Well, I wouldn't know, because I ran out and bought the Collector's Edition Blu-Ray/DVD combo...only to get home, and find out that my USB Blu-Ray player had died on me since the last time I played it. Wanna guess what format all the extras are on? I can watch just the movie on the DVD, but not the extras. I went ahead and ordered a new player from Amazon, but it won't arrive for another two days. I'm half a mind to go back to Wal-Mart tomorrow and get just the DVD Collector's Edition, so I can watch the extras anyway, plus getting two copies will drive up the sales stats and help put MU near the top of Pixar's movies in terms of sales.

Speaking of the DVD being released, someone on IMDb posted that Target is advertizing a "special edition" exclusive just for their stores with an extra that does not appear on any of the other DVD's or Blu-Rays, entitled "College Days". Does anyone have the Target version, and what is the deal with that particular extra? I was wondering if that was worth purchasing an additional copy from Target.

I'm curious as to what "College Days" is. (I doubt it has anything to do with Randall but I still wanna know more.) I checked with Target.com, and sure enough, they DO list this in their "Target Exclusives", this version with "College Days" on it. I don't know if that exclusive can only be purchased online, or in stores, though. The nearest Target store is about 35 miles away from me. There's no indication as to exactly what "College Days" is about-if it's about the MU characters and stuff going on that we didn't see in the movie, or about the college days of the Pixar folks who made the movie, or what. I would really like to know before I go out and purchase it. No offense to Scanlon and the other Pixarians, but I am not sure that watching them comment on and show pics or old video of them in college is worth buying a whole new copy of the Blu-Ray, especially since I just had to buy a new Blu-Ray USB player and am awaiting its arrival tomorrow, but if it showed more of Randall or the ROR's especially than what we see in MU, maybe a "blooper reel", then yeah, it would be worth it. pitbulllady

Happy Halloween! What a perfect time to see Monsters on DVD! XD Tell us if you find anything interesting Pitbulllady. So far I haven't gotten an answer from anyone who has the Target edition, and I am not going to run out and buy it unless I know that the "College Days" extra feature is worth it. If it's just something about the Pixar people in college(haven't got anything against them, but that's not why I'd buy another MU Blu-Ray)or even just more Mike and Sulley, that would not be worth an additional 24.00, not to me. If it hasn't got Randall, or at least Johnny and the ROR guys, I can't see spending that again. pitbulllady

Ok, I'm going to take a temporary step forward and give answers about the Target Exclusive. Not just because I'm Ran's researcher and what-not, but to save people money and time...
I've just purchased the Collector's Edition (DVD + BlueRay + Digital Copy), which came with the target exclusive. Now the exclusive IS on a separate disc in a little folder thing. It's College Days, as you know, and is 15 minutes. Now I realized I saved a bit on this (around $8) from the original price...and considering it's an important piece, I was able to splurge to get it.
Now...I'm wishing I got the version with the Wazowski Infinity figure (I already have Randall of course, beat the game to shreds with him, so need Wazowski to open the vaults). But oh well, what are you going to do.
In a nutshell, the extra is focused on the Pixar staff. How they went to college, observed the buildings/students/events and the like to portray in MU. There really...wasn't much other than that. Other than the snip-its from the actual film, Randall wasn't so much in it at all. The only new addition was a very short storyboard reel of a Scare Games competition event. It seemed to be about proceeding through several rooms (one door leads to the next and so on) and being quiet, avoiding creaky floorboards and such. It draws back from the...erm...the fraternity with the "female jocks", then to the RORs. Johnny is first in the row, like always....and strangely followed by Randall (who, if my memory served, was not "as detail" as the others, but was very recognizable because he was "smoother" than the rest of the RORs), with the others (such as Chet) coming up. (recall in the actual event, the Toxcicity Run, Randall was actually bringing up the rear).
Other than that, nothing on him (There MAY have been something of him in a short shot of an "art wall", but it would take time for me to analyze it).
So it was basically a telling of the staff talking about how they observed college life and how they portrayed it in the film. In a nutshell, not worth it to go overly out-of-your-way for.

Well, howdy there, stranger! Wondering when you'd drop in again! Thanks for that "heads-up", sounds like I might as well give it a miss, since it is what I suspected it would be: an account of some of the Pixarians' college days, and probably not much different from some of the same information on the edition I got at Wal-Mart, just in a different place and with a different title. I am pretty disappointed overall in the extra features on this movie. There are nowhere NEAR as many as on the original's. No games, no special attention given to the characters, no take-out reel or bonus scenes not seen in the movie, and no animated short feature, either, like we got with Mike's New Car, which was exclusive to the Collector's Edition of MI. Most of it focused on the Pixar people or how they came up with their ideas for the sets, etc. which is always neat to know, but I really was hoping for some fully animated scenes that we did not see in theaters, or a lot more about how they came up with the personalities for the characters beyond Mike and Sulley, or an animated short at least. I have not watched the movie with the animators' commentary yet, so that might provide some additional information, but then again, the one on the original movie was pretty misleading when it came to Randall, and very much off-target in light of MU. pitbulllady

I've taken an observatory stance right now for many a reason. However, I've not left the fandom (considering all I've done for it), and am still Randall's stalwart supporter. I just took a step forward for now because of the questionable nature of this material. I know how it is to be careful with your money and your time, and since I had the opportunity to assist by talking about this exclusive, I felt it was my duty to do so.
Yes, there wasn't much at all in that 15 minute segment (that's all that's on the disc). Just about them talking about well...what you generally know what Pixar does. It does it's homework. They went to campuses, watched the interactions of students, and threw it in. They actually didn't talk much about their own college days (most were just generalizations of college life or the proper "age of the time"). Just that pic of...Dan I think...and a mention of one of the writers "being a fraternity guy".
I've yet to go into anything other than the exclusive, but I was sort of "alerted" to some puzzlement when I looked on the back of the case. Normally, DVDs with a lot of extras list a few and then there's "and more!" or something along those lines. Not the case with this...well...case. They're all right there.
I've heard about the commentary from a very good friend of mine...he didn't go into details...but it seemed to be encouraging when he hinted about when Randall came in. I'm unsure when I'll get to the rest of the DVD and get an analysis done, but maybe this weekend, I don't know.

You will probably get to it before I do, since I've got a reptile show this weekend, first in far too long, and I really need to get some rats, but mostly I really need to get out of the house and talk with old friends I have not seen in like, forever it seems. There has been way too much negativity in my personal life lately and I am desperate for a change and some good news. Honestly I'd been putting off watching the commentary because I was afraid that they'd just be down on Randall all over again, but your last post gives me a little bit of hope.
I'm pretty sure I know what you mean about "questionable nature".

Probably. From the sound of it, there's not much to go through apparently, but I'll see if I can catch anything like I have before. The commentary, hopefully, will be the more incitement piece. Life shouldn't have negativity, unfortunately we don't live in ShouldLand. I'm not 100% on the commentary, would have to see myself, but from the sound of it from my friend it seems positive. At least they DO talk about him instead of just passing him off.
Questionable nature, for the material...as in if it was worth it. It's kind of a twisted marketing gag to put a specific addition to only one store or area (You listening Disney?). If I had known earlier, I would have gotten the Collector's edition with the figure since I only need that one to finish the vaults, would have saved me some cash there. But that's why I gave the info. Save some people time and money, like I, hopefully, did with that scam for MI's blueray.
