of how Randall must have felt while working with Fungus! Since the beginning of the school year, I've been assigned to oversee the school's computer lab during the first three periods of the day, since they had to fire the actual computer instructors throughout the district due to budget cuts. My "assistant", if you will, is the PE teacher, who knows VERY little about computers. She is just about to drive me NUTS, I tell ya!
She takes "anal retentive" to a whole new level, and will spend much of the class time either organizing things in the room, or averaging grades from PE, or organizing papers from other things, or balancing her checkbook, etc., etc., and she CONSTANTLY talks out loud about what she's doing, while she's doing it, and while the students are working on math problems on the computers. She's not even talking to anyone in particular, but she is constantly doing SOMETHING, rather than supervising the students or assisting with computer-related problems, and talks about it the whole time, just like Fungus does in the movie. She often sticks whatever it is she's working on, whether her grades or her constantly-updated class rosters, or her bank statements, or whatever, in my face while I'm trying to monitor students, and tell me about whatever it is that the work is showing, ad nauseum. Today the kids were working on math problems, and she was counting OUT LOUD the number of students who had turned in permission slips for some other program she was involved in-ever had someone else counting out loud in the background while you're working with numbers yourself? The kids were begging ME to make her shut up, and she was so absorbed in what she was doing that she did not even hear them! I didn't even know how to deal with this; after all, she IS another teacher, and has seniority over me at this school due to having been here longer than I have. I can really, really sympathize with how Randall must have felt, listening to Fungus doing the same thing, day in and day out, rattling on about totally useless stuff(to Randall, anyway)and "thinking out loud" all the time!
