I dunno ... Hopper kinda reminds me of Randall. And I felt sorry for him when he got eaten. He seems to be a misunderstood character, just like Ran.
Any thoughts? ^^;

This should be in Other Pixar Movies but....
Well actually.....this is kind of like the event of Scar in Lion King. Like Pitbulllady said, nature took it's course.
I guess the same thing applies to Hopper. I don't really see much of a connection between him and Randall really.

Like Sean said, this really belongs under "Other Pixar Movies", and like him, I don't see Hopper as being Randall-like, but I don't see him as a villain, either. He was simply doing what he and the other grasshoppers have to do to survive. *I* cannot, in any way,shape, or form, sympathize with ants-hate 'em! To me, "ants" = "FIRE ants", the scourge of the South! Vile, savage, unrelenting horror-movie-worthy killers, they are. Grasshoppers(aka locusts)can be a real pain-in-the butt, too, but at least they don't bite or sting, and we DO have things that eat 'em to keep their numbers under control here in the US. Hopper reminded me more of a gang leader, and I think he was based on one of the those biker gang leaders from one of the '70's biker movies. He had all those other locust followers, whereas Randall really was pretty much of an outcast. What happened to Hopper was really, as Sean already pointed out, part of the natural food chain, and not the fault of Flik or the other ants. Birds eat insects; it's just part of the "Circle of Life". Randall's fate WAS directly the result of deliberate actions on the part of two other people, who just happened to have been monsters, but who clearly should have been raised by their mamas to know better.

I find myself saying this a lot, but, ditto to pitbulllady! ;D
...and man do I know what you mean about fire ants. *gets into story-telling mode* Okay, so I was visiting my uncle in Georgia one summer, right? Well, we set up some folding chairs out along the shore of a lake to watch the 4th of July fireworks over the water. It was beautiful...until I decided to stand up with camera, back away a little bit, and turn around to take a picture of everybody. I stepped right into a whole nest full of those buggers! It was NOT PLEASANT. They crawled everywhere...I had to take off my socks and sneakers and swat them off me for the rest of the night, and from that point on I was hyper-sensitized to any insect landing on me. In fact, a big old grasshopper did jump on me while I was watching (or attempting to watch) the fireworks, and normally I don't mind them, like other types of bugs (dragonflies, etc etc)...in fact, I'm usually not bothered by any bugs, I sit there and watch/play with spiders and then scoop 'em up and toss 'em outside. But that night I was just so fed up with bugs that I shook the poor little grasshopper away and screamed that every bug better stay away from me... ;D ;D

Heh ... sorry I put this here.
But I was told Randall's fate was survival of the fittest ... of course I wouldn't like to believe this, but I sometimes wonder if Ran fought back, what would happen then ...?
By the way, that was my retard brother's theory >__<;
Well, my argument always is; Randall's got a fine set of jaws, if he really wanted to use them, what would stop him from harming a child if he wanted to? Just wish he could gather the strength to twist his neck around and give Sullivan a nice scar to remember ... =P

I mean, he's got teeth like a Great White Shark, for crying out loud, and with those bulging jaw muscles, no doubt he can muster some impressive p.s.i. You would think, that if he REALLY wanted to hurt someone, he would just bite 'em-one quick head shake and it would be all over. Yet he never once bites anyone, not even Sulley. I guess he was afraid of getting a hair ball or something. pitbulllady

A) I like Hopper, but I don't see any resemblance between him and Randall.
B) I'm moving this subject. ;D

Randall knows when to control his abilities. Just shows you he does have good in him, that he never intended to hurt anyone.

Hairball. ;D hehe-- yeah, you put it in a good way- too bad no one else seems to put it that way (*cough* Gina ... *glares*) I'M SO SORRY FOR ... putting up boards that are sorta meaningless. Forgive me, for I cannot control my brain ... well, I can but not when I'm bored ... SORRY!

Okay, I don't really get what's going on here, but back to the main subject I like Hopper for some reason, normally I don't like the 'villians' in stories, but sometimes... I guess he just want to survive and he knows he'll get trouble when the ants discover that they're really strong. He's just kinda mean, to let the grasshoppers survive and have power. I don't really know if there's something else. With Randall, I DO have the feeling that there's something else. Weird... Greetz, Michelle
