Ok, I've tried this once before a long way back, but I'm hoping to sorta do a reboot and make it more...umm...what's the word...efficient. With the release of MU coming up and the sheer POWER behind Randall on things (I mean lookatdat punim ^0^)...I'm inspired again.
So what is MI: The Series? Well here's the premise.
Premise: Set between Monsters University and Monsters Inc., MI: The Series tells the untold stories and lives of three particular monsters. It is the story of how James P. Sullivan became a Scarer, how Micheal Wazowski became his assistant (and form a relationship with Celia Mae), and the background and fall of Top Scarer Randall Boggs.
The story will be told, as far as I know myself, in comic-fashion. While writing may seem easier, you have to remember that description is pretty much handled in art (so it balances out, both still take work). Now I'm not 100% on this just yet. In the free time I get I'm trying to work up a process that allows me to make these with little effort (in terms of production-time, NOT in creativity or dedication) but still produce a fine enough product.
The series will, obviously be in episodes, and I will aim to try and make sure (with the exception of specific episodes) that Randall gets into the series as much as Sullivan and Wazowski are.
As noted by some (such as PBL), the REAL antagonism between Randall and Sullivan/Wazowski doesn't really happen till later on. So, at least for a majority of the show we'll see Randall in a much happier way. He's still got his issues and personal struggles with some matters, but he's NOT how he's seen in MI.
More info will come (along with "production pics") as time goes on and be altered according to information from MU (actually a future episode has been slated featuring someone from MU).
I just feel there are some stories that should be told. It's kind of sit-comish...and there is going to be humor of course, and there's going to be some dramatic bits (at least where Ran's concerned), and I hope to show it as best I can.
There's a lot of time between MU and MI...and I feel it should be looked at. It may be, by Pixar at some point if they pursue it, but for now, I got dibs! ;D

Ok! NOW have some material. As said, the series focuses mainly on three monsters....Sullivan, Wazowski, and of course, Randall. Each with their own drives, goals, trials, and stories....I think it will all come to an interesting tale when they clash together. Now, these are edited to exclude stuff about MU...they will be "finished" after it's release when I can actually put specific info up. But, they are in a general sense for now about what will be occurring in the series. Also, there IS some influence from material that HAS been seen before, but I won't say what because it might spoil something in the series... I've also included some pre-notes of myself of what I'll TRY to show in the episodes we'll see for each of them. As said before, the series will hopefully go full in production after the MU hype settles...but between now and then I might post some "glimpses" of episodes that can occur. But for now...meet the main guys! (by the way, NOW it's art!) ======================================== James P. Sullivan: After events at Monsters University leave Sulley and Mike as friends, he takes the lead in working them both up the ladder in Monsters Inc., starting in the mail-room. Aiming to leave his former selfish side behind, Sulley is friendly and optimistic, knowing that one day he will achieve his goal through hard work and determination. Series Creator Notes: Sullivan's story throughout the series is basically about him sticking with his own conviction to be a better person. In college, he was a jock who believed his status in life was already secure, but he's come to the realization that he needs to improve himself. He gets this opportunity by working from the bowels of Monsters Inc. to earn his way to a place on the Scare Floor. He considers his friendship with Mike as a reminder of who he was and that he could be this better person he's trying to become. As the story goes on, Sullivan literally works his way up the line and his interactions with others change and develop. Micheal Wazowski: After his reckless departure from Monsters University, Mike joins his furry friend in starting from the bottom and working the way up in Monsters Inc. Mike doesn't share Sulley's optimism, and is still reeling from his inability to become a Scarer. He hands in there, though, as a favor to Sulley for saving his life. Mike looks for any opportunity to improve his status in life, with Sulley as a close second. Series Creator Notes: Envy is a difficult thing to get rid of. While Mike has accepted that he can't be a Scarer, he still holds an inward grudge that he's incapable of being one. While Sullivan's story is about personally improving himself, Mike's is about satisfying an egotistical urge. Like Randall, Mike is dealing with an inadequacy that is fulfilled with successful endeavors. As such, Mike's stories mainly involve about him trying to get ahead any way he can. Sulley sometimes notices that Mike comes off selfish and forthcoming, but as a friend, and with what they've been through, tries to make whatever road Mike's on as easy as he can. Randall Boggs: Current Top Scarer of Monsters Inc. and a prodigy of the art, Randall is inwardly recovering from severe mental blows from his early college years. A hard worker, subtly friendly, Randall is not as social as previous holders of his position and comes off as a loner. Still, the Top Scarer has their duties, and Randall enjoys them. While he may come off self-obsessive and a bit of a gloater, few really get to know what is going on in the lizard monster's life. Series Creator Notes: Beneath the glitz and glamor of being a scare industry celebrity, Randall's using his position as a way to repair his shattered self-esteem. While not completely anti-social, Randall avoids any long term relationships when he can. Whenever he's in a group, for instance, he puts himself up as a third wheel. Randall's stories focus more on peering into what he's going through, what he's been through, and the inner struggles he faces. Lacking the ability to trust others, he fears, from experience, what may come if he does. Randall works on his own to fix the loose ends in his life, to reach a point that he can admit to himself, not others, that he truly feels happy with himself.

This looks great already, RB! And I totally agree, by the sounds of things it's what happens between MU and MI that needs to be told (as well as post-MI, of course). Looking forward to seeing what you do with this!

Wow somebody noticed...
Thanks. I've already got some information to work on. I know....the course I think Sullivan goes on...Randall's is easier...Wazowski's becomes easier at point. And we're looking at about...round about five years worth to tell here. There's a LOT that can happen.
Some episodes are being "brain dripped", as in they're being thrown out there to see if they're viable, and have some pretty good ones. Especially one concerning a person AT Monsters University (this will be an important episode for Randall)...
So yeah, I'm looking forward to try and make this. I had attempted before, but it was kind of sloppy. I've improved a little by sketching first, then using paint and well, seems to work. I really think MI could be a series, and we'll be seeing how things go.

Ok, dunno why I went for THIS scene, but oh well, it's safe enough. I've been doing sketch works for the series in what little spare time for it I get in preparation for launching the series proper. Looking over my research along with whatever I can get from my source...I've been getting ideas of what to show. Anyway...this is a little scene from "A Show Of Culture - Opera". Working title, but you can get an idea of what may be going on heheh. All I'll say for the moment is that Waternoose is dragging a certain somebody for publicity heh heh. I know what's going on in the scene, but I'll hold the lines for later. Might be fun seeing what people think is happening heh heh. Oh yeah, this is...kind how the final product is going to look like, at least I'm hoping so anyway... ==== ========== 1. Mike: The opera? I dunno...I like music, but isn't opera just a bunch of windbags yelling and shouting a lot? 2. Randall: How would I know? I'm not into that ritzy stuff. 3. Randall: But look, since I got you roped into this, I'll spot you the money for a rental. I already have a suit, but I'm guessing you don't. 4. Mike: I haven't really said "yes" you know. But could I like...scab my ticket? 5. Randall: Well come on, this is your chance to impress Waternoose. He's a rich guy, rich guys go to the opera. They have this cultural appreciation thing. He sees you there, he'll think you're cultural and sophisticated. 6/7 Silence. 8. Randall: I'm some-what confident you can fake it.

I can't quite figure out what's going on but it's looking good, RB! Your style has really progressed well. If the rest of the comics are going to look like this then, well, I'm very impressed!

Ok, figured to rustle up another new item. Not sure where this exactly comes up, as it's a regular thing, but maybe this is shown around the time of Randall's interview when he reached Top Scarer status... Randall: Autograph? Sure you lucky kid... "You know your somebody famous when you walk down the street and people know who you are, that's pretty much the obvious bit of it. I mean, I like the attention, but I've got my personal space, I'm not much for big crowds, it's just an issue with me. But if somebody walks up and wants me to take a picture or sign something that doesn't require lawyers *laughs* then I'm good for it. It's nice when people recognize the hard work you do, and every scarer works hard. Well, most of them anyway. I heard another famous actor I use to see on t.v. say that "when people stop paying attention, that's when you should worry" or something like that. It's probably true, but with the streak I'm on, I may not have to worry about that problem *laughs*" - Randall Boggs, newest Top Scarer of Monsters Inc. (originally broadcasted on Good Morning Monstropolis in early '96)

Ready To Scare! Entry from Scare Weekly '96"We caught up with Randall Boggs preparing out on the Scare Floor and managed to get an interview before security rushed us off!
"Scareing has been around for I don't know how long, probably forever to make things simple *laughs*. It's a part of history, part of tradition. All I know is, like most kids, I wanted to be one. To be a part of that long standing history that's made Monstropolis and the world what it is today. It wasn't easy, boy wasn't it, but I step out on that scarefloor every day ready to scare the living daylights out of those humans for the power everyday people, including myself, use. I love doing my job. I'm filling the need."
Mr. Boggs is seen here preparing to scare his first human child of the day! As known, this scarer's unique talent is his ability to become invisible and, indeed, scare the daylight out of those kids! Seen behind him is a custom built, by Boggs himself, "Multi-Blind" contraption that MI's Top Scarer uses to keep his talent primed and ready to collect those screams! We will be back next week where we will hopefully see scarers in action! But for now, we'll avoid a lawsuit by getting off an active scare floor! " -Daniel Flabbergast, interviewer
