YAY! I have my traveling junkyard back! With some *cough, cough*, financial assistance from my dear old dad, *cough*, I now have automatic transmission and don't have to take a flying leap just to make it into the driver's seat! It actually feels kinda funny driving my little SUV after driving around for weeks in that Sherman Tank of my father's, LOL! I will miss those Air-Ride seats in that big behemoth, however, and my attempts to get my dad to trade radios with me failed miserably. The one in his truck will pick up virtually every radio station in the Southeast, and he only listens to ONE dinky little easy-listening local station, what a waste! But, at least I don't have to step on a clutch or shift gears now, and finding a parking spot is not so much of a big deal anymore.

Woot! Yeah, the loss of a car is rough - so frustrating!
Great news!

Congrats! I'm so glad it worked out! ;D How much did fixing it cost, in the end?

OHhhh...around two-thousand, four-hundred dollars, US. I have to take it back this afternoon because the "Check Engine" light came on yesterday, but the main guy wasn't in town, so I have to wait until I leave work today. The new engine isn't as strong as my old one, either, even though it LOOKS better. It has more trouble pulling up steep hills or passing other vehicles-not as much "kick". Still, it was the best available, so I better not complain.

Nope, that's about average for replacing the engine in a car, assuming you find someone who can actually do a decent job of it(especially with import cars, like Toyotas, which can be difficult to work on anyway)and get an engine that's still in pretty good shape. The actual engine itself cost $1500.00; all the rest was for labor. It's just too bad I have no natural capacity for this sort of thing myself, since not only would I have saved a whole bundle BUT I'd be able to MAKE a whole lot, too, fixing up other people's cars! Teaching doesn't pay anything NEAR what mechanics make, and I just haven't been lucky enough to find some wonderful guy who could do that sort of thing for free.

Well, if you're not married Pitbulllady, (I'm not sure whether you are or not) then maybe you could go on the hunt for a mechanic! ;D
