I have an odd thing with Twilight to the point where I consider myself an anti-fan. I just can't stop hating it the way people can't stop loving it. I can debate it for hours. You know, I've read a lot of bad books before and I can put them aside, but there's simply too much in Twilight that makes me mad. To me, it's a series that glorifies the idea that your life should revolve around another person and if you can't find that person, then you're lacking something in life. It also romanticizes control and suicide. Not a good series for young girls to be reading at all!

I've read the first book and I've seen both the first and third movie.
The first book wasn't enjoyable to put it mildly. Granted, the only other vampire novels I've read since then are ones called 'The Historian' (where the authors name escapes me, but it was pretty good), also the vampire novel from Stephen King which was alright though nothing stellar and the classic 'Dracula' (which isn't as good as everyone says, not all that enjoyable any way). This came as a result of purple prose (which I know is tempting) as well as the fact the actions of the characters were inappropriate but there was no acknowledgement of this.
In short, it was less of a romance, more of a sick obsession. It might have been not half bad if the author acknowledged this (writing style not withstanding), but unfortunatly not. But in the end twilight isn't for me in the end. I can like romance, of course I can, but as PART of the story, not all of it, so I was never destined to fall head over heels anyway. It was pretty much my first try at supernatural romance and I wasn't impressed. Plus the whole horendously controlling/stalking thing Edward has is never called out on. If I have a stalker in fiction or a character that behaves very badly, I intend to have that pointed out! I'd want people to notcie that and get annoyed with the character! I wouldn't want them to think they're perfect or 100% right all the time.
What's wrong isn't that Edward and Bella DO this in fiction, it's that it's shown to be fine and healthy. Um, no.
The third movie was... dare I say it... not half bad? The acting is MUCH better in the third movie (the first movie acting was the worst I've ever seen... EVER. And I'm counting school productions here from my vague memories). Plus the third movie is much more interesting. More action for one! The book from what I hear is not for me though, considering the fact one of the 'histories' of the Cullens that actually interested me apparently states she was still well off in the depression because her dad was an f'in BANKER makes me want to head desk. Among other things.
I'm not sure vampires are really ME to be honest, though I did think about what my own spin on vampires would be rather than the ones Meyer produced.
For me my vampires do have super strength and speed like Meyers... but only at night. And in the daylight they feel incredibly weak and drained and are so low in energy a nursery kid could take them on. Staying in the shade or inside helps but only a little bit. In direct sunlight they just faint or keel over after a few minutes.
Also while animal blood can sedate their hunger for a little while they definitly perfer the human kind but only go for the former more so because the latter is dangerous to get sometimes. They have to eventually answer their true human blood calling though otherwise they'd go into a frenzy and instead of a harmless bite and drain which may leave someone feel a little woozy they could kill someone.
This has occasionally resulted in odd 'arrangements' with humans who know the truth.
I mean I agree the whole bursting into flames thing is kind of dumb unless it's played for laughs like with Terry Pratchett, who is own weird way almost makes you fiorget about that. But it's still better than sparkles.

I have never read a Twilight book nor have I seen a movie. Also something that I keep reminding everyone but it gets ANNOYING! WERE WOLFS ARE FAT WEASLES IN THE ARTIC! That's right, fat weasels in the artic, tundra, whatever it was. It was on Planet Earth. (even if in moi's brand spanking new Websters poket dictonary for school says were wolfs are a person changed into a wolf, it's terribly WRONG!)

Yeah, as much as I'm not horribly fond of Meyer's vampires, I still hate when people decided they hate the story based on that. Every writer has to choice to do what they want and shouldn't have to follow any kind of set rules on stuff like mythological creatures. To be honest, my big problem with her vamps is that I feel I've seen them 1,000 times before in various stories all over Quizilla and other such sites.
For the record. I've read 3.5 (Breaking Dawn was just too bad to finish) of the books and all of the movies. Whereas the books somewhat depress me and make me weep for the future of literature, the movies make me laugh until I cry. The dialog is like that of a bad comedy.
Speaking of bad satires, is anyone going to see Vampires Suck?

Who else hates it terribly? my brother watched it and was like "MAN! That SUCKED!" Your brother does realize that Twilight is more marketed towards GIRLS? A good majority of their fanbase are women and the films are done more like chick flicks also, yeah, a good number of the time, a guy probably won't enjoy a chick flick unless sex is involved.

That's something I never understood either. The books revolve around the first person telling of a girl and how hot she thinks this guy is. A good majority of the book is just explaining how Edward is teh sex with a perfect jawline and perky nipples. I wouldn't want to read a book where a guy constantly talked about his perfect girlfriend and her amazing rack. Why would a straight guy care about Edward's sparklebod. Still, I know a handful of guys who really love the series. I confused.
