Mum thinks that it was the clam chowder on the ferry ride over to the island, because she got sick soon after, but Ian got sick the next day, and he didn't eat any of it (and food poisoning isn't contageous, you know?)
Still, we had fun anyway - we got to go whalewatching (didn't see anything but seal lions, elephant seals, and a bald eagle nest :( Hey, at least we got some fresh air! And learned about the whales!), go to the Royal BC Museum (awesome stuff! I loved the exibit that's made up to look like a few blocks in a Victorian town... they even have speakers with random sounds like cats yelping in the alleyways, metal banging on metal at the smithy's...) and the Bug Zoo. That was cool - the guide there was so enthusiastic, and new her stuff. I got to hold some absolutely huge insects - this green catydid thing (forget the exact name of the species) that was easily as large as my hand, a few walking sticks (the ones that looked like leaves were so cute!), and something called a thorny (horny? Can't remember which) devil (I thought of the lizard when I first heard her talking about it O_o;), which was the largest insect they had (they had about 50 insects there, all told, not including the like twenty bazillion ants in the ant farm thing - second largest ant farm in North America). She also explained lots of things about tarantulas (how the ones with lots of hair are usually less poisonous, etc.). Fascinating stuff! I can see why you like stuff like this so much, Pitbulllady!
