according to Monday's New York Times. The deal is intended to merge the animation units of both companies and make Steve Jobs the largest and most powerful stockholder in the company, as well as giving powerful positions to other Pixar well-knowns, like John Lassiter. This is supposed to be officially announced today. I did not post a link since you have to register with the newspaper to read it, and you will get TONS of spam as a result(I know from experience), but you can go to www.animated-news.com and read about it. pitbulllady

So is this basically a merger? With Jobs having the same powers as Iger?

Jobs will be appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors, so really, he will have MORE power than Iger, since Iger cannot act without the approval of the BOD. Jobs will also be the largest share holder in Disney, which carries a tremendous amount of power. John Lassiter will head Creative Developement of Disney. We will see MORE of the Pixar-created characters, in games, PDA's, etc.

What do you mean, "have another agenda"? Sure, he wants to make more money, but he also wants to provide people with quality entertainment, and Bob Iger agrees. I am actually positive that Disney might be en route towards returning to the quality of films it made when Walt was still alive. One thing that IS in the contract-the Pixar teams will work out of the Emoryville studio, and will be given full rein to create the sequels to their movies.

It's just... I thought Steve didn't want sequels...and being in Disney's board....he still might not...

Well, one way or another, all of the 'powerful people' in this new merger company will have to agree with things like sequels, whether they will have them or not.
