Well, it's official...just saw some movie surfer junk on Disney about that Princess and Frog film, Keith David who did the voice of the cat in Coraline is doing the voice of the villain in this film.
Now, I'm still not sure if that would make me want to see this film or not although he did a bad a$$ job in Coraline as the cat, the only reason I could think of for not wanting to see this film is mainly the whole thing with culture.
I have nothing against Disney taking a shot of doing a film of people of other race but what bothers me is in all the other films that related to other races, the casts are mainly people, now why is it that when Disney takes a stab at Hispanic culture, we get "Yo Quiero Taco Bell" going on here. I don't know, I just don't get it, at least they actually got a Latino to voice the character in Beverly Hills Chihuahua (still haven't seen it, need to) but why base it on Hispanic culture using a dog?! Doesn't make sense to me.

I've met Keith David before...which is completely unrelated to this topic. XD Great guy though, always stops whatever he's doing to talk with you and such. Interesting guy and very supportive of his fan base. Anyways don't mind me, continue with the posts.

Oh my freaking god! You for real?! That's awsome! I know you said 'don't mind me' but that is just way too cool! I've never been able to meet anyone famous but when you live in Texas, that kind of doesn't happen really.

I've been anticipating this film for well over a year and I think I could really enjoy David's villain. It's that classic kind of antagonist that I grew up with. I think people are blowing the race deal out of proportion. They've majority changed the story just because people complaining that it was racist. They're just picking things to complain about. There's even a big ruckus over the prince being white. They said it implied that a black man could not make a suiting price. Of course, if he were black, people would also say it's racist that they're implying a black woman should only be with a black man. I just wish people would lighten up on the subject. If you want to talk racism, why don't you target almost any other Disney film. Look at Aladdin, for instance. You could pull a lot of things from that.
There hasn't been many movies recently reflecting Hispanic culture. If you look at the past, it's just a bunch of stereotypes. I know where you're coming with the Chihuahua thing. Animation does that a lot with dog breeds, but the Chihuahua is particularly famous for it. Look at the pound from Lady and the Tramp. Many of the dogs fit the stereotype for it's county of origin. It's something they pulled a lot back in those days and they still do it now. You don't really see that with any dog but the Chihuahua.

Oh, now that should be good ;D. Coraline, being the strange film that it is, had Keith David fit the part of the cat, I think, perfectly with his, well 'sinister and dark' like voice. To be honest, I didn't hear of the Princess and The Frog until doing a thorough search upon new animated films a few months ago I think...
I've been impressed by mostly all of the Disney Princess themed old classics. Although they follow a similar storyline, that still makes them gems, and I'm pretty sure this is going to be a great addition to the tradition.

It was at a convention with voice actors and stuff uh....three years ago. And he was really cool too because he'd always remember who you were after meeting you and made it feel like he really did pay attention to his fans and make a point to know each one. If you were passing by him in the hall too he'd always break from a conversation to say hi to you as you passed by. One of the nicer and more conscientious guys there.

Hmm, well, maybe I'll check this movie out after all, I did love David's work in Coraline and maybe I'll also like this film too. The only problem is finding the time with my work schedule especially since there are other films that have been in theaters longer that I have yet to see. Yeah Bampot, that is one of the things that the chihuahua is famous for, being used as a stereotype and a common pet made famous by Paris Hilton. I did see some clips of Beverly Hills Chihuahua and there are actual people in it which aren't too stereotyped, that's actually good. Who knows, maybe Disney did an okay job with this film but it is hard to find a lot of films that center around Hispanic culture. Even on television, shows that are created by Hispanics or even star them don't always last too long and tend to get pulled off the air after a few seasons. Although, there are more and more things of Hispanic culture that do seem to inspire other things actually. I believe that one show "Ugly Betty" is based on an actual novela called Betty La Fea and even one of my LDD's does represent some aspect of Hispanic culture. It's one of the newest sets that they had released, her name is Calavera and she is dressed as a skellington but how her makeup is done seems to be a referrence to El Dia de los Muertos or The Day of the Dead, even her name is a spanish word which means "skull". I know that stereotypes are quite a common thing in film but I guess in films like Beverly Hills Chihuahua, better a dog being the stereotype of Hispanics then a bandito.

Meh, Beverly Hills Chihuahua isn't all that great of movie. The only pirk is watching the adorable dogs. Although I did enjoy the central theme of the film. That Chihuahua, and small dogs in general, are not accessories. That they're dynamic little dogs with a rich history. I hate seeing this female celebrities with Chis that only use them as an extra status symbol, akin to a necklace or dress. I feel so sorry for their dogs. They've also popularized the idea of teacup and have made them in high demand. There are no such things as teacup Chihuahuas. They're just runts breeding runts. It's very unhealthy for the dogs. Breeding Chihuahuas is risky even with a large female.
Lol, I'll end this rant now and let you get back on topic. Chihuahuas are my favorite breed. I adore them. Thinking about getting another in the coming years.

Sure thing. Getting back on topic, I wonder about what other voice work did Keith David do besides this film and Coraline, I actually didn't know about him until I had seen Coraline.

He did Goliath in "Gargoyles." That's where I know him from mostly.

Nostalgia Critic would totally go gay for that voice.
Keith David... oooh, he rattles my ears in *all* the right places. *dopey smile* As Goliath, the Cat, Dr. Facilier... especially that last one. "Friends on he Other Side" indeed.
