Just a little fic I thought of after hearing a song called, "Shelter" from my animal rights CD. Okay, here's the plot for my fanfic and see if you guys would like to read it.
PLOT: There is a town I made up where cartoon and CGI characters live in when the movie makers don't need them anymore. Randall's girlfriend convinces him to work in an animal shelter for a little while. There are four dogs and two cats there who are gonna be put to sleep if they don't get adopted soon, and Randall has to find good homes for them.
If you guys are interested, I'll start right away. But if you don't, then forget it.

Sounds cool ^__^ I'd be very interested to read that. =)
All my animals were from the shelter or rescued- 'cept the bulldogs. One cat, Milo, we rescued him in North Carolina- he was abandoned near a hotel pool. We still have him- he's the sweetest ^_^ The cat I bottle-raised, Hope, she was abandoned near one of the Elementary schools in my area. Julie and Rusty were both just given up by their owners. My amazon parrot Sweet Pea was thought to be dead- she was found frozen in a cardboard box but she's well and she's the only bird that'll let me touch her, lol ^_^

I have been kicking around a story for a few years now, in which Randall befriends a Pit Bull Terrier in the Human World, after rescuing her from the Animal Control Officer's truck. The premise revolves not so much around rescue, but around prejudice and descrimination, something Randall would know about. The dog was confiscated, and was going to be killed simply for BEING a Pit Bull, on the commonly-accepted Animal Control policy that they are all vicious, untrustworthy, evil things by default who are too dangerous to live in our society. Most "humane" organizations(and I use that term loosely)have "kill on sight" policies regarding Pit Bulls and similar types of dogs and do not offer them for adoption, even if they are only puppies, but kill them immediately, and support legistlation banning them and other breeds and mandating their extinction. As someone who has experienced this sort of prejudice himself, Randall could relate to the dog being hated and feared simply for what she was, and is determined to save her and prove all the fear-mongers and Pit Bull-haters wrong. In this story, some of the key HUMAN characters are a well-educated African-American man, whose opinions are changed, and an elderly Holocaust survivor, both of whom can also relate to decrimination and mandated extermination, so the story is as much about that theme as anything else.

Nice one Veg ^_^
Actually. I too had an idea like this, mainly about animals in a generally sense. Got the idea from reading a book backstage at our school when I did prop work. Made up a story about someone (don't know who yet) getting transformed into a reptile and must experience such a life through the eyes of a snake/lizard, though still with some fantasy like I always do ^_^
Sorry, this is your thread Veg ^_^

Okay, here is the first chapter. just to remind you, I made up this town where animated and CGI characters go when the movie makers don't need them. Okay, here we go.
THE SHELTER
They're crowded into the smallest spaces While outside, all of nature cries It's known to be cruel and unfair But there is no place to hide Oh, I've seen a part of people that I never really wanted to share Oh, I've seen a part of people that I never knew was there
Shelter, give them shelter from the coming storm Shelter, give them shelter from the coming storm
I can't sleep - haunted by their faces The sadness in their eyes It hurts so much to see them helpless It makes me want to cry But still there is so much left unanswered For so many innocent lives They closed the door and are letting nobody in And only the strong will survive
Shelter, give them shelter from the coming storm Give them shelter, give them shelter from the coming storm
I've seen the anger and I've seen all the dreams And I've watched their existence torn apart at the seams And though I may seem helpless I will do all that I can do I've seen a part of people that I never really wanted to share Oh, I've seen a part of people that I never knew was there
Shelter, give them shelter from the coming storm Give them shelter, give them shelter from the coming storm Shelter, give them shelter from the coming storm Give them shelter, give them shelter from the coming storm
---Sarah McLachlan
CHAPTER 1
Randall sighed and laid on the couch, staring up at the ceiling. “Saturday morning,” He mumbled. “Everyone is up and doing things. Me, I’m just laying here being bored. Bored, bored, bored, bored, bored.” Suddenly there was a commotion outside. Randall got up and looked out the window. Sebulba the Dug was yelling at Mike Wazowski to not lay a hand on his podracer. A bunch of other characters from movies came out of their homes to watch. Most of the population of this town were animated or CGI characters from movies past. They were all created in a studio and then the movie makers use them for a little while. Then when they finish the movie, the director tells the characters, “Okay, you’re done.” then send them to this town. Mike stomped away, mumbling about how Disney and Star Wars characters shouldn’t be allowed to live with each other. The phone rang. Randall answered it. “Hello?” “Hi Randall.” A feminine voice said. “Oh, hi Kelly.” Randall said, straightening up. “Um, Randall...” Kelly’s voice came from the other line. “Are you doing anything today?” “Nah, not really.” Randall said. “Okay, good.” Kelly sounded relieved. “I need some help at the place I work at and I was wondering if you could help.” Randall shrugged. “Sure, I can help.” “Okay good.” Kelly said. “Meet me at the place called, ‘Doggy and Kitty Haven’.” Randall froze. “What?!”

Thank you all! And yes, Sebulba will be in this fanfic. ;D All right, next chapter up! CHAPTER 2 Randall stared at the medium-sized building that was old and shabby. A sign said, DOGGY AND KITTY HAVEN: A PLACE FOR THE HOMELESS WEAKER CREATURES. Randall stared at Kelly, a beautiful pink female reptile. “You didn’t say this was an animal shelter!” Kelly smiled and shrugged. “What did you thought it was? A library?” Randall folded his four arms. “No way I’m going in there!” Kelly tilted her head to one side. “What’s the matter? Scared of dogs and cats?” “No,” Randall said. “I just don’t like them! They shed, and drool and chew up everything!” Kelly grabbed his arm and dragged him in. “Well, time to get over it.” Inside, Randall was met with the stench of dog and cat. The room they were in was like a waiting room. To one side was a door where the animals were kept. “Come on,” Kelly said, leading Randall into the room. “Time to meet the dogs and two cats.” The smell was even more horrible in the room where they keep the dogs. There were eight dog cages on the two sides of the room. Only four were occupied while the rest were empty. Kelly pointed to a Doberman dog. “That’s Ripper. Be careful with him, he isn't used to people yet.” Randall looked at the huge black dog with scars on it’s body, a ripped ear, and an ugly scar going down it’s muzzle. Randall sniffed. “What’s the worse he can do?” He stepped closer to the cage. Ripper threw himself at the door of the cage, barking and snarling. Randall jumped back. “Gee! What’s the problem with this dog?” “He used to be a fighting dog.” Kelly explained. “Then he couldn’t win anymore fights, so his owner sent him here.” Ripper still stood there, growling. In the next cage, a tiny puppy chased it’s stubby little tail. It stopped and barked happily. Kelly smiled. “That’s Rascal. He’s a pitbull.” Randall looked at her. “A pitbull? Why do you keep a pitbull, nobody wants a pitbull! They say they are dangerous.” Kelly placed her hand on the cage door. Rascal sniffed and wagged his stubby little tail. “Just a bunch of lies.” Kelly said as Rascal licked her hand. A greyhound did a little whine. “Who’s he?” Randall asked. “She,” Kelly corrected. “It’s a she. Her name is Chelsea, a former racing dog. She used to be a real winner until she couldn’t go on anymore. Then she ended up here.” She turned to another dog. A mutt to be exact. “And the last dog here is Logan.” Randall went over to Logan’s cage. It was a German Shepherd/Golden Retriever mix. Logan looked up and wagged his tail. Suddenly, there was a loud yowl from another room. Kelly led Randall to the other room. “Lets go meet the cats.”

I actually didn't expect Randall's reaction so hard... I mean...you got his frusterated side down...^_^ Dogs and Cats aren't the only animals that "shed" ^_^
