Adding two more songs to my list, I will not bow by Breaking Benjamin and What a Shame by Shinedown. Before leaving for work this morning, I made time to listen to the Shinedown song on YouTube, and boy, did you ever hit the nail on the head with THAT one, Mistica! The chorus, especially, is Randall to the core. pitbulllady

Thanks Pitbulllady, it's one of my favorite songs off of their "Sound of Madness" cd. The lyrics do remind me of Randall along with other characters I like as well such as Shadow and Gaara. That song would make a pretty good amv on Youtube now that I think about it. Too bad I can't do stuff like that though but it still would be pretty cool. ;D

Breaking benjamin are great Mistica. A good Randall song from them is 'unknown soldier' Here's the song on youtube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9HoIPCWGsYUnknown Soldier" Border line, Dead inside. I don't mind, Falling to pieces. Count me in, violent Let's begin, feeding the sickness. How do I simplify, Dislocate - the enemy's on the way. [Chorus:] Show me what it's like To dream in black and white, So I can leave this world tonight. Full of fear, Ever clear. I'll be here, Fighting forever. Curious, Venomous, You'll find me Climbing to heaven. Never mind, Turn back time. You'll be fine - I will get left behind. [Chorus] Holding on too tight. Breathe the breath of life, So I can leave this world behind. It only hurts just once. They're only broken bones. Hide the hate inside. Oh. [Very quiet voice:] Forever ... one I'll be fine [Chorus] Holding on too tight. Breathe the breath of life, So I can leave this world behind

Was listening earlier today to Numan's "Cold Metal Rhythm", which basically summarizes the anger the musician (and, in my opinion, Randall) felt at the time:
"Radio station Thank you for nothing I like this anger And I won't forget
This isn't love It's more like a need I'm a cold metal junkie And I need the cure"

Right now, the sort of music that most reminds me of Randall are songs which have the theme of redemption, overcoming the odds, and defeating one's personal demons and changing one's outlook from negative to positive, usually through the intervention of and unconditional love of another individual. I'd like to think of this situation as describing how Randall ultimately winds up, rather than as an the angry, bitter person he is in the movie, raising his fist against the rest of the universe. I listen to a wide variety of musical genres, so the songs that tend to remind me of how I'd most love to see Randall wind up also tend to be quite varied. Two of the more-recent additions to the "songs that remind me of Randall" category include David Cook's "Time of My Life" and the latest release from Country group, Rascal Flatts, "Unstoppable".
Here are the lyrics to "Time of My Life"(NOT to be confused with the Dirty Dancing soundtrack song of the same title):
I've been waiting for my dreams to turn into sumthing, i couldnt believe in and, looking for the magic rainbow On the horizon I couldn't see it Until I let go Gave into love and watched all the bitterness burn Now I'm coming alive Body and soul And feelin' my world start to turn
And I'll taste every moment And live it out loud I know this is the time, This is the time To be more than a name Or a face in the crowd I know this is the time This is the time of my life Time of my life
Holding onto things that vanished Into the air Left me in pieces But now I'm rising from the ashes Finding my wings And all that I needed Was there all along Within my reach As close as the beat of my heart
and I'll taste every moment And live it out loud I know this is the time, This is the time to be More than a name Or a face in the crowd I know this is the time This is the time of my life Time of my life
And I'm out on the edge of forever Ready to run I'm keeping my feet on the ground My arms open wide My face to the sun
I'll taste every moment And live it out loud I know this is the time, This is the time to be More than a name Or a face in the crowd I know this is the time This is the time of my life Time of my life More than a name Or a face in the crowd I know This is the time This is the time of my life. This is the time of my life.
Here are the lyrics to the Rascal Flatts song, "Unstoppable":
So, so you made a lot of mistakes Walked down the road a little sideways Cracked a rib when you hit the wall Yeah, you've had a pocket full of regrets Pull you down faster than a sunset Hey, it happens to us all
When the cold hard rain just won't quit And you can't see your way out of it
CHORUS You find your faith has been lost and shaken You take back what's been taken Get on your knees and dig down deep You can do what you think is impossible Keep on believing, don't give in It'll come and make you whole again It always will, it always does Love is unstoppable
Love, it wear the ring of stone Bring you back to being born again oh, it's a helping hand when you need it most A lighthouse shining on the coast That never goes dim
When your heart is full of doubt And you think that there's no way out
CHORUS
Like a river keeps on rolling Like the north wind blowing Don't it feel good knowing Yeah
CHORUS
Love is unstobbale So you made a lot of mistakes Walked down the road a little sideways Love, love is unstoppable
Now, within the "Connections" universe, there's always been one song that to me, sums up everyone's situation, and that's Gary Allan's "Life Ain't Always Beautiful", a bittersweet tribute to life's ups and downs:
Life ain't always beautiful Sometimes it's just plain hard Life can knock you down, it can break your heart
Life ain't always beautiful You think you're on your way And it's just a dead end road at the end of the day
But the struggle makes you stronger And the changes make you wise And happiness has it's own way of takin' it sweet time
[chorus] No,life aint always beautiful Tears will fall sometimes Life aint always beautiful But it's a beautiful ride
Life aint always beautiful Some days I miss your smile I get tired of walkin' all these lonely miles
And I wish for just one minute I could see your pretty face Guess I can dream, but life dont work that way
But the struggles makes me stronger And the changes make me wise And happiness has it's own way of takin' its sweet time
No, life aint always beautiful But I know I'll be fine Hey, life aint always beautiful But its a beautiful ride What a beautiful ride
Yeah, I know most of y'all don't listen to Country music, and I used to hate it myself, mainly because I didn't want to be stereotyped as a "redneck", being from the South, but as I got older and started really listening to some of the lyrics, it just "clicked" for me. I know you can find the last song and the first on YouTube; don't know if the Rascal Flatts song is up on there yet or not since it's a brand-new release, so you can listen to them if you'd like.

I don't know why, but Skillet's 'Monster' made me think of Randall. Ha-ha.. www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRw_iKci7hE&feature=relatedthe secret side of me i never let you see i keep it caged but i can´t control it so stay away from me the beast is ugly i feel the rage and i just can´t hold it it´s scratchin on the walls in the closet in the halls it comes awake and i can´t control it hidin under the bed in my body in my head why won´t somebody come and save me from this make it end CHORUS: i feel it deep within it´s just beneath the skin i must confess that i feel like a monster i hate what i´ve become the nightmare´s just begun i must confess that i feel like a monster i feel like a monster V2 my secret side i keep hid under lock and key i keep it caged but i can´t control it cause if i let him out he´ll tear me up break me down why won´t somebody come and save me from this make it end bridge: its hidin in the dark its teeth are razor sharp there´s no escape for me it wants my soul it wants my heart no one can hear me scream maybe its just a dream or maybe its inside of me stop this monster

I listened to the last song pbl. Really sweet one. Easy to listen to in the background. Oddly it kind of sums up what I sometimes REALLY like to read/write in oneshot terms too- basically a piece of happiness and hope just for a moment, in a time/place where there is none or little of it or there hasn't been much for a while. Though of course I do write angst/humour too. Used to hate country music too- my dad listened to it all the time, but somehow after Cars if began to grow on me a bit more. I can find some songs I like. I kind of found my tastes have grown wider then when I was a teenager, and I hear that happens a lot. Edit: 'Monster' by Skillet is also great.

Found THIS songs only as lyrics.... but what is the song name? Who sings it? Well they're called switchfoot (never heard of them until now). Not sure of the song title. But the lyrics are pretty golden. Good for my story in general but Randall in particular and in general for redemption stories.
Welcome to the planet Welcome to existence Everyone's here Everyone's here Everybody's watching you now Everybody waits for you now What happens next What happens next
[Chorus] I dare you to move I dare you to move I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor I dare you to move I dare you to move Like today never happened Today never happened before
Welcome to the fallout Welcome to resistance The tension is here Tension is here Between who you are and who you could be Between how it is and how it should be
[Chorus]
Maybe redemption has stories to tell Maybe forgiveness is right where you fell Where can you run to escape from yourself? Where you gonna go? Where you gonna go? Salvation is here
I dare you to move I dare you to move I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor I dare you to move I dare you to move Like today never happened Today never happened Today never happened Today never happened before

Oh, 'I Dare You To Move' is a good one by Switchfoot. 'Meant to Live' is another good one by them, but I'm not sure if that's a Randall-y song or not. Kinda makes me think of Sulley actually.

Gary Allan is one of those singers who sings from the heart and from experience. He recorded that song after his first wife committed suicide, and like a lot of singers/recording artists, he's had problems with drugs and alchohol himself. I believe it was Blues artist Howlin' Wolf who once said, "if you ain't lived the Blues, you can't PLAY the Blues", and that can be applied very much to Country music as well. When I hear "Life Ain't Always Beautiful", that line about, " ...you think you're on your way, but it's just a dead-end road at the end of the day" makes me think of Randall and his big dreams of fame and fortune, of being the one who ends the energy crisis and "revolutionizes the Scaring Industry" and finally earns the respect he's been so desperate for. The lines about "missing your pretty face" makes me think of Sulley, searching for Boo after all these years, refusing to give up, and the way that both he and Randall wind up becoming better for their struggles. pitbulllady

It's a great song in the end. I've come more to see that there's usually at least ONE song I can find I can like in any genre. Get ready Vanessie... I've even heard one by Mily Cyrus which... wasn't so bad. She sung it with a Jonas brother too. DUNDUNDUN -thunder-crack- (Hate me!) Anyway. Another possible Sulley or Randall song is this one. Sort of. Bits could be Sulley thinking about Boo and her expectations as she grows older might drive him to fix things- like the first verse about him disappointing her... maybe. And Randall in general maybe to anyone (but maybe Boo too), and heck maybe to each other a bit... because I once again like the idea of those three reconciling. Anyway: www.youtube.com/watch?v=r35yw6iqXU4The Reason" I'm not a perfect person There's many things I wish I didn't do But I continue learning I never meant to do those things to you And so I have to say before I go That I just want you to know I've found out a reason for me To change who I used to be A reason to start over new and the reason is you I'm sorry that I hurt you It's something I must live with everyday And all the pain I put you through I wish that I could take it all away And be the one who catches all your tears Thats why i need you to hear I've found out a reason for me To change who I used to be A reason to start over new and the reason is You and the reason is You [x3] I'm not a perfect person I never meant to do those things to you And so I have to say before I go That I just want you to know I've found out a reason for me To change who I used to be A reason to start over new and the reason is you I've found a reason to show A side of me you didn't know A reason for all that I do And the reason is you (by Hoobastank, I believe.)

Man, how could I have forgotten "The Reason"? When that song first came out years ago, I immediately thought of Randall and a much-older Boo, and him trying to explain to her what had happened, feeling all guilty about it.

Um, Randall in a romantic relationship perhaps? Or the possible beginnings of one anyway/just before you know he's sealed the deal? Don't look at me like that! What? It's a fun song! www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAjfB0XfjkA'Save the last dance'- Michael Buble Well you can dance Every dance with the guy Who gives you the eye Let him hold you tight And you can smile Every smile for the man Who held your hand 'Neath the pale moonlight But don't forget who's taking you home And in whose arms you're gonna be So darling, save the last dance for me Oh I know That the music's fine Like sparkling wine Go and have your fun Laugh and sing But while we're apart Don't give your heart To anyone And don't forget who's taking you home And in whose arms you're gonna be So darling, save the last dance for me Baby, don't you know I love you so Can't you feel it when we touch I will never, never let you go I love you, oh so much You can dance Go and carry on Till the night is gone And it's time to go If he asks If you're all alone Can he walk you home You must tell him no Cause don't forget who's taking you home And in whose arms you're gonna be Save the last dance for me Oh I know That the music's fine Like sparkling wine Go and have your fun Laugh and sing But while we're apart Don't give your heart To anyone And don't forget who's taking you home And in whose arms you're gonna be So darling, save the last dance for me So don't forget who's taking you home Or in who's arms you're gonna be So darling save the last dance for me Oh baby, won't you save the last dance for me Ooh, you make a promise That you'll save the last dance for me Save the last dance The very last dance For me Sorry, I just thought of Randall possibly with someone like this, I mean before he's technically with them though. Maybe. -hangs head-

I had to laugh at you putting Michael Buble's name on that song, lol. This is an old song, a classic of the genre we call "Beach Music" here in the South, first recorded by South Carolina native Bill Pinkney and The Drifters in 1960. Here's the original, which I like much better. You can't shag that well to the new version. OH, and y'all folks across the ocean can get your minds out of the gutter; the "Shag" is the official state dance of South Carolina! www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-XQ26KePUQpitbulllady
