Okay, you guys know that I'm as good as new to the MI fandom, having abandoned it swiftly back in The Day. But I hadn't told you exactly why I had abandoned it. Can you guess? Because I *dared* to choose Randall as my favorite character. Yes, I clearly just found myself on the wrong discussion boards at the wrong times; I can see now, even having probably missed the fandom's heyday, that there were and are many Randall fans - but I had the misfortune of daring to suggest on a public forum that Randall didn't deserve what he got, that Sulley and Mike were committing what really could have easily amounted to cold-blooded murder, and that was NOT okay. Yes, Randall and Waternoose banished them first, but that doesn't make it NOT horriffic that Sulley and Mike did the same thing. And you know what? "He deserved it" doesn't cut it with me. Again, I am new to this fandm. I have missed the years of you guys and your ilk defending Randall not only on speciallised boards like this one but also on general MI boards, and in fanfic, and whatever. I am not up to date with all the arguments and discussions and again, the fanfics, the fanart, the online Randall-shrines. I had chosen to remove myself completely from the fandom because I so completely could not believe that anyone would think that Randall's fate in MI was anything other than horriffic and coldblooded and totally unnecessary. I actually have had people, young and old, look at me wearing my (now-deceased though I may still have it) Randall watch and exclaim "But he's EVIL OMGLOLLERZ!!!one!!" (okay so I tend to project that last bit in mentally, it amuses me). Anyways. So, yeah. I like Randall, and I don't think everything is automatically "his fault" - the movie did make a point of saying that Waternoose was behind it all. And yet, Waternoose sits somewhere in a white-collar prison no doubt, while Randall..? I'm sure Disney wants us to believe that he survived but holy shmoley. The trailer scene still gives me the collywobbles. I realise that's supposed to be funny and, as a former writing for animation student, I am capable of stepping back and seeing it that way, but the moment I switch my brain on again it stops being amusing. IT'S HORRIBLE AND NOT FUNNY AT ALL. (I won't bring up any other fandoms in this post but we all know that this sort of scene happens a lot, where its "funny" and acceptable because its a villain.) And um, time to go back to work.

Actually, you've pretty much hit the nail on the head -- this is EXACTLY our sentiments regarding Randall's exile and the fact that "everything isn't automatically his fault" since the SE was Waternoose's plan in the first place. And yeah, we've gotten plenty of flak for this on other message boards too -- particularly on IMdb -- hearing all the same lame arguments in Mike and Sulley's defense that you mentioned. *shakes head* I'm so sorry you've had to deal with so many dunderheaded M.I. fans who can't seem to understand the whole "Two wrongs don't make a right!" logic. The good news is, though, that now you're in VERY good company (and most of those other forums are no longer active to boot). ~Light Rises

Oh, believe me, I know EXACTLY where you are coming from, Sparky! I've written many a long and impassioned volume in Randall's defense of IMDb! What is even more disturbing that people just hating Randall, though, is the fact that so many, especially young people, believe that revenge IS OK, that's it is perfectly acceptible, that if someone does YOU wrong, for you to turn around and do something twice as bad to them. Ideed, you should feel obligated to do so! The phrase "two wrongs don't make a right" is completely lost on many in today's society. Yet, not one can tell me of any problem that has ever been solved, and not made worse, by "getting even with 'em-ism". The driving force behind the rampant gang violence in the US is due to the "hit 'em back" mentality, and just look at the situation in the Middle East, in Israel and Palastine especially.
I will whole-heartedly agree, and I have had legal experts concur with me on this, that what Mike and Sulley did would amount to pre-meditated murder, FIRST-DEGREE murder in some states, including my state of South Carolina. It is immaterial that Randall had first tried, unsuccessfully, to kill them. No law in any state, and probably not in any civilized nation, would give them the right to act as judge, jury and executioners, which is what they did. They were nothing more than vigilantes, plain and simple. No one can argue that they threw Randall into the Human World in self-defense, since he had already been defeated and was no longer even fighting them, not even to save HIS life, but had given up and accepted defeat. He was no longer a threat, period. They had to have taken time to discuss what to do with him and to find an appropriate door, and make a big deal out of throwing him into it. No one can argue that they did it to protect Boo, either, not if they were indeed planning on putting HER back through her door, into the Human World. If Sulley feared that Randall might still be a threat to her, WHY the HECK put HIM into the same world with Boo? Wouldn't that INCREASE the chances that he and Boo would meet again? Unless, of course, Sulley was reasonably certain that Randall would be quickly killed once HE was thrown into the Human World, which automatically entails a powerful legal arguement of "INTENT"-answering that important question, "did Sulley and Mike INTEND for Randall to be killed when they tossed him into the Human World?" If even the slightest evidence suggest that at that time, they did, AND it could be established that worse did indeed happen to Randall, at the very least they would both be facing mandatory life in prison with no chance of parole, and in MY state, Florida, and certain others, capital punishment. A legal expert I brought up this particular subject with put it this way: If someone is ordered to kill me, and attacks me, but I'm able to defeat them and thwart their attack, and THEN *I* take this person, who's still alive but no longer attempting to harm me, to an interstate overpass and toss them over into the path of oncoming traffic, *I* am the one now guilty of murder. It didn't matter that they had once done something to ME, and it didn't matter that *I* wasn't the one driving the car that hit them. What matters is that I had to have had some time to plan what I was going to do with them(pre-meditation), and I had to have known that they would likely be killed when I threw them over the rail, if not by the fall itself then surely by oncoming traffic(intent), so therefore it is First-Degree murder! This is basically what Mike and Sulley did, although instead of an overpass and traffic, they chose a doorway into the Human World and humans that they probably knew were going to be at home, and were going to react violently to the presence of something like Randall. It makes no difference, legally, that neither of them weilded that shovel, anymore so than it would matter that I wasn't driving that lethal car.
I'm also not sure if Pixar or Disney wants us to think that Randall was killed, or not. For a long time I tried to dismiss it and assume that they wanted us to think he got away, but after "The Incredibles", in which it is very obvious that they wanted us to believe that Buddy was killed, and in a very gruesome manner, I'm not so sure. The fact that they had that particular trailer located in a Louisiana bayou, and the people(or at least the kid)just happened to be Cajuns, and had the people mistake Randall for a "gator" makes me think otherwise, since it is widely known that alligator meat is a dietary staple in south Louisiana! We are supposed to THINK that Randall was beaten to death, butchered and eaten, an even more-gruesome and painful fate than that of Buddy in "The Incredibles", even though Randall was in fact as much a victim of Waternoose's plan as those children were to have been.

I hate that I've missed all the discussions over the years. I hate that I've had no one to accept my point of view at all regarding this and always been told that I was wrong and to quit thinking about it. It's really rather hard to not think about it, imho, and I never had any idea why I couldn't find someone else who agreed with me. Bless you guys.

To believe only a PIECE of the true event that we seen had sparked such things.... True....Randall was a pawn....but I am always serverly ANGERED that NO ONE, excluding those that dig into the truth *cough* Us *cough*...says it was WATERNOOSE who did all of this...
Well....he didn't really do all of it...seeing as the Scream Shortage was Scare Co.'s choice....but in any case.....Waternoose USED who he wanted....and faintly enough....it had to be someone with scales...
Even now Sparks....we're still digging in....As the months pass....we come up with new ideas....heck....I've come up with allot of different information that we all analyze, discuss, and sometimes (if we can), conclude on..... There's still allot we don't understand....and still learning....
There's a deeper world here that those fools don't care to look into..... Heh heh....how ignorant they are...

Well, you're here now, and think of the countless Randall fans out there who will never be able to access this board, for one reason or another. Believe me, we're all on the same side on this board, because although we may be from different places and we may look and think differently to each other, there's a bond that holds us all together- that bond being a Randall fan. ;D
