This is one of my very favourite songs....it has been for many years....I associated it a lot with Envy too.....but it also works with Randall pretty well(not every single lyric line but for the most part it suits him pretty well I think):

Wish you were here - Pink Floyd So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell, blue skies from pain. Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail? A smile from a veil? Do you think you can tell? And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts? Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cool breeze? Cold comfort for change? And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage? How I wish, how I wish you were here. We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year, Running over the same old ground. What have you found? The same old fears. Wish you were here.

This is more cold and darker ambiance, but if they ever made a full movie about Randall's life, I definitely picture it opening with this. From the infinitely creepy and yet very talented minds of Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) and Atticus Ross, the song "What If We Could?" was made for the "Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" soundtrack.
I picture this at the opening of Randall's film, perhaps retitled simply as "Boggs Family." It'd be early morning, sunlight streaming in through a window, and we'd slowly watch as the camera moved from room to room of the Boggs' residence, seeing various things like pictures of his family, and reminders of "happier times." Finally, we'd move upstairs, where the song ends, to move over Randall's bed and a scene of Randall sleeping... just starting to wake up... or something like that. XD

Yeah, I can picture it too. Another sad morning for Randall… I can even imagine the movie covering the MI events from his perspective in the first act, and then moving on to cover his fate after being thrown out of the monster world.
I know this music is kinda cliché because of how overused it is (at least here), but it's a beautiful piece of music nevertheless. Yann Tiersen's Comptine d'un Autre Été from the heartwarming French movie "Amelie". It fits any sad scene really well.

I think this song suits him.
It's Illusion by VNV Nation. Lyrics are in the link/video.
I actually first heard the song in a MV about Loki:

Indeed, that song truly suits him well... I remember you mentioned you're from Canada. That reminded me of this: Long before the MU was even announced, I've always imagined that a possible sequel could include a dedicated redemption scene, something a bit more abstract or psychedelic, happening inside Randall's mind, with him reviewing his entire life, happy and sad moments alike. Dante's Prayer by the very talented Canadian artist Loreena McKennitt would fit such scene perfectly. Randall reconciling with the Lord... Intriguing, isn't it? Lyrics: When the dark wood fell before me And all the paths were overgrown When the priests of pride say there is no other way I tilled the sorrows of stone
I did not believe because I could not see Though you came to me in the night When the dawn seemed forever lost You showed me your love in the light of the stars
Cast your eyes on the ocean Cast your soul to the sea When the dark night seems endless Please remember me
Then the mountain rose before me By the deep well of desire From the fountain of forgiveness Beyond the ice and the fire
Cast your eyes on the ocean Cast your soul to the sea When the dark night seems endless Please remember me
Though we share this humble path, alone How fragile is the heart Oh give these clay feet wings to fly To touch the face of the stars
Breathe life into this feeble heart Lift this mortal veil of fear Take these crumbled hopes, etched with tears We'll rise above these earthly cares
Cast your eyes on the ocean Cast your soul to the sea When the dark night seems endless Please remember me...
*** It's a shame McKennitt only got to work for Disney once (narrator and singer in Tinkerbell).

OMG! That song you just posted! I've always loved that song and have listened to it since it first came out when I was a young teen!
Also yes I am from Canada.

I love all Loreena's work. I even got to see her live in Poland. I may be a rock/metal fan, but boy, THAT was the best concert I've ever been to!

I don't really know if I have a favourite genre of music though....I just listen to a lot of various things. I've never been to a concert. I don't think concerts are really my thing...generally really loud at those places and such.

That's why I loved her concert so much. It wasn't loud at all, it was more like watching a symphonic orchestra. Audience silent, indulging in music, with me sitting in the front row. Wow, what a memory!
And yes, I listen to many different genres as well (classical, chansons, etc.). It's just that most of my favorite bands are old-school classics like Pink Floyd (hence my username), the Beatles, Deep Purple, ACDC etc. But then there's Green Day, Muse and others as well, so it's kinda hard to generalize…

I still love some Classic Rock and Metal, but as I've gotten older, my musical tastes have also branched out quite a bit. One of the common threads in songs that I really love, though, regardless of their genre, is whether or not I can connect them with Randall in some way. My absolute favorites are songs that deal with redemption and finally conquering one's "inner demons", so to speak, and reconciling with those whom you have done wrong and those who have done wrong to YOU.
One such song that really says "RANDALL" very loud and clear to me is David Cook's "Time of My Life"; listen to it and read the lyrics, and see if you don't picture Randall happy at last with himself, since that's what it will take before he can ever be happy with anyone else:
There are a couple of songs by Gary Allan that remind me of Randall, "Life Ain't Always Beautiful" and "Along the Way"; in fact, the latter was the inspiration for a recent piece of Randall fanart I did. I'm not sure if I've posted the first one here already or not, but here goes:
I can picture that second one with him finally sitting down and talking to an older Boo, since she is the main one he'd probably feel guilt over how he treated her. She was, after all, completely innocent in the whole debacle, not old enough to understand what was going on or make decisions at her age.
If you want something edgier, here's an oldie but a goodie, the classic Blues song, "Sinner's Prayer", by the late Lowell Fulson, as performed by singer Beth Hart and the incomparable Blues-Rock guitar icon, Joe Bonamassa:
And another Country song on the theme of redemption, "Let It Go" by Tim McGraw; even though I know most of you don't listen to Country, give these songs a try:

I like deep songs like that to begin with....I think the reason why we like Randall is at least partially why we also like these songs....we relate to them in some way or another, just like we relate to Randall in some way.
There's actually a song called WINDS OF CHANGE even that reminds me of Randall:

Not really a Randall song, though… Unless they make a sequel where monsters fight international communism, hehe ;D

For some reason this dark song, originally conceived as Disney parody, is one of the songs that can get me through even the hardest times in life. If there ever has been a song that Randall really should've listened to, it must be this one.
Enjoy the iconic Monty Python's Always Look on the Bright Side of Life, performed at a sold-out the Royal Albert Hall.

For some reason this dark song, originally conceived as Disney parody, is one of the songs that can get me through even the hardest times in life. If there ever has been a song that Randall really should've listened to, it must be this one. Yay, can't go wrong with a bit of Monty Python! And yes, Randall certainly could've done with a listen of this song. I think I have quite, uh, unique tastes in music...Aside from listening to a bit of jazz and blues on the odd occasion (I'm a massive fan of Cab Calloway in particular) most of the music I like is very, er, dancey and upbeat and synthesised. I also admit to liking dubstep. (...Please don't judge me! Haha.) However, even in these genres there are definitely some songs that remind me of Randall, big time. One of my favourites is a song by Chase & Status that really captures Randall's aggression and passion and determination, so I guess if it represents him at a particular time, it would be at the beginning of MI (or before)- when he's still on the up, when he's a bit richardy and arrogant, that sort of thing. Also, the lyrics: "I move like water, I go with the flow..." Just reminds me of the scene where Randall crawls over the SE control panel. The song in general, to me, represents the persona that Randall tries to give off, as a confident and self-assured guy who doesn't have any problems- as the song says, "it's no problem for me, but it's a problem for YOU." (Oh, and if anyone has an aversion to flashing lights, it might be best to not watch the video itself as it gets a bit crazy, haha). Another song that, to me, represents Randall's darker side is Rabbit in Your Headlights by Radiohead. I think of it being quite suiting for that moment when Randall gets thrown into the Human World- he's in shock, he's quite literally a rabbit in the headlights, he doesn't quite know what to do in that moment before the woman gets her shovel. And then the lyrics: "If you're frightened of dyin' and you're holding on... You'll see devils tearing your life away. But...if you've made your peace, Then the devils are really angels..." Randall clearly hasn't made his peace, so I'm just seeing this image of demons tearing at him... Sorry for being so depressing! Haha. But here's the song:
