Well, the good news, (at least, for us British) is that we have won the bid for the Olympics in 2012!!! YAY!!! ;D
But the bad news is...well, I'm sure most of you have heard about the bombings...

Yeah, I'm really glad you won out over the French for the Olympics thing. That rocks. You deserve it much more than the French, I must say. (French President Sherak has a big mouth, saying Brits can't cook and don't know how to dress ) I happen to like British food. Especially fish and chips. ;D In fact, we were going to make some tonight, as a matter of a fact (not authentic, of course, but pretty close, lol). And I'm sorry to hear about those bombings. It's simply terrible and, as your Prime Minister Blair described it. . ."barbaric". My thoughts and prayers go out to all you guys in London. You're one of America's best friends. *hugz*

Yeah, that French dude is just plain weird...In the paper the other day, there was a whole double page devoted to jokes about the French. Heh. ;D
And yeah, we are pretty close with America now. Though- and I mean no offense whatsoever- I like America, I just don't like George Bush. To quote him; "Do not misuderestimate me." Sure...But, apart from that, America's been really supportive of late. I'm sure it'll all be cleared up pretty quickly in London, though- we want to make a good impression, if you see what I mean.

Where in Britain do you live in, LGBB?
EDIT: I am not an overtly sensitive individual, but it's just things like these, watching innocent people hurt and die, that currently have me to the point of tears. Those people will be in my prayers tonight.

Sure...But, apart from that, America's been really supportive of late. I'm sure it'll all be cleared up pretty quickly in London, though- we want to make a good impression, if you see what I mean. I don't particularly like Bush either. I mean, America has a 50% or so voter turnout, right (at least in 2000)? And he "won" (what with that election scandal in 2000) by only a thin margin. So, if one thinks about it, how many people in the US actually voted for him? 25%? 30%? That isn't democracy - it's scary. So how many Americans really wanted to go to war? Another question - Bush's father was president a decade or two ago, right? Why did another member of the same family become president? Aren't there millions of other people to choose from in the country? ...It sorta brings to mind the mofia (you know, one "boss" family rules, etc.). One of the other reasons I don't like Bush is the fact that he went to war on very thin grounds - there may be weapons of mass desctruction - but what if Sadam Hussein really destroy them all like he said he did? The whole "if she's a witch she'll float, if not she'll drown" - either way he's screwed. Bush didn't really give him a chance to defend himself, and now lots of people are dying because of it. I'm glad that Canada doesn't support the war in Iraq. Plus, the American deficit's gotten frighteningly high - it could ruin the American economy. And if the American economy fails, us Canadians will suffer quite a bit as well (you could think of it as our economy practically hinging on America's - when they do well, we do well). This stuff affects all of us, too. Anyway, that's my little speech about Bush.

WHAT!? You don't mean to say you haven't HEARD about this?? It's all over the news, the talk on the streets and in businesses, everywhere! About the only thing here that's getting more attention than the London bombings is the impending arrival of Hurricane Dennis, somewhere along the Gulf shore of the US, sometimes this weekend. It's a really bad Category 4 storm, with 145-m.p.h. sustained winds, and will likely get stronger once it crosses over Cuba(they are getting hit really bad right now)and into the Gulf of Mexico. Looks like this year will be even worse than last year, in terms of major hurricanes hitting us.
I read just awhile ago that the bombs's death toll now is well over 50. That's just so sad, but I do have to admire the Brits for trying to go about their normal business. However, I do need to point out that England, unlike the US, has been the site of many horrific bombings in the past, with World War I and II, and with the IRA attacks, so this isn't the first time they've had to deal with this sort of thing. For the US, the World Trade Center attacks were really the first time we've ever had to deal with anything on that scale before, being attacked by outside forces, so natually we tended to overreact. People here have grown complacent since 2001, though, turning the former WTC site into a tourist attraction, so I am pretty certain it will happen again.

I don't think I've seen ANYBODY who hasn't heard about this atrocity. ; It seems like every person I know is either effected by it or has it as their Subject of the Month, and it just makes me sick to think that whoever did this probably thinks that he's made the world a better place. My sincerest condolences to those who have been affected. ~Keaton the Black Jackal PS: I'm gonna have to hop aboard the anti-Bush bandwagon too. Someone of my age shouldn't be getting into politics... but what the heck.

Where in Britain do you live in, LGBB? Right down in the south in a town called Chichester, sort of in-between Portsmouth and Southampton. And, I have to admit, all of my friends take a pleasure out of poking fun at George Bush. Heck, even his WIFE makes fun of him!

No one in my family likes George Bush either. I'm glad we got the olympics too. The bombings were horrible though. My aunt would have been there at that time if she hadn't gone on holiday the day before.

*agrees* Lucky. Has there been any news as to who's responsible for the bombings, yet?

And I'm sorry to hear about those bombings. It's simply terrible and, as your Prime Minister Blair described it. . ."barbaric". My thoughts and prayers go out to all you guys in London. You're one of America's best friends. *hugz* Pretty much sums up my thoughts, too. I've been thinking of everyone over there since this happened. *also hugs* Even so, I'm still VERY pleased that you won the bid for the 2012 Olympics. *nods* It is sad, huh? What people say about Americans forgetting these things too easily -- lapsing back into that same attitude of "it could NEVER happen to US!" -- is so true, it's downright scary. It's just that sort of complacency that partly got us into trouble in the first place, IMO. *shakes head* ~Light Rises
