I was gonna ask Randall himself about this...but he always gets touchy when I ask him about his ability, since it's hard for him to use it. Anyway.... I didn't want to ask before he started talking about it in his life story....but what the hey...
My question is this.
Can Randall, or any animal with the ability, SEE himself when they're invisible. Having been with Ran for about three years now, I just guess that he can't see himself, but he KNOWS where his arms, legs, and whole body is.

Well, he's not really "invisable", technically; he just is able to perfectly match his background in color and patterns. He would not be invisable, say, in the same way that Violet Parr turns invisable. AND, presumably, the degree of "invisability" would also depend on the perspective ot whoever was looking at him, since he would change colors to blend with his background from the perspective of others, not himself. He would most likely still contrast, at least to some degree, with the background HE sees, which would not be the same one seen by whoever is looking at HIM.
Just thinking about what complex brain activity this would require gives me a headache!

So....can he see himself or not?

So....can he see himself or not? Unless he can simultaneously blend in with two different backgrounds-the one he's standing against from the perspective of someone else looking at HIM, AND the background of the other person or person's, then yes, he would be able to see himself. PLUS, he's apparently got infrared heat receptors around his lower jaw, just below his lips, so he would be able to detect his own head "signature", even in pitch-black darkness. pitbulllady

He has infrared heat sensors?

I suppose ^_^ If Pitbulllady say's it, I'm guessing she's right, being the reptile expert here ^_^

He has infrared heat sensors? Yep; at a certain angle, from the front, you can see little spaces between some of the scales on his lower jaw, near his lower lip, and the skin, similar to what you'd see on most pythons, but not quite that large. Most likely, Randall does not depend as much on being able to sense the infrared heat signature of other warm-blooded creatures because he does not need to in order to survive. He'd just buy food from a store or restaurant like most everyone else, but that ability would sure come in handy in a darkened bedroom, in locating a sleeping child. pitbulllady

Oh, give me a break... Of course Randall can't see himself! What would be the use of that?!?

Oh, give me a break... Of course Randall can't see himself! What would be the use of that?!? Um, due to the method by which he turns 'invisible' in the first place, he must be able to see himself. As Pitbulllady said previously- "Unless he can simultaneously blend in with two different backgrounds-the one he's standing against from the perspective of someone else looking at HIM, AND the background of the other person or person's, then yes, he would be able to see himself."

If he uses phased array optics, as I suggested, then he would not be able to see himself, if I understand the concept correctly. However, he DOES have infrared "eyes" on his lower lip, as pitbullady pointed out, so he could see himself with those.
