What accent would I like to have? Oh, gee...I'm not really all that sure. Maybe...an Irish accent? Or some form of British accent? Or perhaps Australian? Arrrgh... *has no idea* For someone who's fascinated with linguistics as I am, you'd think I'd have a better idea, huh? Well, I do know what sort of accent I DON'T want to pick up: "Hel-lo! I'm from MEEN-nee-SOO-tah!" (and yes, people from there actually DO speak that way, as a former Minnesota native confirmed for me when she was a classmate in my AP art class last year). ~Light Rises

My mom doesn't have a hugely strong accent (Not exactly "oh, jolly HO! Would you care for a cup of absolutely SPIFFING tea?"- like, but I actually had an English Language Arts teacher who had an accent like that); it's probably because she's lived in Canada for almost twenty years. She has a Northen English accent (she just told me when I asked, because I can't tell). I think I'd like an accent like hers. ^_^

Some people here watch the Simpsons, right? Well, you know Cletus? The slack-jawed yokel? Yeah, I HATE his accent. I think it's some kind of American accent, but I don't know what type. Anyone know? ;D

Thing is, I've NEVER heard anyone from the South talk like that, either, and I've actually heard actual, honest-to-goodness HILLBILLIES from deep in the Great Smokey Mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee-the Hillbilly Capitol of the World-speaking! I've actually talked to a bona fide hillbilly moonshiner, and he didn't sound like Cletus! Once again, Hollywood has this misconception about how Southerners speak. I have to really commend any non-Southern actor or actress who can get it right. I've heard Gary Sinese do a really good Texas accent as well as Cajun(he's from Chicago), and Dennis Quaid and his brother Randy both do some pretty convincing Georgia "Cracker" accents, and Dennis was pretty good as a New Orleans cop in "The Big Easy"(which wasn't that much of a stretch, since he's from Brooklyn, and a New Orleans "Yat" accent is VERY similar to a Brooklyn accent). And, Jason Lee totally impressed me with his South Carolina drawl, which made Buddy sound like he was from just "down the road"(Don't I WISH)! Nick Cage can also do a pretty good Georgia accent, which complimented Holly Hunter's real Cracker drawl in "Raising Arizona"(go rent it if you've never seen it-one of the funniest movies you'll ever watch). Other than that, though, there aren't many in Hollywood who can pull it off.

I think that doing an accent completely different from your own and keeping it consistent must be one of the hardest things about being an actor or actress. And Nicolas Cage is SUCH a good actor. ;D
