My favourite colour IS green. I never knew it had negative conotations at all. But then I've never looked into it.
Kids can be real cruel Mistica, I've said this before, but I think the worst age bracket for me was 12-14. It's even worse when people associate people with family sometimes. Though honestly at my school people grew out of that eventually. Had to considering where I'm from. But they were freaking weird about sexuality some of them.
I think everyone has different views of characters and their sexuality in the end. Most people are technically straight. (Though apparently most people in the Kinsey scale have a tiny LITTLE bit of attraction to the same gender, but they have a preference for the opposite overall which is much stronger and that attractiveness is not enough for them to want a relationship in that area).
Everyone has different views on the subject, but I doubt colour is a reliable indication. Thing is yes you DO get effiminate gay guys.
You also get effiminate STRAIGHT guys though. You also get manly men straight guys and gay guys. (And of course those who swing both ways.) Same with women. It's not... really all that a reliable indicator. It's a personal choice, or even simply what they have on hand or can do.
We all have different views of characters. I personally view Aang and Zuko as not being all that fussed with gender deep down in the people they are attracted to, they people they happened to fall for were just female. (Hilarious chemistry they share together not withstanding.)
In Monsters Inc, meh, I think Mike and Randall are straight. Sulley? Asexual and probably aromantic. Odd but I just don't really see him caring that much about it in any case. And while he might have old fashioned roots, I can't see him 'HOW DARE YOU!!!" if someone called HIM gay or some other sexuality. I don't see him taking that much of an issue with it. If Sulley heard two guys going out, he wouldn't see a big deal in it. He'd be awkward if they made out in front of him, but he'd be awkward if it was a girl and a guy too. I don't see Sulley being comfortable with sugary romantic public displays of affection no matter who is involved, given how he reacts to Mike and Celias names.
Mike would be decidedly more awkward about the idea of a gay GUY in a different way in my opinion at least (maybe not so much with gay WOMEN though). I don't know, while he wouldn't mean to do this, since he does have an inflated opinion of his luck with ladies, so I wouldn't be surprised if he was someone who would be SCARED of hanging around a gay guy, as if he's 'too tempting' or something and he'd force himself on him and thus would would only hang around him with Sulley in the picture. Or never wanting to be 'alone' in the locker room with him.
I can see him doing something daft like that somehow. Granted, a severe wake up call would be in order and could be possible.
Aaaand now I have a bizarre thought. What if MIKE thought Randall was gay? Would that be attributing factor to some fear?
Very cracky idea, but plausible. I wonder if when he notices Sulley doesn't date any women, he's ever wondered....
Suddenly the idea of him being a buffer between Randall and Sulley becomes a little more convoluted. o_0
Once again though this is mostly just a rather out there (if slightly plausible?!) idea.
Anyhow, in the sequel if they DO have things get patched up, I would be amused if they carried on the joke from the previous movie (where from Celia's perspective if sounds like Mike likes Sulley that way) and had it sound like they were in some sort of messed up triangle as Sulley tries to convince Mike he's not being replaced by Randall and he's still important to him. LOL.
I can imagine Celia and Boo just watching it, and Boo being a little older kind of looking to Celia with a WTF expression as this all unfolds. I mean on some level they'd maybe understand that is NOT what's going on, but can't help but imagine what it seems like to a stranger who doesn't know them.
