I went to the Carolina Place Mall in NC today to see what new Stitch stuff the Disney Store had, and stopped in the Walden Books store while I was there. There is a new paperback book in the kiddie book section entitled "Pixar News", designed to look like one of those supermarket tabloids, but smaller, and featuring the Pixar movies. They have a "Most Wanted" section in the middle about the "Bad Guys" in Pixar's movies, and it features "wanted posters"(like the ones in the post office of dangerous criminals and their crimes and aliases)and one of them is Randall! His "crimes"? "Stealing" screams(WTF?)and "importing" human children into the Monster World! EXCUSE ME?! It was SULLEY who brought the kid in, NOT Randall! And how was he "stealing" screams? He scared kids and got them to scream just like ALL the Scarers did, Sullivan included-it was his freakin' JOB! I was so aggravated I didn't even look to see who wrote that *&^% book! Of course, Buddy was right up above Randall, and his "crime", believe it or not, was "impersonating a Super"! WHAA?? No mention of the fact that he did kill people. Guess who's picture was NOT there-go ahead and guess! I'll give you a clue-he's an old CRAB.

Oh FOR GOD'S SAKE! Okay, so they had Randall there for doing things that he hadn't done, and that the 'heroes' of the story HAD, and then they had Buddy there but didn't even MENTION his worse crime, and then they completely FORGOT about the ACTUAL villain of M.I?! What is WRONG with people?! Why can't they, before writing some crap about a film and basically LYING to the public, sit down and watch the friggin' thing? Why? Is that so hard, or is there some kind of rule that if you're making a book or merchandise about a film, that is has to be completely and utterly wrong?

Oh, though I'm gonna move this to the Randall section, since it's more about him than Mike and Sulley.

Did they at least have original art for his picture in the wanted poster? Not just a shot of his usual, hands together "just-look-how-evil-he-is" pose?
With what you said of Syndrome, it appears that he's not the only one who got the short end of the stick, here. Who else was on those pages?
I have a theory, here; many of Disney's villains are pretty much two-dimensional (ie, they're just EEEEEEeeeevil!) - for example, the evil witch in Sleeping Beauty, Gaston from Beauty And The Beast (well, he was a two-dimensional obnoxious pighead, but you get what I'm saying, right?). Therefore, the Disney writers aren't used to writing about antagonists who actually have depth to their characters. They probably just have a short synopsis of the movie to go from, if they have no time (or just don't want to take the time) to watch the movie itself. Therefore, since they are used to dealing with 2-D characters, they write 2-D characters. Do I make sense?

I think the real reason Disney considers Randall a villain is because of his looks. He LOOKS like a creep, and he hates the so-called 'heroes'. That alone makes many people believe he's a villain. I used to, until I started to have fandoms, and I began to look at every character from a different perspective, or I try to see the situations from their point-of-view.
Y'know ... I just thought of something- a lot of villains act upon revenge on another being.
Like Hades getting revenge on his brother, mainly based on the fact that he had last choice and HAD to rule the underworld, not wholly based on jealousy- what everyone else thinks.
Captain Hook wanted to kill Peter Pan, and I see no reason why not- wouldn't you want to kill the guy who fed your hand to a crocodile?
Maleficent ... I can't really back her up, since I saw the movie only once recently, but I believe she was banished for being who she was- a witch.
The Wicked Queen was just full of herself ...
Scar had some jealousy but according to theories Mufasa was chosen over him to rule, and many fans believe it was he who gave 'Taka' that scar, thus earning his new name.
Gaston ... I have several friends who like him, but to put it plainly, he's an airhead. What sort of idiot brings a bunch of villagers into harms way to attack a beast that's been there for about ten years and hasn't hurt/killed anyone thus far? O__o
Randall ... being a villain fan, I know he's no true villain. Maybe a henchman- and henchmen are known to leave their 'boss', master, etc. or switch to the other side. Example- Molt, Creeper, Vitani (I believe the only reason she went against her mother was to prevent her remaining brother from getting hurt or killed) and Pain and Panic- if Gods could die, they'd have left a long time ago. They're smart enough to know that no one messes with the god of death, but if given the chance, they'd be long gone.
I hope I made some sense. ;D

This "Most Wanted List" included Sid(from "Toy Story"), Hopper, Stinky Pete, Darla(the little not-so-bright girl from "Finding Nemo"), etc., along with Buddy and Randall. The Randall pose they showed was the one of him grinning after "materializing" from Mike's locker and scaring the snot out of the little coward! BUDDY actually came off better than Randall-the only thing HE is accused of is "impersonating a Super"! There is no mention of him KILLING anyone, or sending a nearly-indestructable robot to attack a city so he can pretend to save everyone and get people to love him that way, or of him trying to kidnap a baby! Poor Randall, though, is accused of "stealing screams" and of "importing human children into the Monster World", NEITHER of which he did! ALL the Scarers, including James P. Sullivan, "stole" screams each night when they came into children's rooms and scared them, and it was Mr. Sullivan, NOT Randall, who actually "imported" that kid into the Monster World, and it was WATERNOOSE who came up with the idea to bring in human children in the first place, yet HE isn't on there anywhere!

I think the real reason Disney considers Randall a villain is because of his looks. He LOOKS like a creep, and he hates the so-called 'heroes'. That alone makes many people believe he's a villain. I used to, until I started to have fandoms, and I began to look at every character from a different perspective, or I try to see the situations from their point-of-view." In my Collegiate dictionary, the word "creep", used as a noun, means "an unpleasant, disgusting or loathsome person". While Randall's personality in the movie leaves a bit to be desired at that point, it can be easily understood how and why he would not have been full of warmth and sunshine. I don't really have room to speak, since there are times when I'm not exactly Mother Theresa myself. What aspect of Randall, physical or behavioral, is "loathsome" or "disgusting"? Mike uses the word "creep" to describe Randall, long before he finds out about the Scream Extractor or before Randall threatens him or Sulley in any way. At this point in the movie, all Randall has done is to scare Mike-a bit immature, perhaps, but again, most of us have done similar things to try to lighten stress. It's a survival mechanism. What is it about Randall, then, that Mike finds "loathsome" and "disgusting", i.e, "creepy"? Why does he(and much of the movie's audience)already have a preconceived notion of Randall being a "creep", a loathsome and disgusting individual, even before Randall has actually done anything or said anything that can be construed as a threat? Y'all know the answer to that as much as I do-Randall is SCALY. He's REPTILIAN. Most people consider snakes and lizards to be "creepy", "loathsome" and "disgusting", and this shows how that prejudice carries over into the movie's audience, and even the other characters in the movie. I've said it before and I'll say it again; if Randall had been covered with soft FUR or feathers, ANYTHING but reptile-like scales, and didn't have that snake-like forked tongue, people's perception of him would have been much, much different, even if he still acted the same way and did the same things. Randall was d a m n e d before he ever opened his mouth or before he did one single thing. pitbulllady

*claps* Congradulations.... Randall's ancestors left their future kin with so much trouble in the world. They say respect your elders...but that goes a little TOO far in the Monster World...

What!? Oh dear, wha - wh - ugh! Why! Another lovely book, for writing it the author is paid - what, some ungodly sum, to pump out fresh crapola? Ugh! If you're going to write, if you choose it as a profession, Do it well! Know your facts! "stealing screams" Ha!
"Impersonating a Super"? Does that mean all the 5 year old boys hopping around their houses in briefs and a cape will find themselves in the next Most Wanted List? It is pretty darn obvious mislead little Buddy did comit murder, and yet..."Impersonating a Super"? Please!
You know, it makes you wonder why Randall was targeted as the lead villian. I agree, he was more of a henchman ( I am a villian NERD) And Waternoose was behind all of it. "I'll kidnap a thousand children before I let this company die!" Hello! Randall didn't say anything even remotely sadistic like that. Now, I know this was a children's movie but bear with me, in court, with a confession like that, you would deffinately look like "the bad guy" far more so than your henchman.

You got THAT right, Rathereccentric! That's why I've said before that Randall would not have gotten a very stiff sentence if he HAD been arrested, regardless of his "race", due to that confession. Prosecutors are always on the lookout for the "head honchos" behind crimes, much moreso than the henchmen. They get paid much more for successfully prosecuting a big-shot like Waternoose; that puts a far more important feather in their career caps, so to speak. Randall's own testimony would have also been extremely valuable, so again, they would have been more than willing to plea bargain with him. That's how legal systems work, and Randall being reptilian would not matter in this case, as long as the judge and DA were able to land the really big fish-Waternoose. You know, an interesting scenario came up, based upon my father's account of an episode of his favorite tv show, "Law and Order". Since Randall is a key piece of evidence against Waternoose, it's possible that a trial for Waternoose could not begin without Randall being there to give his side of the story. That would of course, lead to inquiries as to just where Mr. Boggs was, which would bring Sulley and Mike into the picture in a way they really wouldn't like, reveal the CDA coverup, and possibly mean a search party into the Human World to locate this key witness.

And it sounds like Randall and Buddy aren't the only ones who are mis-interpereted in this book- I mean, Darla? Sure, she's a not-so-nice little girl, and she does have an evil gleam in her eyes, but she isn't 'evil' at all! I mean, what has she done? Okay, she killed a fish, so therefore all fisherman are 'evil', then, are they? It's the same case with Sid- he blew toys up, but it's not as though he KNEW they were 'alive', was it? He wasn't evil at all- it was just his idea of fun that's a bit crude.

Hello people....
That's what "Trials of Life" is about. I got a great plot and I am, and shall, be the only one doing the trials...

Darla wasn't "evil". I strongly got the impression that she wasn't a very bright kid at all, but one of those kids who rode to school on the "short bus", if you know what I mean. She could not, of course, help that. I don't think she was capable of comprehending the results of her actions, or even that "fishies" were living things. And Sid was a a typical young boy, raised on a media that glorifies violence, and to him, toys were just things. He's the sort of kid that creates Extremasaurs as Imaginary Friends.
Still, nothing bugs me more than them failing to include Waternoose in this list of "Most Wanted". He's almost NEVER mentioned at all as the "bad guy", in fact, while poor Randall takes all the flack!
