Clover didn't do jack. All he did was walk around and roar a few times and these little spider things fell off him. It was the military that destroyed Manhattan, not Clover. While the SMART thing to do would have been to just focus every frigging shot on the monster, they instead decided to bomb ALL of Manhattan. Was that really necesarry?
Military dude: OK Mr. President person guy, we can't kill this monster. What should we do?
President: Duuuuuuhhh...durrrr... BLOW IT UP OLOLOL.
Right now I'm in a love-hate relationship with this movie. While I like that you don't exactly SEE the monster, letting some retarded guy film the movie wasn't the best decision.
I've seen Godzilla. I understand why people thing it's a ripoff. Giant monster attacks New York in a hilarious fashion. Woo.
If you want it to seem ORIGINAL, don't make it set in the same city.
(Also, $50 says the Cloverfield sequel is "Godzilla vs Cloverfield".)

Well to be honest, it's a hard choice. I mean Godzilla's got that breath and is also very resiliant. Then again, Clover survived, supposedly, an army of an attack, then again so did Godzilla I think. And Clover's also got help on his side as parts of him become those little creature things. So Godzilla probably has the power while Clover has the assistance. In the Godzilla 1998 remake, an entire lab is infested with Godzilla's babies. Mind you at the end, the lab is more or less destroyed, except one egg can be seen hatcing at the end. Plus, Godzilla's got originality on his side, whereas Cloverfield doesn't.

Military dude: OK Mr. President person guy, we can't kill this monster. What should we do? President: Duuuuuuhhh...durrrr... BLOW IT UP OLOLOL. I'm beginning to not like you so much Not only do you see him kill multiple people on accident and knock over several buildings (those ant-lion things killed a lot of people as well). That whole part of the post was a load and you know it. If they didn't kill (or at least try) it who knows what could have happened (they did slow it down a lot and let people get away, the people are more important than buildings dude). Clover could have followed the fleeing humans and killed the rest of New York City on his way to another. Also, JJ Abrams is a great writer/producer. He would never sink that low when it comes to movie ideas.

No, there isn't, it's been stated by Abrams that there's only one.

Yeah... Clover's parents aren't in the film.
(Also, $50 still says that the Cloverfield sequel is Godzilla vs Cloverfield. Anyone? Well?)

well...that might not happen, as Paramount Pictures don't have the right's to use any Toho Monster's, if they make a partnership it might happen,

Clover and the parasites were killing people while smashing things up, but the military did destroy the city more in attempts to kill the monster. Remember, it's not like they bombed off everyone there. They were evacuating people out of the city. They already tried to kill the monster one on one before deciding to blast the place. It didn't work.
Cloverfield is more of a homage than a ripoff. Abrams already stated that he was inspired by Godzilla (dur) and that he thought the U.S. should have a giant monster of their own. He wants movie after movie after movie, just like Godzilla. The originality in all of it is just the way he goes about it. Focusing more on the humans than the monster. Knowing only a little more than the characters know. We'll slowly learn more from each character as the movies go on. If you don't like it then GTFO. .

I am allowed to say my opinian right ? Ok here goes: I didn't like Cloverfield, at all. Yes, I didn't like the 1st person camera view with the sort of diary perspective. Yes I didn't like the monster. Yes, I didn't like anything really. When I saw the trailer of Cloverfield, I saw what could have turned out to be a really thrill-seeking movie but seeing the final product really disappointed me and I lost interest throughout the dvd screening. No offense to people who do like it, but it's not my so called 'cup of tea'. I definatly prefer Godzilla to this...
