Yeah. Not only does that headscar, vertical from front to forehead for those who don't know, become a constant reminded to Randall of....his "arrival" in our world....but it is also what cost him his special...gift. That.

I can't believe how some employees would treat Randall different just because he looks different from the rest of them. I mean, can't they all just get along for once? HUMANS treat other humans badly if they look or act different, believe me! Since monsters ARE descended from humans, and they act like us, it would make sense that they'd share our negative traits, too. Like Sean and I have often pointed out, if monsters have anywhere NEAR the bias against reptiles that many human cultures do, any monster who looks reptilian is going to catch you-know-what for most of his or her life, for that reason alone. If reptilian monsters were NOT a minority, at least in Monstropolis, I would expect to see them better represented in the movie, with more of them being seen. There are lots of those little oblong blobs with legs and various eye counts, like Mike and Fungus, lots of slimy slugs, like Roz and the janitor Juan Chalubi, lots of tentacled monsters, like Celia Mae and Waxford and the octopus chef at the restaurant, plenty of big furry things like Sulley and George, and big rubbery things like Pete Ward and that dude with all those eyes all over his body, but only one scaly monster in the entire movie-and HE was depicted as the Bad Guy. pitbulllady Monsters are descended from humans?! How'd you come up with that

Umm...the History of the Monster World on the DVD 0_- Yep, it's on the DVD, in an extra(done in black-and-white) called "History of the Monster World". It explains that the monsters are descended from beings called "Mons", that existed in the prehistoric Human World, which were believed to be mutant humans that didn't look like everyone else. Given our usual reaction towards anything and anyone that is "different", the "normal" humans, who called themselves "Mans", treated the Mons very badly and persecuted them, and blamed them when things went wrong. Eventually, they forced the Mons to start their own villages and societies, since they were afraid to live among their Mans relatives. The Mons were forced to scavenge the outskirts of Mans villages, leading to them being accused of stealing and other bad things, and this led to fighting between them. The Mons were defeated, and were forced onto a large boat or raft(shades of the universal Flood mythos, along with the whole "St. Patrick" legend) and put out to sea, presumably to die. Instead, they crossed some sort of dimensional "wormhole" or vortex into another world, where they landed on an island. In that world, there was an unusual fruit, which, when eaten, caused the Mons to absorb the DNA of living things that they ate(sort of a Garden of Eden, Forbidden Fruit thing), taking on the characteristics of those things, changing their appearances from that of ordinary humans, their relatives, even more. This is what led to the highly-varied appearances of monsters today, but genes don't go away. The human genes of their ancestors would still be there, and this is why they are capable of building cities, technology, having complex languages and cultures...everything WE can do. They started out as US, but have been separated from us, genetically, for several thousand years. pitbulllady
