The problem with dubstep is that it is fairly easy to make, so it attracts too many subpar musicians, which flood the internet with their creations, thus giving the genre a bad name. Although most of the bands I like fall either into rock, metal or "new age" genres, I honestly believe that there are only three kinds of music, regardless of genres: good, bad and boring. Also, HOW COULD HAVE I FORGOTTEN? When you mentioned dubstep and Radiohead, I immediately had an association with Muse, their 2nd Law album, and their official 2012 Summer Olympics Song titled Survival. I think "our boy" would definitely appreciate it

Promised in another thread to post it here. Funny how well does it go with the song you posted, mintygreen ;D
I couldn't find appropriate youtube video to go along with it, so if you don't know Pink Floyd's opus Shine On You Crazy Diamond, check it out. Heck, check out the whole Wish You Were Here album, it's worth it. Now, with everyone buzzing about MU, it's impossible for me to listen to the song and not think about Randall.
Shine on You Crazy Diamond
Side 1
Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun. Shine on you crazy diamond! Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky. Shine on you crazy diamond! You were caught on the crossfire of childhood and stardom, blown on the steel breeze. Come on you target for faraway laughter, come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine!
You reached for the secret too soon, you cried for the moon. Shine on you crazy diamond! Threatened by shadows at night, and exposed in the light. Shine on you crazy diamond! Well you wore out your welcome with random precision, rode on the steel breeze. Come on you raver, you seer of visions, come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine!
Side 2
Nobody knows where you are, how near or how far. Shine on you crazy diamond! Pile on many more layers and I'll be joining you there. Shine on you crazy diamond! And we'll bask in the shadow of yesterday's triumph, and sail on the steel breeze. Come on you boy child, you winner and loser, come on you miner for truth and delusion, and shine!
*** The point there, of course, is that diamonds don't shine on their own; something has to shine on them. –––
Oh, and speaking of numbness, here is an excerpt from PF's "Comfortably Numb" that fits Randall like a well-made shoe:
When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse, Out of the corner of my eye. I turned to look but it was gone. I cannot put my finger on it now. The child is grown, the dream is gone. I have become comfortably numb.

I think this song could easily become the anthem of Randall's fans Rodriguez's "I Wonder" I wonder how many times you've been had And I wonder how many plans have gone bad I wonder how many times you had sex And I wonder do you know who'll be next I wonder I wonder wonder I do
I wonder about the love you can't find And I wonder about the loneliness that's mine I wonder how much going have you got And I wonder about your friends that are not I wonder I wonder wonder I do
I wonder about the tears in children's eyes And I wonder about the soldier that dies I wonder will this hatred ever end I wonder and worry my friend I wonder I wonder wonder don't you?
I wonder how many times you been had And I wonder how many dreams have gone bad I wonder how many times you had sex And I wonder do you know who'll be next I wonder I wonder wonder I doOh, and those you haven't done so yet: go see the Oscar winning Searching for Sugar Man ! Awesome movie and even better music.

Touch of the Master's Hand. I sang it once... even had an actual violinist come up and play one stanza of "Amazing Grace" for emphasis before resuming, when the value changes. Yes, that reminds me of Randall Boggs.

I'm surprised no one's suggested 'In the End' by Linkin Park. That's the song that reminds me of Randall most. Several other songs also make me think of Randall but to a lesser extent.

I just sang 'Touch of the Master's Hand' for my second time at church today! Again... hard not to think of Randall... or Severus Snape, for that matter.
Excerpt from song: "Now, you know many a man with a life out of tune is battered and scarred with sin, and he's auctioned cheap to a thankless world, much like the old violin. Then the Master comes, and the foolish crowd, they never understand.... the worth of a soul and the change that's wrought by the touch of the Master's hand."

Well, it's not a song, but the last time I got finished seeing 'Monsters, Inc.', the Harry Potter track "Dumbledore's Farewell" permeated my mind. One the one hand, the music mourns Dumbledore's death, but on the other hand, it mourns the fact that Snape actually was obeying Dumbledore's own wishes by killing him, and he's now reviled by the entire Wizarding World as a traitor, when in actuality, he's the ONLY individual left who knows the truth on how Harry must defeat Voldemort.

The end credits song for THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG, "I See Fire" - performed by Ed Sheeran.
Now, granted... specific references to Durin's son, and the mountainside of the Lonely Mountain is totally, 100% Middle-earth, but consider these lyrics, specifically when pondering Randall's horrific banishment at the end of the second film:
If this is to end in fire... ...then we shall all burn together. Watch the flames climb high... ...into the night. Calling out, father... ...stand by and we will watch the flames burn auburn on the mountainside.
As well as these lyrics:
Oh, should my people fall... ...then surely I'll do the same. Confined in mountain halls, we got too close to the flames. Calling out, father... ...stand by and we will watch the flames burn auburn on the mountainside.
SUBTEXT lyrics:
"WE HAVE YOU! WE HAVE YOU! COME BACK AFTER A LONG WAIT TO SEE THE STORY CONCLUSION....."
If ONLY Mike could reach the point where he could say like Bilbo: "What have we done?", regarding Randall. It's safe to say that Randall's had his own "Unexpected Journey" and "Desolation" chapters throughout "Monsters University" and "Monsters, Inc.", so NOW... Randall needs his "There and Back Again" story, I reckon! LOL

I bet I responded already but things change over the years, so ...
"Monster Love" by Goldfrapp
"Chameleon Boy" by Blue October
and
"Getting Scared" by Imogen Heap
