Very cute story and pic, though Josh looks a bit older than a baby just learning to walk in the picture. It's tough drawing babies and toddlers, since their proportions are so different from that of adults . Is there a chapter missing, though? It seems like in the last one you posted up on FF.Net, Randall and Sandra had just picked up the baby, and now in this one they are back on Sandra's(?)appartment, and apparently have just had a big disagreement, which I don't remember in the last FF.Net chapter. Maybe I need to go back and re-read it in case my memory is simply failing me. Also, in this one, you described Randall's scales as "cold". Why would that be? He's GOT to be warm-blooded like we are to be able to do the things he does. He has far too much energy and stamina for a reptile that depends on outside heat sources, like the sun, and surely would have died down there in that dungeon-like place where he had to build the Scream Extractor. Plus, he would have to have hibernated for several months out of the year, and I seriously doubt that the company would have hired anyone who had to take a mandatory 4-6 month vacation every year! With it being November in the movie, Randall would already have been in hibernation if he were a true reptile, since even here in South Carolina my snakes, which are kept indoors year-round so they never get cold, will begin their long sleep in November(sometimes October)and won't usually wake up again until March or even April! Randall would probably feel very warm to the touch, maybe moreso than human skin does, since his body temperature might be slightly higher than what's normal for us. If you've ever felt of a python or boa that's been lying under a heat lamp, that's how I would figure he'd feel, which is very nice, actually!

Well....Boo can walk perfectly fine, and she's about four....according to her file I see... If Josh is still in diapers (which he probably is), he probably can walk a bit, but would mostly crawl.
Well....you got to remember Pitbulllady. "cold" has very bad associates(Fear, worry, depression)....though you would know that....

Anyway, just because at this point Randall's scales were cold doesn't mean that she implied that he's cold-blooded- ever had cold hands, or feet?

Well....Boo can walk perfectly fine, and she's about four....according to her file I see... If Josh is still in diapers (which he probably is), he probably can walk a bit, but would mostly crawl. Well....you got to remember Pitbulllady. "cold" has very bad associates(Fear, worry, depression)....though you would know that.... In the movie, Boo was only two. A four-year-old child, unless they are severely developementally-delayed, can speak clearly in complete sentences, while Boo was only just learning to communicate using single words and still used a lot of baby gibberish. My niece is two, and is at that same stage as Boo was in the movie. If the story takes place two years after the movie, then Boo would be four. Josh would probably be a bit younger than his sister was when she first came into the Monster World, if he is still crawling. Most babies learn to walk when they are a bit over a year old and can run pretty fast by the time they are two. Incidentally, Boo was apparently "potty trained" at a very early age, which isn't that unusual for girls, since most kids ARE still wearing diapers at the age of two! As for the meanings of the word "cold", this can mean an emotional reaction to something or someone, a viral infection of the respiratory system, or a physical lack of warmth. I'm well aware of what the word can mean. The word "cold" does NOT mean "bad" or "worried", although a cold reception from someone CAN be bad. Anyway, it was not RANDALL'S behavior or reaction that was described as being cold, but his SCALES. Since his scales do not have emotions, anymore than our hair or fingernails(which are made of the same thing), that word could only have referred to the way they felt to the touch. I'm not ragging on FONY, just pointing out that even though Randall LOOKS like a reptile, he isn't, at least not in the biological sense in which we define the word "reptile". A lot of people would automatically expect him to feel cold to the touch, since most people assume that he is a reptile and that reptiles are always cold, due to the fact that they are said to be "cold-blooded", which is a very misleading term! pitbulllady

Anyway, just because at this point Randall's scales were cold doesn't mean that she implied that he's cold-blooded- ever had cold hands, or feet? Yeah, EXTEMETIES like hands and feet can be cold because the body will restrict blood flow to those areas in times of physical stress, so as to redirect blood to the more-vital areas of the body, like the internal organs and brain. Hands and feet are expendable; heart, lungs, kidneys, brains, etc. AREN'T. When this happens, the core body temperature, i.e. the temperature of the torso, will rise, making the body actually feel warmer than normal. We know Randall doesn't have scales on his hands and feet, so most likely the baby would have been touching his sides or back, and there would be no reason for any part of his torso to be cold unless he were in shock. Sorry that bugged people so much that I mentioned the referrence to Randall's scales being "cold", but I just wanted to make sure that there was no confusion between him and a true reptile that is dependent on something outside its body for warmth. pitbulllady

Well according to her file here...she is four so....well....the facts speak for themselves... But judging from human world facts about toddlers at such ages....maybe it's about Boo in general. How she acts at that age could relate to info about her. She probably learned to walk on her own....she can't talk that well, only a few words...and she might be starting potty training. Wouldn't be surprised if she was still in a pull-up just out of diapers or something...
Cold does reflect allot of depressement and calmness. It's close relative is blue, who does represent such things...

One thing you should know ... I'm new to drawing babies. Hell, I can't even draw Jack Jack right ... Well, maybe he's 18 months old or something ... Yeah, that little piece I wrote probably made little sense- I wrote ahead and since none of this may ever get put together to make any sense ... *sigh* ignore it. I tried. Guess this story will only live on in my drawings ... if they help, anyways ...

It made sense, and it was really good, but it seemed like there was a chapter missing between the last one on FF.Net and this one, and I just sorta wanted to get in on the details of the fight that Randall and Sandra apparantly had! Babies ARE hard to draw, like I said, since they have this rather odd proportion about them. Their heads are so large compared to their bodies and their limbs are short. If you're used to drawing adults, drawing babies is a whole different ball game! I would figure that Josh would have to be around 18 months, to be able to walk around pretty good, but not able to talk yet. Babies at that age haven't really started to go through that "fear stage" where they will suddenly be scared of something or someone for no apparent reason, so it wouldn't be surprising that Josh is not afraid of Randall or Sandra, but acts towards them as he would towards his own parents. They talk, they walk upright, he can distinguish male from female voices at that age, so they must be his folks, right?
About the file stating that Boo was four, Sean-is that the one which is shown in the "Essential Guide"? I don't think that's Boo's file, even though it describes a female human child. For one thing, there's the age, and it also states that the child's room is always kept neat with toys picked u off the floor-something that would be VERY helpful to any monster coming in to scare! Boo's room, though, was rather untidy, with toys EVERYWHERE, as Sulley found out the hard way! I just think that file was a random human girl, shown just to give an example of how much detail the Scarers actually knew about their "subjects".

It makes you wonder Pitbulllady and encourages you to read what happens next..... Hmm....something I should do...
No. In Annual 2003, the book clearly states her name on file with the age of 4. Judging from how four year olds may act, there may be some "neglect" from others toward Boo in the Human World.

Remember, also, that the character of Boo underwent several script changes before the filmmakers finally settled on the version we saw in the movie. She was originally supposed to be a BOY, about 8 years old, then was changed to a mean little six-year-old girl, and finally ended up as a toddler. Most likely at some point they had her written in as a four-year-old. I absolutely will not believe she was four in the movie; I've been around waaaay too many children and that includes 4-year-old Kindergartners, which are among my students. Those kids are much bigger than Boo, can talk quite eloquently, etc. Someone on IMDb brought up a "what if" regarding Boo being "neglected' or abused, mainly because they wanted to write a fanfic with that at the main center, and got promptly shot down by myself and several members with extensive child experience. Boo was NOT a neglected child; she appeared very healthy and active and showed no signs of malnutrition, and she was clean. She had lots and lots of toys, a "big girl" bed in what appeared to be a nice house and she was not timid or shy(except when around a certain purple monster). Her hair was neatly groomed. If she'd been neglected, even in the past, it would have shown itself as rickets, emotional withdrawal, etc, especially if it had been enough to stunt her out of two years' growth! Everything about her, from her size, to her limited vocabulary, to her temper tantrum when Mike snatched the teddy bear from her, indicates a TWO-YEAR-OLD, a very typical one at that.

Well I just thought her motor skills and speech would be better that's all...
Pitbulllady....I honestly think a book made with info from Pixar and sent out in 2003 would have the latest info no?

Well I just thought her motor skills and speech would be better that's all... Pitbulllady....I honestly think a book made with info from Pixar and sent out in 2003 would have the latest info no? Not if that scan of the child's information was of something made BEFORE that. That is, I'm quite sure, the exact same one that's in the Essential Guide. Yeah, a four-year-old would have MUCH better speech and motor skills than Boo does, but a two-year-old wouldn't. A four-year-old would be much bigger, too. My best friend's granddaughter is four, and she can give you the minute-by-minute synopsis of just about every movie made since she was born, and tell you the make and model of any Harley Davidson she sees on the road, and operate a DVD player, VCR, etc. She is not an exceptional child, either, just a typical four-year-old. The only thing Boo does that is a bit unusual for a two-year-old is to be able to draw recognizable images, but then, I could draw that well at the age of two, and my niece can draw recognizable horses, ferrets, rabbits and some other animals now, and she's two. She still talks with that combination English/gibberish, plus some words she has made up for mundane objects. She has only just gotten out of the stage where all furry non-hooved, non-canine, non-weasel animals were "key cots"("kitty cats"), including my tarantulas! pitbulllady
