mike on phobias: www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=gZHj5ON85DQThere's a fair bit of other new footage as well (I guess Mike has a part-time job whilst at college? Though clearly he's not very good, haha) and the more I see, the more I like. However, the best bit is obviously..."Fear of SPIders! Fear of THUNder!" SQUEEEEE. Steve seems to have done a great job with making Randall sound younger (but still himself) in MU!

I saw it on Tumblr. Randall's smile is just so sweet and warm. It's obvious that he really looks up to Mike, who possibly was the first friend he had ever had in his life. It makes it easier to understand, now, that Randall would have felt that Sulley "stole" away his only real friend, and that Mike "turned on him", although many people on Tumblr and DA have theorized that THEY became angry at RANDALL because of something HE does in MU. There are also some spoilers from the Jr. novelization on Tumblr, now, as well, that really give insight as to how ROR was using Randall and basically treating him as their butt-monkey, a source of their amusement.
Seriously, "tragic as f**k" is an understatement to describe Randall story.
