I have two snakes- a corn and a sand boa. The sand boa's face is cute and chubby looking, but he's hungry all the time and he'll nip my finger if I mess with him ... The corn snake acts like a cobra, but she's pretty nice =) I need to handle them more ... The corn snake- we thought she was caught by the cats but we found her outside in winter, and my Dad mistaken her for a shoelace (she's albino ^^) Lucky snake

Sand Boas tend to be a bit nippy, anyway, hungry or not, but they sure are cute with those funny little heads. Corns, especially Okeetees, are some of the most beautiful snakes, or animals, period-around. It would be difficult for me to say what my favorite snakes are, though I tend to be very fond of Coachwihps, which many snake people don't like.

I dunno...he/she looks pretty darn cute to ME! ;D Is it that most snake people have a problem with the coachwhip's temperment, or something like that? ~Light Rises

Yeah, THAT little dude...although they actually get to be quite LONG dudes, up to 8 ft! They have an undeserved reputation for having nasty dispositions, being nervous and not eating in captivity, but I haven't found that to be true. Like most wild snakes, they will strike and musk in self-defense when first captured, but quickly seem to figure out that you aren't going to hurt them, so they quit biting. Most of the ones I've had, both Eastern and Western(the one in the pic is a normal-phase Western), eat mice like there's no tomorrow. There are few snakes any prettier than a red-phase Western Coachwhip.

Well, I guess that's just further proof that "patience really IS a virtue," huh? There are few snakes any prettier than a red-phase Western Coachwhip. pitbulllady Ooooo...really? *does another Google search* Whoa...I probably need to find a better, full-body shot, but still...whoa... ~Light Rises

See what I mean? THAT is a pretty snake-I can't see how anyone can find this ugly or scary(unless you're a rodent, that is). I once found a really good full-body pic of a red Coachwhip on Google, so I'll check to see if I can find it again. I used to have one, but it died following a winter storm power outage, when the temp in my house dropped down to the upper '40s.

Wow...how can people call snakes ugly or evil? It doesn't make any sense! I mean, the only creatures in the entire world that I don't really like are insects, but even some o' those can be nice. If only people could look beyond the steotype.

Well...other monsters hold an age-old grudge against reptiles..... But I don't know. Since many people believed in Religion, especially in the Dark Ages and around the Rencouinse (err), maybe that lie about the "snake and the apple" was told to everyone....
I remember my past English teacher, the one who wanted me to publish Randall's story in the paper, had a disliking (not hate) toward snakes. I talked to her about it, mentioning Pitbulllady's talk about them having more feeling sensors than humans (toothpick=hammer). She seemed to understand....gives me hope in this cruel world....
Jeez..... WHY CAN'T PEOPLE JUST ABIDE BY THEM!? I MEAN COME ON!!!!!

Most people don't even realize that in the Book of Genesis, in the original language of Aramaic, the word for the creature that tempted Eve in the Garden was NOT that language's word for "snake" or any other known animal. The word had no equivalent in any other language. During translation from Aramaic to Hebrew to Greek to Latin and eventually to Old English(the King James version), the word "serpent" was eventually substituted, and as I've said before, even though it's from the Latin "serpentinus", meaning "snake", the meaning at the time of King James of England was many-fold. It could mean ANY air-breathing, scaly creature, including those that lived in water. Nonetheless, that word has come to have negative consequences for all reptiles, and snakes in particular, throughout Western civilization. I, as a Christian, particularily hate it when people use the Bible to back up their own hates and prejudices, since it gives Faith in general a bad name. I personally find it very difficult to imagine Jesus beating a helpless animal to death with a farm implement, anymore than I can picture Him owning slaves or kicking women out of the temple.

That's why I said "lie". Do right!
Pity....the reptiles are always hated by many....some do, in turn, respect them.....but will it change?

What puzzles ME, though, is the fact that "serpent" was choosen as a translation for the original Aramaic word in the first place; unless that was somehow the closest translation, the fact that that particular word was chosen for the King James version doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. ~Light Rises
