I guess it's my turn to sit in the "B****in', Moanin' and Groanin' Chair" now.
My plans to attend a big reptile show on my birthday have totally fallen through, due largely to the complete lack of monetary units in my possession, which is due in no small part to me having had to pay my homeowner's insurance(RIP-OFF; nearly six-hundred per year now)this past Monday. Normally, I can count on my father to give me a bit of spending cash a few days before my actual birthday, but this year? Uh-uh, nope, ain't happening. In fact, he took off for a weekend at Myrtle Beach with my sister, her husband and two-year-old daughter, without so much as wishing me a happy birthday. No card, no phone call, nothing. So my big day will be spent at home, doing nothing, seeing no one, loads of fun. One of the things that sucks the most about getting old is when people stop taking notice of your birthday; they figure that as long as they don't see your name in the obituary column, everything is cool.

Jeez. *shakes head* Well, in any case, I also wish you a happy birthday (birthdays shouldn't have to stop being something special once you get older, but that's just my warped opinion). You're very close to my older sister's birthday (which is August 4), so that'll hopefully remind me for now on of just when YOUR birthday falls (I can be awful when it comes to remembering birthday, anniversary, etc. dates). Hmm...lemme see if I can come up with a little something for you during the 5-hour flight later today. It might not be spending cash or the reptile show, but I hope it'll at least cheer things up somewhat. ~Light Rises

Well, I wish you a happy birthday anyway- I agree with Light Rises that birthdays are still special no matter how old you are. Hey, maybe your father will have a surprise for you when he returns, huh?

I think you need a hug, Pitbulllady. *hugs* Happy birthday anyway. You never know; perhaps your father will realize that he forgot your birthday and send you something extra-special to make up for it?

Geez. . .I'm so sorry to hear that. But I can understand that you'd be really upset about it. If something like that happened on my birthday, I think I'd have a right to complain too. But, hey, maybe your father will come back with something for you. But whatever happens, I still made a little something that - hopefully - will cheer you up at least somewhat. You may not be able to go to the reptile show, but I can bring some reptiles to you (sorta, heh). I made you two birthday cards! You won't find these photos anywhere, because I personally took them awhile back (with you in mind, actually). I just never got around to posting any. . . This guy doesn't look thrilled, but trust me, he's estatic. lol. A biiiiiiig alligator smile - just for you. Anyways, a very Happy Birthday to you, pitbulllady! We love ya here. *hugs*

Thank you, Joy! That made my day. That Water Monitor looks like the one I used to have, the one who ate Pit Bulls. They look so lazy and laid-back, it's hard to imagine that they can just explode into action like they do. I appreciate it, I really do!

Well, I DID make it to the show, even if it was a day late. A friend of mine(the guy I guy rats and mice from)called up and said he needed someone to help work his booth there at the show, and he offered to pay for my gas there and back and throw in some free snake food, so I couldn't turn it down! He's not much of a salesperson-very nice guy, but couldn't sell heaters to Alaskan Inuit(in his own words), and I' m a really good salesperson, so I've been there all day. Got some great deals on some supplies like UVB-heat bulbs for my Bearded Dragon, a free tarantula(an unknown species of "Pinktoe", but not the usual Avicularia avicularia-this one is reddish-brown, possibly Avicularia bicegoi), a free Redbellied Watersnake and yet-another big Coachwhip, which sat in my lap or hung out around my neck most of the day, being a great "PR" snake for his kind. It was quite funny to see how many of the dealers and regular reptile people, many of whom keep some really deadly venomous species, were actually afraid of this Coachwhip, and couldn't believe I'd just handle him like a Corn Snake, or that he wasn't trying to eat my face off! On the way home, about five miles from my house, I nearly ran over a huge Ratsnake which was trying to impersonate a speed bump in the middle of the highway, and had to stop and pick him up. He had a lot of ticks on him when I got him home, so I had to spend nearly an hour picking the little vampires off and out from under his scales, with him not being very cooperative at all. I quit counting ticks after around 30 and just dropped 'em in a jar of rubbing alchohol. I only got nailed three times while removing them; I'm just glad he's a Ratsnake and not a Tree Boa! So, things sorta worked out, though I did miss out on some snakes that were there on Saturday and were already sold by the time I got there today.

Yeah, it's good to be able to hang out with people who don't think I'm completely nuts for liking snakes and things like that, since they're all into the same things. A lot of reptile enthusiasts are totally creeped out by spiders, though, which is sorta funny. There's this one dude, who specializes in breeding Australian snakes, which are of course the deadliest on earth, who will totally scream like a little girl if ANYTHING with more than four legs gets near him, which is pretty funny to see! It's a good thing he wasn't there this weekend, since there was a four-year-old kid walking around with an Emperor scorpion crawling around on his arm, and that guy would probably have knocked over a Taipan cage if that kid had come near him with it!

I'm glad you got to go (and scored some critters as well as snake food)! And helped out your friend, sounds like he needed it. I bought Duchess over 100 bucks worth if stuff at the Sac show but I dunno if she likes any of it. I got her a new cave thing, might be a tad too big - I know balls like small hidey-holes - but it's *nice*, and I finally picked her up a piece of driftwood - again, its a little big and barely fits in there. I guess I went overboard. I also scored a bag of thirty frozen mice and spent a while yesterday transferring them all into individual baggies. Um...poryphorin or whatever its called is sticky. There weren't many tarantulas at the show - I'd decided not to get one just now but I missed being able to see lots. Anyways I brought my camera and I'll post pics this week.
