I may be getting a project idea together! It's surprising the things you can come up with when talking to a supervisor. Npothing concrete yet, but possible ideas are less vague now. (Though I do have more options) In any case it will possibly involve either amphibians or reptiles in some form (in Ireland/N.Ireland). Things aren't concrete as of yet but it seems like I might be in that area- of course the difficulty is that everyone seems to do fish, mammals, plants etc. if they divide into taxonomic groups at all so it might be difficult in some respects but I'm still getting some help in some areas. What kind of project would this be? Sounds internesting, to say the least, though I'm not sure what you mean by "if they divide into taxonomic groups". pitbulllady

Sorry bad english on my part- basically most of the supervisors here here either a) Do particular ecosystems in general b) If study a particular group of species: fish, mammals and plants.
(Some others but generally that- freshwater ecosystems and coasts are pretty popular though).
There are a few phd students I think doing amphibians though, so I might end up being one of their monkeys if at all possible if I need to do field work. And they don't want me to end up drowning myself I suppose since... I think I'm the only one in my year doing it in my area.
Or maybe I'll get in with people doing something in general freshwater systems. There ARE though a couple of people studying them in the phD students though. So yeah. Like 3. Out of 100 or something I think.
And with only one native reptile I kind of doubt ANYONE is doing anything on them.
I got annoyed when a newt which seemed kind of interesting is one you can't capture at all though- but apparently you can get permits for that sort of thing and it's a good thing to have later.
(You can get special licenses... for handling certain native amphibians... I did not know this. Learn something new everyday!)
I've more or less been firing off ideas today but it does involve ecological modelling, the main problem would be choosing a species! That aaand... the idea I had was apparently more phD level/ a bit too ambitious. Maybe.
Lots of detail to be added in too to those models. Not just the suitable abiotic factors but what they need in terms of other species, and each other and any etc etc. etc.
But might try anyway, see how 'out of range' it would be with a masters after I talk it out more. So we'll see.
But I can still have a shot at it.
She gave me information and told me of this thing called 'Herpnet' and if I need to get hard to access information to get her- she knows how to work that sort of system.
Another idea that's possible is to do with invasive species though. I mean I guess that came when one of the girls from the Republic on my course afterI said I was thinking of doing something on amphibians (eh we only have one lizard) said something about someone releasing snakes or something in a forest. Lovely girl. Crazy about tigers. ANYWAY.
That also sounds interesting though haven't found much on that yet. Except apparently something about grass snakes being found down south in the 1930s or something. So yeah, have to actually find out if that's actually real or not. lol. But the supervisor seemed interested.
Like what conditions would be necessary for certain species to establish temselves in Ireland. We do already have a frog which isn't from here originally but then... many species weren't technically from here originally. Few of our fish apparently were brought over by christianity etc.
But in any case I have to do a BIG literature thing during the christmas holidays related in some way to the project it shall be about amphibians, reptiles and climate change. Most probably.
She seems nice enough (she's mor einto butterflies herself- they aren't ALL in those three other groups, but the vast majority are.)when I told her a partial reason is because I am interested in how society views reptiles and amphibians too she thought that was very interesting too and not weird at all- she hears a lot of interesting stories about how people viewed species in a lot of the countries she's been- including species which became extinct shortly after humans arrived.
So yeah she seems helpful, nice etc.and things could be starting to take shape.
Though I have to do an ethics assignment next week based on the project, but I've not got a full head on idea (more visible possibilities though), but then there are people who have YET to talk to anyone at all.
I've emailed them though so hopefully I'll either get to do something on climate change or about reptiles/amphibians in general. Uh, maybe.

Havng a bad/less than stellar day? See Megamind. That's what I did TODAY. SPOILER DOWNBELOW AND LINK: (PBL... I kind of think it's right up you alley almost Seriously. It even has the scary thing for MM being when the hero he created because he felt purposeless tried to kill him instead of take him to jail was pretty much shown to be terrible.) Livejournal post! (Kind of serious, mentions dark points in my life as well as Ice Age randomly and starts off on a downer but gets better don't worry!) mentalguru.livejournal.com/14466.html#cutid1

Pottermore finally opened to everyone. New people can now make accounts. My b/f made an account now(although it hasn't been activated yet). I look forward to finding out where he gets sorted.

Well earlier today I got tackle hugged by my sister shortly after I woke up and stepped out of my room.
She ran screaming out of her bedroom because she got accepted into a PHD program at a university she applied to.
She's still waiting on the results of all the other universities she applied to though.
I'm happy for her....but yeah I was not expecting to get tackle hugged first thing as I walked out of my bedroom when I woke up.

I thought this was interesting: It's inspiring and she's like me, except for me the birthmark is on part of my face. Mine changes colour though too sometimes so we must have the same type of birthmark.

So this happened at a university not far from here...lol....I live in Toronto....this is Hamilton, not that far away:
We had some crazy weather here recently that resulted in stuff like this. lol.
It was on the news since that normally isn't a pond. LOL. It's just because of the weather.
