Anyone else see this movie? It's about a group of New Yorkers who get caught in the middle of an assault on this giant monster that comes out of nowhere and attacks Manhattan.
I must say, this movie is really good and quite awful.
Good points: -Has an good plot even though it ripped off Godzilla. -The fact that you never really see the monster (with the exception of a few shots) makes it that much more terrifying. -They picked the right amount of people to stay in a group. Not to big, not too small. Just right. -The first person view+digital camera made it seem unique.
Bad points: -It's filmed with a first person view and with a digital camera. This means that people with motion sickness should not watch. -There's a lot of pointless stuff in the film. For example, after their helicopter crashes, you're sitting there for about 5 minutes with a stilled image of some generic crash. You'd think the camera woulda been turned off. -Some of the characters are annoying. This goes especially for Hud, who really needs to stop taling on a few occaisions.
Overall, it's a good movie but is also terribly flawed.

I personlly really, really enjoyed but I can see why others might not. I quite liked the 1st person camera feel, although it became a bit silly after the helicopter crash and after Hud was killed. I mean, after that, who would think to pick the camera up again?
But I loved the suspense of the film, especially when I went to see it in the cinema. The audience really got into it, and made the experience something special. It just isn't the same watching it at home.

My question is, why would you pick up the camera when the monster is RIGHT THERE?! Or did it leave or something? I don't know.
As for the suspense, yeah I get what you mean.

I was obsessed with the viral campaign last year X3
I loved the movie, even though watching it in the theater made me motion sick. Don't hate on the movie for the camera. It was what Abram's was going for and it helped us feel what the characters were feeling.
Yeah, many of the decisions made in the movie were unrealistic, but it is a monster movie, after all.

I just watched the movie today. Amazing. Easily the best monster movie made in a long time (and by monster movie I mean monster(s) attacking a city)
My one complaint is they kind of stretched the party scene. In the end though it was still awesome.

I rented the movie from Redbox after something made me take interest in the film. Actually, to me, was a pretty good film. The FPV (first person view) on it was FAR better than the Blair Witch Project. And it's effect was like putting YOU in there you IN the action. It's kinda like one of those adventure games where your there experiencing the action. And it's kind of interesting it's one of the few films that the "heros" all actually fall.

I wouldn't classify them as "heroes", more or less just average Joe's.
There's also a possibility of a sequel, because at the end of the film, there's a garbled message that says "Now what?" or something. When played backwards, it comes out as "It's still alive........ help us."
Now that's a creepy thought. Bombing the tar out of a giant 30 story monster only to find out that it lived.

Actually, Abram's has announced a sequel, but he has some other projects he wants to do first. He did want to make is an ongoing thing. Remember, he got the idea from seeing Godzilla. His whole thing with Cloverfield was wanting a western movie monsters of the same sort. I wouldn't call it a ripoff as much as a homage. I feel sorry for Clover. I mean, it was just really confused and frightened. He'll (or maybe it's a she. Did they every say?) be back again. I'm still very pissed at it for eating Hud.

Lol, that pic rocks.
Yeah, I also felt sorry for Clovie. The thing was only a baby and had no idea what it was doing. But I get why they had to kill it.
My main complaint about the movie is that it killed Rob, who's like, the main dude.
I LOVE milking that joke!

They could of killed Rob a 1,000 times over, but it was killing Hud that was the end of the movie for me. And there's also to possibility that Rob is still alive. Hud is for sure dead. He was so awesome. I miss his myspace blogs.

Yeah, I wouldn't be shocked if Rob lived, because he's like, the main dude.
But... what would he say in the sequel? How would he have survived?
Person who isn' the main dude: Hey Rob, how'd you survive?
Rob: I had superpowers, because I'm like, the main dude.

I hope that the sequel focusing on other character instead of Rob or new characters. Like Teddy. I have a feeling that a it's going to focus on him because why else would they post that picture on 1-18-08.com? We already knew from Jamie's videos that he was gone, so why put up a missing poster? If it does focus on him, then we'll learn much more about the Clover's origins and possible motivations. I saw an awesome theory not too long after the movie came out. It said that perhaps the Clover only consumes people who drink a lot of Slusho. This would explain why he singled out Hud instead of Beth and Rob.
