I know exactly how you're feeling, Lizardgirl! Even though I've actually spoilt myself with some information about this film it hasn't really sunk in. Just seeing Randall in motion for a few seconds was so exciting, and the realisation of seeing him once again on the big screen is actually more than enough for me!! At this point, I think whatever Pixar threw at us regarding Randall, I don't think I could be that disappointed. Just seeing him back in action is amazing by itself! Okay I'll *try* to stop being such a fangirl now. Just wanted to share my own excitement and how much I relate to this Oh it's been such a long wait though! Yes, exactly! I think we're sharing the same sentiment here. And I agree, just seeing him do stuff, seeing him BE RANDALL will be enough. And the fact that Randall isn't being portrayed as a bad guy means that it'll be worth the wait. But despite all of these logical thoughts and so on it still just seems like a total MIND **** if you know what I mean. I can't stop thinking about it all. He's there, our boy, we're going to see him again...It's like being reunited with a long lost friend or something. Really surreal indeed. So I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling this! That's exactly what I'm thinking. It's like seeing an old friend again!

I never thought we'd get anything like a sequel or prequel, it's all a bit dream like, and like you said, just like seeing an old friend again! Having been anticipating something like this pretty much since the first film came out (sure you're a long time fan too), it almost feels too good to be true xD and nostalgic in a way. I can't wait until it's out and all the proper discussion can start...although being in the UK I'm not sure how long I can hold out!

As the saying goes, "I know dat feel bro"- sucks to be living in the UK, I don't want to have to wait until ruddy July! On the plus side this means that it comes out literally a couple of days before I graduate so the film will have special meaning added to it (well, even MORE special meaning, haha). But still, after June 21st I think I'm just going to ban myself from the internet, haha. Tumblr is going to be the WORST. It really is too good to be true...It really is. I think I'm just going to sit and sob whilst watching MU, to be honest. And CrazyDiamond, glad to hear you too share these sentiments. It's all just, well, crazy.

I, too, am happy that we'll see Randall again(pre-puberty or not, lol), and even more so that he's not going to be portrayed as the Spawn of Satan. Just the fact that people will see that Randall was never this evil, nasty, bullying piece of crud that so many of the haters ASSumed him to have been is a good thing, but I'm still holding out for something post-MI that proves once and for all that he's OK, and gives him a chance at least, for redemption, to get back to that same sweet guy who baked cupcakes and got all angsty over him and his best friend(possibly his first-ever friend)winding up in different fraternities, taking different paths. THAT Randall is still there, underneath all that anger and fear and frustration and desperation, and the everyone needs to see that.

THAT Randall is still there, underneath all that anger and fear and frustration and desperation, and the everyone needs to see that. pitbulllady I can't decide whether I think a post-MI thing is likely or not. (Of course I want something like that to happen, desperately, but the likelihood of it happening is another issue entirely.) The thing is, I can't tell whether Pixar actually LIKES Randall now and considers him as a fully fleshed-out character in the way that we've always done, or whether they're still treating him like a plaything. If it's the former and story or time constraints were the only reasons why Randall didn't get 'more' in MU beyond the initial "d'aww, isn't he cute?" thing, then we can still hope. If it's the latter and the only reason he was featured in MU was as a callback to MI, or as a novelty, or for the humour and so on, then I can't see any reason why Pixar would feel obliged to carry on his story. This is in stark contrast to how Pixar feels towards Mike and Sulley, two characters with whom they've always been deeply in love with- so much so that they got to be the focus of another movie even though there wasn't really an unresolved storyline from the first! There's a sentimentality attached to Mike and Sulley, a recognition that they are characters of depth (and from what I've heard about MU, it seems like Pixar have taken the emotional side of things to an extreme with these two guys) and this contrasts massively to Randall, a guy created (at least initially) purely for the sake of being a distractor away from the true villain, Waternoose, and just playing the antagonist role so that Boo has someone to overcome. All the depth that we saw in MI Randall wasn't ever meant to be there, and so that begs the question- is there supposed to be depth with MU Randall? Or again, is he just serving some kind of 'role', a filler? I can't say without having seen the film but I have a hunch it's more the latter than the former, sadly. This kind of relates to something I saw on Tumblr the other day. Someone had posted something saying, what if Randy's story in MU isn't so tragic after all? And my initial thought was "but it was tragic all along". It's always been tragic to us 'in the know' and even if MU still leaves a lot of Randall stuff unresolved, well, maybe the fact that there's lots of questions around him as a character is what made him appealing in the first place? Maybe this is just the way it's meant to be? I guess I've given up on the whole "everyone needs to see who Randall really is and why he is the way he is!" thing because part of me thinks, hey, some of us have realised that even without MU, and you know what? We're in a very privileged position. We get to appreciate this fantastic character and the 'mass' audience, the people out there who need a tragic backstory for a character to be sympathetic, have been missing out all along. And it's not that I don't want Randall to have a chance at redemption, because I do. More than anything. I just think we've probably got the closest we'll ever get with MU.

LG! Welcome back! You'll be pleased to know that Randall's getting a good reception! While "reuniting" doesn't really fit for me personally...it's nice to...peek into his life...sure, there will be...unfortunate moments and stuff he probably doesn't want other people to see...but that moment we see in the trailer is just...it's good to see him like that. It's painful for him, and yeah, for me too at the same time but...
Oh don't worry LG, if they don't do anything post-MI, I've got my plans hehehe.
It's encouraging...if it's not Pixar itself, then it's Dan Schalon. I mean it's encouraging that it seems like they HAVE listened, or at least came to the realization that he wasn't a "born bad guy", but that he got twisted by OTHER people and made decisions he THOUGHT was right.
Actually I do believe tragedy does happen so...my thought was humiliation.

Actually I do believe tragedy does happen so...my thought was humiliation. Thanks Sean! Hope you're doing well! I've been naughty and have been following the fandom for a bit on Tumblr as I blog a bit on there anyway. I'm so glad he's been getting a good reception, though again that's something else that I'm currently trying to grapple with- is anyone else weirded out by the fact that huge swathes of people are now calling themselves fans of Randall? Not that it's a bad thing at all- it's great that people are finally seeing him for who he has, as we have all along!- but after years of being in the minority, it's a weird (but good!) feeling for so many others to be like, "yay Randall!" too. Well, even if it is 'just' humiliation, like you said it gives him something, adds depth, sets him on a path. But (bearing in mind I don't actually know what happens) I'm again wondering if whatever the bad thing is that happens to Randall in MU is something that Pixar wants us to laugh AT or laugh WITH- are we supposed to be empathising with Randall or having a giggle at his expense? Again, I just can't tell if Pixar care about him or not. But what you said about Dan Scanlon rings true, and I think it's PBL who before has mentioned that he seems to have a bit of a soft spot for our ole' lizard monster.

Well I'm doing fair enough, can't say the same for Ran heh heh. I've heard a little about things and I'm...preparing myself.
The amount is...staggering to be sure 0_0 But yeah, we use to be in the majority and now it's like we're in the know (wow, we created a fandom cascade ^0^). I mean we've had our trials before, and then the dust cleared...and through that dust, suddenly there are hundreds (thousands?) of people. The GOOD thing about this...is that all these new people will come in KNOWING Randall was a good person. Sure, we've known all along (least I did)...but it's...relieving to know that like him...we've gone through a struggle. We've stayed till the end and this is....like a reward. For us, and for him.
I can't be a spoiler but...to me...I think it fits things well. It makes it understandable why Randall's not...sociable, why he comes off cold....why he doesn't seem to have anybody in the end in his world...
*nods* Yep. I'm not sure...you know maybe somebody should ask what Dan thinks of the "throwing scene" (the banishment one) in MI in relation to Randall...considering how he (rightfully) portrayed him in MU.

Hmm, I'm rather concerned now. Hope our little guy will be okay. I'm glad to hear you say you think it fits well, at least- I trust your judgement on this one (though I'm sure I'll have plenty to say when it eventually comes out, haha.) And yes, it is sort of like a reward! It's weird because I guess there are other comparable fandoms out there- other so-called 'antagonists' that people support because they suspect that there's something more to them. But how often do you then get another actual FILM being made which proves that these fans are right! We're so lucky in this respect. I would love it if someone asked Dan that. It'd be the perfect way of figuring out just where he stands Randall-wise.

Your trust is in good hands heh. I've run things through my head on what I know, but still have to see. It will be personally painful for me given how connected I am for Randall. I haven't watched the original film in years yet remember most of it (to see a certain part is just gut-wrenching).
One thing we should ALL take comfort in is this....after MU...and before MI. Randall DID become a scarer. In fact he became the Top Scarer, noted as one of the best in MI history. At least for a time things.........improved.
Must be how those Family Guy fans felt when they brought the show back by sheer fan-power. But yes...while Randall doesn't take center stage (as he should/will in the sequel), there SEEMS to be enough of him to show that he was a good person that got screwed over.
*nods* Yeah...maybe after the film somebody can do that. Do we have a reporter-fan among us? *looks around.

I would love it if someone asked Dan that. It'd be the perfect way of figuring out just where he stands Randall-wise. There's no point in asking him before June 21st, but asking him this question will be the first thing I do once I get some spoilers regarding the 100% complete film. I, too, have to wait until God-knows-when date before MU comes out, and even then, I'll be able to see the a dubbed version only, which is a bummer.
