I was just wondering ... I saw a couple of guests on here and they were viewing the fanfiction threads. We should put this thread on members only, since there are people out there who are more than willing to steal others' work (there always is).
I just thought it would be a lot safer for all of us to secure these threads.

Well...I dunno...technically once you put your stuff, writing or art (writing might be easier to steal though), anyone who sees it once can gank it. That includes Fanfiction.net, of course. And, couldn't someone register, copy/paste something, and then go away again? I'm sorry if it sounds snitty... But I've been online for eons and I've had writing and artwork not only published on other websites as someone else's but printed in magazines without credit to me and in the case of artwork, printed on merchandise and sold on eBay and God knows where else. Posting stuff on the Internet is risky, period. That's why I only post fanart and fanfic, nothing wholly original. Not anymore, anyways.

Hmm...Well, while I understand why you're saying this, FONY, I also see Sparky's point of view...If you really don't want someone to steal it, I guess you shouldn't post it at all.

While I definitely see where you're coming from, FONY, I have to agree with LGBB and Sparky on this one -- posting anything anywhere on the Internet is risky, especially if its text, since you can at least slap some (sadly) intrusive watermark onto your artwork in order to deterr art theft, while getting the chance to look at "members only" text only requires a bit of hacking or just a moment to register membership. Like Sparky, I only post fan-related art and writings on the Web these days, so I can keep my completely original intellectual property relatively safe.

=/ Sorry, I was just suggesting. It seems we've been getting a lot of guests going to fanfiction, and I was worried since I need to 'publish' my crossover on FF.Net ... oh well- Everything I say on here usually turns out to be wrong or pointless =P

Don't worry, it WAS a good suggestion. Your concern is completely understandable, and I, like you, sincerely wish there was more we could do to protect our Internet stuff from plagiarism or art theft. ~Light Rises

No no no, FONY, I COMPLETELY understand why you said this, and it does make sense! Everyone's opinions and suggestions are always welcome on this board, yours included. ;D

Personally Fony's right. There is allot of controversy in the "copywrite" of Fanfiction work.
The way I see it....although the characters....
"AHEM...."
.....Although the characters are.....
"AHEM!"
....Fine....since those in the movies are...."chained" by their founding industry, they are their "property".
HOWEVER. The STORY itself is property of the writer. Even though the character in YOUR story has the same appearence, may even the same name, it does not mean that the character is COMPLETELY Disney's, in this case, or Pixar's. The way you make the character in the story is YOUR perception of that character, YOURS, no-one elses....making it your property...
"Ahem..."
....Unless the character decides to write his own stories....
"Thank you..."
Anyway. These works we put on here are, essentially, OUR property. OUR work. So, yes, they should be protected.... But hey....even if someone was even interested, it's not like they'll get anything out of it. We have the originals....we did the work....and it just proves how worthless their own lives are.
And another thing....we all know who created which story and we can back each other up when trouble occurs...
