Has anyone here ever been through serious depression, and if so, are there any good cures for it?

I am probably biploar (it runs in the family) and have been quite depressed in my day, but haven't sought any "cures" for it. If you have bipolarism or anything *else* my hypocritical advice is to seek medical help, you may need medication. I've known people who have been hospitallised for depression as well.
If you're depressed and it concerns you, you should see a doctor. Sorry if that's not what you wanted to hear.
(Non-medically speaking, I have to admit that being tickled helps cheer me up - though technically, it *is* medical, as the brain releases chemicals when you're being tickled that are hypothesised to be beneficial as far as mood goes. Unless you hate being tickled, which unfortunately many people do.)

Not serious depression, no, but light and very temporary depression. The doctor was very good in not giving me any pills or medication at first, because she thought it was a good idea to wait a while to see what would happen, and then after seeing her, it lifted, so her judgement was correct. But serious depression is another matter. A friend of mine's mother is suffering from depression, and she takes numerous types of medication, and although they do help her, there are several side-effects. Alternate therapy is another route, but it is known for being able to help only certain kinds of people.

You know, it's a possibility that I MIGHT be bipolar, though I haven't been able to tell with any certainty. I DO know some of the causes of the depression, but mine just appears to be chronic, every other day I'll just feel depressed and or breakdown.
Hmm, as far as being concerned, yes I am but so far nothing quite serious has occured.
Yeah it's pretty tricky to make a call with this unfortunately.
The more I think about it....it's a strong possibility that Bipolar Disorder does in fact afflict me.

I have, but I don't know any cure 'cept Godspell. xD For me, anyway. Makes me happy ^^
But yeah, I've gotten so depressed and 'bi-polar' at times, or at least my mom thinks I'm bi-polar. Guidance Counselors or Psychiatrists do not help. I've been to about five. They only tell me to calmly 'analyze the situation and talk to your parents about your problems in a calm manner'. That's a load of bull, since my parents don't like to hear what I have to say at all. They just tell me to stop complaining, or they constantly remind me that I need some sort of medical help.
I used to think I was crazy, but not anymore. I'm cooling down and I'm trying to not let anyone's hurtful words affect me much.
Medication/Cure ... find a hobby, draw, write, or read. That's what I do. Or just watch an old movie that used to cheer you up. Works for me. =)

Yeah I agree with you on the hobby part, I already write, and am working on learning how to draw, though I'm always working all the time, and I haven't been able to work on my stories in weeks, which is kinda sad in itself but yeah, if I just had more free time, I'd relax a lot more ^_^
Pfft, I know what you mean about parents, heck my friends give better advice than my parents do in situations like this.

Once in a while I've been depressed, but then some how I find a way to return to my happy self. What does bipolar mean? I've never heard of it (I have a very bad knollege for words just to let you guys know. *blushes*). Nice picture of Remy and the other rat, I think it's cute. ^_^
I few cures I've done if I was feeling down was just drawing what I felt like in the inside of me. I think once in a while I put down my feeling in fanfics, I've written.

Thank you on the pic ^_^
Bipolar is a mental disorder in which a person experiences a swing from happy to depressed in relatively short time. They'll just break down and cry and get upset for no clear reason. That's quite similar to me, I'm happy certain days, but I'd say about every other day I just break down.
