Oh, of course, you don't have it in America! Though I'm sure you've heard of it- "Remember remember, the fifth of November, gunpowder, treason and plot?"

"We see no reason why gunpowder treason should ever be forgot!" Unfortunately, our American history courses only cover enough of Britain's history for students to vaguely remember that it had something to do with both World Wars.
What part of England are you from?

...Guy Fawkes Day? Right? Right? Gunpowder plot? Is that what you're referring to? (We actually haven't gotten there yet in European History, but I know 'bout it from Dianne Wynn Jones books ^_^ ) Seeing it's results, I believe that the American Education system lacks something to be desired; I've actually heard (from my Social Studies teacher, no less) of Americans that have tried to hitch-hike from Canada to Germany, of all places, not realising the ocean in between. ; Of course, Canada's soon not going to be much better. Before, we took whole units on the US, Japan, Russia etc. as well as Canadian history in Social Studies, but I hear that they're planning on getting rid of the foreign country aspect - something I think is essential so we don't all become self-centered idiots. ...Getting back on topic, how do you guys celebrate Guy Fawkes Day, anyway? I mean, what do you do?

I mean, what do you do? We don't learn ANY American/Canadian history whatsoever, so things like Independance Day just reminds me of the film 'Jaws' when the shark attacks on Independance Day, and that's about all I know of it. But, since I hate history in general, I'm not gonna complain. ;D We celebrate in the same way they did exactly 400 years ago- by lighting bonfires and, a newer thing, having lots of fireworks. Oh, and SickSadWorld- I'm from the south, about an hour and half's drive from London. ;D

Well, we don't learn too much about Europe either, with the exception of what you need to know about in Social Studies for WWI and WWII (the European History course I'm taking - fascinating subject, seriously, BTW - is a mandatory part of the optional Advanced Placement course [I'm just a History and Social Studies nut ]).
