It doesn't make it official. Even despite it came from an official fan resource for the company that owns Pixar? The key word here is "FAN". ANYONE can say that they have an "official fan site", which can mean anything from an acual endorsement from a studio employee(who could just as well be a janitor)to simply being allowed to exist without being told by the studio to remove the site. I mean, Never Forgotten is usually considered the "Official Foster's Home" site, since Craig and Lauren are actually members there, but they didn't put it up and don't control what is put there. I'll weigh in later this evening once I'm home from work and get all my stuff done. pitbulllady

Alas, pitbulllady, that's not the only source of this planned sequel. Check randomdrifter's first post in this thread.

Considering the multiple sources, I think it seems legit enough. Of course, I'm worried. If it's true, it means that the script may have been done for some time. But we all know that plot lines are flexible during production. Guess we'll have to wail a little longer before this all is confirmed for good.
This is the first time I've heard of Brave. What's the information on that?
I'm concerned about Newt. I was terribly looking forward to it and it looks like it has been pushed aside.

This is definitely official now. I've seen it on several legitimate websites.
No idea how I feel about this. If Monsters, Inc. didn't have Randall in it in the first place I still would've been a fan of it, so a visit back to this world that I love I have to see as a good thing, but my god what are they going to do to Randall? Make him the 'bad guy' all over again? Or forget about him entirely? I don't know which is worse, I really don't.
Bampot, it does seem like Newt is not going to go ahead at all- at least, not any time soon. And Brave is just the codename for The Bear and the Bow, Pixar's future film about a Scottish princess.

To me, that, by far, beats him being grossly different in portrayal and personality. Alas, even THAT seems unlikely, given the fact that most of the recent M.I. developments involve demonizing him, somehow.

My mistake, apparently The Bear and the Bow is now officially called Brave. A shame, I think.
I think that there's no point trying to guess what Pixar will do with Randall (if anything at all). I can't see them completely changing his character, though- if there's one thing Pixar can usually get right, it's characterisation.
And who knows, they may surprise us. I think it's probably best to expect the worst, so if they do manage to deal with Randall symapthetically, then we can be pleasantly surprised.

I'll just hold out and not expect much. I'm still wary about a sequel in general, to be honest.
They threw out Newt for a princess story?! "Ugh" is as much as I can sum that up. Well, I guess I'll have to wait and see about that one too. Newt could of easily been my favorite Pixar movie. I'm hoping it's just postponed and not forgotten.
I'm just going to throw this out there, but how come there is minimal talk for an Incredibles sequel? I mean, it really was the only Pixar film that could have fitting multiple follow-ups. I thought they would jump on that right away, but I sit her waiting.

Indeed. I liked the sound of Newt over Brave, myself. That IS true, Bampot. Second to M.I., I thought that the Incredibles was the kind of film that would have a sequel, yet there's still no official talk about it. Anyway, I appreciate that you're trying to reassure me, lizardgirl.

As already mentioned elsewhere, I'm feeling apprehensive really. A sequel has such potential to do well... or go terribly wrong. It's not even just a question of the characters, but the world too. They created a whole world, albeit one connected to ours which increases the potential for things to... have huge gaping plot holes between the movies. Particulary if they fall into the old creator trap of thinking they don't have to rewatch and that they know all they have to know already. Time= forgetting things it doesn't matter if you were the creator. That happens. And even just little thing a character says or does can have bigger consequences as it can say something about how that actual world functions, not just something about them.
If they don't watch the original movie hundreds of times with a fine tooth comb- things will go wrong.
Okay so I anticipate mistakes ANYWAY despite that, it can't be perfect after all. No story is. But still- the way they could make things go wrong is so much higher here.
The Monster world is more or less an attempt of having America 2.0 with sentient beings which are not human from what we see of it. Not that original really when you think about it (heck CARS did that too), shows almost a lack of imagination, but they have such potential with it all the same, especially it is intriguing that it is connected to 'ours' too. It is more from their MISTAKES in the first movie really then anything. Even if how they made the monster world was a bit... lazy (collective gasp), and some of the more interesting parts for me were THROUGH their mistakes or was unintentional- still the world has potential.
And that world was what FIRST sparked my interest in the idea of world creation. Yes, certain other fandoms increased the desire (and lets face it with worlds more imaginative), but M.I. is the first and remains one with great potential in some respects for me. Has a special place in my heart in some ways too.
But once again of course, even though this movie I feel needs a sequel, it would be better if they left it alone completely then come up with something which ruins the world (even disregarding the characters).
World creation is... delicate. Through not thinking it through the first time around in their first movie, there were certain things which seemed to leave the story incomplete for me. The thing is- will they fix their holes? Complete the whole bridge? Perhaps there will be no drastic change to the world? But heck they could blast even MORE holes in it too.
I KNOW they did not INTEND for the CDA to come across the way I see them. Nor did they intend for Randall's exile at best to be seen as a highly questionable area if not at least illegal (a monster world like that just doesn't work very well if any citizen could do that, but you've heard it all before). Heck even the fact Boo never really faced her fear for real. Or at least not in a particulary good way!
Yes, I know they INTENDED to produce a movie with a solid 'perfect ending'.
But I just don't see it that way at all. Can't really.
Plot holes happen though really. Do in any story. And I don't expect a sequel to cover EVERYTHING I'd like.
But perhaps its not characters we should just be focusing on here. There's the world to think about too. Boom!comics, if you'll remember... they made the CDA even worse then they already were while NOT intending to do so as well as the story in of itself failing to make sense in some respects. Granted Boom! isn't Pixar even though they were endorsed (thank goodness for that).
But Boom is kind of an example where things can go a strange way... heck it could be argued that they didn't exactly DESTROY the world there at least (except for the stupid timeline thing and Boo not being older... the idiots if you'll pardon the name calling) but they certainly (while unintentionally) made it seem a fair bit darker even then the first movie even though that was obviously a MISTAKE. In a deceptively kiddie setting too.
Odd.

I've seen this picture BEFORE this news came out. Essentially I'm guessing it's just a promotional picture for another area of release. It most likely is Boo they're afraid of. So to be honest, the picture is just a picture, doesn't really lend to the plot of a sequel because it was around beforehand.
Oh please. Ask? Write? Well certainly not about M.I. unless we're kissing up, we all know we've gotten zip so far in that regard. But...it may be possible to learn IF and WHY Newt is getting canned.
To my knowledge, there's not too big a hype over these comics from what I've seen.
At least ONE thing they should take from the Boom Comics is the fact Sullivan can't handle being CEO. He KNOWS the workers, which is something a CEO should know, but he's just been pushed into it. But one thing they SHOULDN'T (amoung a gallery of others) do is have Sullivan completely free of guilt (though I did find it interesting HE was the aggressor in the first comic, taking first jabs).
I think Waternoose won't come in a speaking roll and might actually be dead and given a memorial (as a homage to his VA). --------------------- Of course, it IS also not out of the ordinary for companies to make false information leak on purpose to get people riled up. Who knows. Maybe this is a PLOY people. With Toy Story, Cars, and Monsters Inc. having sequels IN A LINE, it CAN perhaps BOOST their sales and advertizement for the horrible BOOM! Comics, all three of which have been made into them.
Brave if I recall is the new title for the Bear and the Bow...I think. ------------- What worries me LG, is the fact that M.I.'s development now has one year less. That means that some long-term plans may have changed and they might be forced (normally or by Disney) to make "the usual decisions". ---------------- I doubt they'd leave Randall out now that I think about it. ------------- Actually Bampot, if I recall, Newt was canned, and M.I. is taking it's place in the "line-up" sort of speak.
As for Incredibles, I don't know, there are possibilites. --------------

OK, if this is now on the highlights of MSN.com news, then now we can all say "It's official." movies.msn.com/movies/article.aspx?news=495528>1=28101As with the article on The Wall Street Journal Blog, there's not much detail other than a release date on Nov 2012. Two years is two years though. How long does it take for a Pixar film to go from a script to animation? Oh, wow. If that's the case, Los Angeles Times and just about every other media outlet might want to start making edits to their news releases. www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/la-et-fast-track-apr23,0,628117.story

MSN as well hm....news is spreading rather fast...
That's an interesting question RD. Sometimes I wonder how Pixar pumps out greatness in just a year. My theory is that they have most of their staff work on the main film for the year, while the rest work on ideas for the next one. So essentially in one year, a film is finished, and the "bare bones" if you will of the next is done (of course that's mainly like story and the initial design (or final) sketches of the characters and such.

OK, I've had time to peruse the net a bit during my "potty break" at school, and it has been confirmed that MI2 is legit, with a release date set for November 16, 2012. I'd strongly suspected that the second movie that Pixar intended for release in 2012 would be M.I.2, especially when they announced that Newt would NOT be released in that year, and of course, that hunch was correct.
I also read on the Pixar Planet forum where Lizardgirl posted about the Wikipedia article which stated that John Goodman, Billy Crystal AND Steve Buscemi were set to return to the cast, along with the additions of James Earl Jones, Gary Oldman and Justin Bartha(had to Google him, since I'd never heard of the guy). Of course, if Steve Buscemi is returning, that can only mean one thing: RANDALL is returning, as well. As I said on the Pixar Planet forum, this will mean one of two things; either it will be the culmination of my fondest, decade-old dream, or it will be my worst nightmare, and the absolute ending of my support for anything Pixar. I have said it before-I will never spend another penny on anything they make, and I will make it one of my life's goals to turn as many against them as possible. Yes, I feel that strongly about this. It's one thing for fans of a character to simply WISH that things would go this way or that with the character, but WE have gone above and beyond that in trying to make our voices heard. Whether or not Pixar has, or hasn't, is something that has yet to be seen. Maybe they're aware of us, but just have not chosen to respond, sticking instead to their famous "cloak of secrecy", or maybe they've heard us, and chosen to flip us the finger. While I know that Wikipedia is FAR from being the most-reliable source of movie/entertainment info, if there's any truth to that, the inclusion of James Earl Jones, respectable actor that he is, makes me even more worried. Given his deep, authoritative voice, he's a likely candidate to voice Henry J. Waternoose, now that James Coburn has passed away, and most of the folks who will go see the sequel will not even notice the difference in Waternoose's voice, if that's the case. For Pixar to bring back both Randall AND Waternoose makes me even more worried that they are simply going to make an animated, 3-D version of the puke-worthy BOOM! comics, or some other "Randall and Mr. Waternoose Seek Revenge On Our Heroes" crap. If that is the case, then the world might as well end in 2012.

I'm honestly not sure what to believe in regards to their particular movie-making process. While yours sound logical, RandallBoggs, I also got an email from pitbulllady, who expressed that they're probably done with the storyline already. Again, I'm torn.

James Earl Jones....huh...sounds more like Waternoose's FATHER to me...*chuckles*
But still wouldn't that be like a kick in the butt to the one guy who VA before? I mean he did a great job, his last job....and oh I dunno *shrugs*
