Actually, it HAS been in theaters here for several months now. HMC was given a limited release on June 10, but Disney made the decision to release it widely a week later. So by now, unfortunately, the film's pretty much run its theatrical course in the U.S. That SHOULD mean, though, that a Region 1 DVD is forthcoming, and I plan on renting it the first chance I get! ;D

Yeah, and since HMC apparently hasn't been doing well in the cinema, it'll probably be quite a quick release.

But... I've NEVER seen ANY promotions for it AT ALL.

But... I've NEVER seen ANY promotions for it AT ALL. Yeah...unfortunately, outside of the animation community, it looks like there wasn't whole lotta stateside promotion of HMC. I saw a TV spot or two, and I caught a special that the TV Guide Channel did about it, but that's pretty much it apart from the animation-centric websites I frequent. I also live in California, which is pretty much as media-saturated as it gets anywhere, so I guess I was bound to come across something at some point about HMC whether or not I was paying attention, anyway. It's rather sad, that the promotion for this movie in the U.S. wasn't nearly as noticable as I once thought it was. ~Light Rises

Hmmm.... It IS a Miyrazaki film....as far as I know...films made by him weren't THAT publicly promoted. Pity that his masterpieces are missed out at first.

Well, over here, when it was first released, there were almost continuous adverts for HMC and they were really pushing it.

Well...I guess it's.... Wait a sec. Doesn't Miyazaki work with Disney now and makes his movies in California?

I was under the impression that Studio Ghibli (the Japanese studioin which Miyazaki's movies were produced) was completely independant of Disney. Disney only created the English translation and marketed them in the English-speaking world.

Well Disney was involved, I knew at least that... But I do know that Miyazaki's work is greatly appreciated by John Lassenger (err...) of Pixar.

Lasseter, and yeah, his name was mentioned in the ending credits, something to do with being a 'supporting director' or something.
