Is it Italian? Or Spanish? Or Portugese? Sounds something like that... I'd have to hear it pronounced to know for sure (I'm fascinated by etymology and pronounciation ^_^ ).

It's a Italian! good guess!!!!! Yay, we're Itlalian surname buddies! Mine isn't hard to spell or anything, but people always end up saying it like 'GRIME-a' instead of GREEMa.' Especially at our school's award ceremonies. I even change the spelling of my name on the sheet so they pronounce it phonetically, and they STILL get it wrong! |

Nobody can pronounce my last name either - it's pronounced like "markewits" (which, now that I think about it, sounds a lot like "mark [h]er wits", as in "watch out for her wit".... ;D), and lots of people write it down that way, or else go "m-a-r-k-WHAT?!" when I give my name. -_-;
('Course, the original pronouncation of Markewicz is supposed to be something like "mar-KAY-vich" or something, but when my grandparents immigrated to Canada they dropped several vowels and anglisized it.)

That reminds me of the surname Malkovich. Like in that film... ;D Which film is that? You know, that name in turn reminds me of another film, "Erin Brocovich" (a very good one, by the way) |
