I saw it on the first day since my parents are leaving for PA without me
Umm ... it had to be the greatest movie I've seen in quite some time. The Oompa Loompa songs were hilarious, but not quite as memorable as the ones in the original. Willy Wonka's germaphobe character was great too ^^ I loved him.
The kids were fit for the movie, but Veruca Salt, however, seemed more suttle than the one in the first. The first Veruca was violent, and this one just seems to be an everyday brat. She doesn't need to scream and kick to get her way, that's for sure ...
If you haven't seen it, I really reccomend it
... umm, I would like to share a funny part, but I wouldn't want to ruin it for anyone.

Haven't seen it yet....hope to. But wasn't there some problems with the film?
OH! If anybody's interested, there's a game for Willy Wonka already planned, just sayin ^_^

Oh yes, my younger brother who is the game rentining guru of the family was begged tirelessly by my sister and I to get it. We failed:(

The brother and I went to go see Charlie yesterday but left upon seeing the massive line already formed for the showing that wasn't for another hour. I don't mind too much going to a packed theatre when I'm all alone but for some reason don't like doing so when I'm with someone...no, I *don't* know why. So maybe we'll try again next week. I did, however, get to see Dark Water. Eh, kinda boring but could have been a lot worse. Okay that didn't even belong here but still.

Dark Water looks like it was made by the same people who did "Identity" (good movie by the way, X-Filish). Heh heh. You all shouldn't see a movie it's opening day unless it means allot to you. I've gotten several "private" theatre screens before ^_^

In my opinion , this film was MUCH better that the 70s version. As much of a genious as Gene Wilder is, he was a far less entertaining Wonka. When I was a little kid, I thought he purposefully lured the children into his factory to kill them! He scared the ever - lovin' poop out of me. Apparently, Roald Dahl was recorded as saying he didn't like it. Depps Wonka had such a great personality. Germaphobic, awkward, antisocial and child like. He was far more fun to watch on screen. The writing was priceless! I thought the Oompa Loompas were hysterical. Their songs were wonderful, I thought more memorable than the 70s one, although less singable. Which was YOUR favourite song? I'm not sure. I liked "Chewing Violet Beauregard" and "Augustus Gloop", "Mike Teavee" and "Veruca Salt's New Friends" equally!

Well I enjoyed the 70's version still....had one of my favorite actors, the guy who played Wonka was really funny....
But Depp seems to add a new twist to Wonka's already twisted world....
Character? Hmmmm.....Veruca Sult...
See! I didn't even have to see the film! I still remember all the 70 info ^_^

This movie was actually more faithful to the book. Minor modifications, but not for editing time, but to make the story deeper.
My favourite awful, awful child would have to be Veruca. She's such a snot, and very entertaining to watch. This new Veruca is genious! You want to slap her every time she speaks. That little actress had her down pat!
I loved Wilbut Wonka in the movie. Not just because I love Christopher Lee. That character was fascinating! At the end I just wanted to hug him with Willy:)
Throughout the whole story however, I'll have to say my favourite is the wonderfully eccentric Willy Wonka ;D

You're a Gene Wilder fan, Sean? Me too! ;D The man is just a genious. Long live younf Frakenstien! Okay...I know that wasn't his best work but he was pretty darn funny Also, for anyone interested - here's where you can sample the soundtrack for the new Wonka. It's pretty great. chocolatefactorymovie.warnerbros.com/soundtrack/

I'm a fan of Gene Wilder. This film is not a remake of the 70s version, since Tim Burton did not ever see the first version. He pulled this off pretty well ... and Johnny Depp improved a lot on the character and made him his own creation- a wacky germaphobe. ;D I was hesitant to see it ... but he's really different from Wilder's character, and to me he'll always be the true Mr. Wonka. ^__^ Umm ... I got the bootleg- only watched it once though. Can't see half the screen ...
Anyway ... I think it's a good thing that they made another version, not only because I got hyper a couple of weeks ago for watching it too often ... but it really needed to be brought out into the open once again. The story, that is. This version is dark, however, and I think it would scare little children to see Willy Wonka watch kids in danger and find it amusing, even though the kids ARE brats. But they really do add a lot of backstory rather than in the first one where the ending left me questioning 'That's it???' It really killed me. That's the one thing I hate about the Gene Wilder version ... it ended too soon. =P

Really? I thought both worlds were wacky and creative in their own way ^_^
