I was just thinking about this today... Personally, I think M.I is the most well written and interesting of the pixar films - yet from many Pixar fans, this movie is near the end of the favourites list. What does it lack? I liked it far, far better than Cars, and yet that movie is far more popular. The same deal with The Incredibles - for example that IMDB poll about sequels, M.I was way behind. Can anyone guess what it is people don't quite get? Underrated up there with the Jungle Book.

Can anyone guess what it is people don't quite get? Underrated up there with the Jungle Book. I wouldn't put much stock in the IMDb polls if I were you. There are a LOT of people on there who dislike Pixar, dislike Western animation or CGI animation in general, and are going to bash it, no matter what. Many of them are teenagers who think that any Western animation is for little kids, and they can't see the point of any adult watching it, but yet, they do not equate Anime' with animation at all, and insist that it's not, even though it's made using the same technical aspects and tools as Western animation is! Also, you have to realize that where Monsters, Inc. is concerned, many people have never seen it, or have forgotten it, and this is only going to get worse as time goes on without a sequel. The characters are forgotten, and the interest is lost. A few years ago, about half of my students had seen Monsters, Inc.; the rest would see my Randall fanart or figurines and thought that he was one of Jumba's "Evil Genius Experiments" from the "Lilo and Stitch" tv series. Now, less than a fourth of my students have seen the Pixar movie, and they think that Randall is a resident of "Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends", that he's an Imaginary Friend! I have actually had a student point to his picture on my wall and ask me, "who created him?" pitbulllady

does anyone think it's kind of ironic that anime loving kids would bash MI? because it's a really popular movie with the Japanese. i think that's funny. no, i think it's like you said, pitbulllady. as new movies come out, they replace the older ones as favorites. i love all Pixar movies, but i can remember how much i loved Monster Inc when i first seen it.

Well they are recalled with a simple name as time goes on. Such as "from the makers of..." gives people a remembrance to the previous installments the makers of the film people are currently watching (Ratatouille), and for fans who like it they'll hopefully see the others.
I mean keeping M.I. "alive" in a sense is basically what these forums and fics/art is for ^_^

Yeah, that's what we call "IRONY" if ever there was such a thing! Western animation, especially Pixar, is VERY popular in Japan, as are Craig McCracken's two main series, "Powerpuff Girls" and "Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends". If you think that American fans are crazy over Wilt, you should see the reactions to him from Japanese girls! Some of the best Foster's fanart is from Japan, too. It's just so strange that Anime' fans here in America tend to really snub any animation NOT made in Japan, while the Japanese are pretty much just animation fans, period, no matter where it was made. pitbulllady

Yes yes! did you know that there is a Power Puff Girl anime? sorry, just had to bring that up. for me, Foster's is the only good western animated show (suitable for children) on right now. I miss the old shows.

Yeah, I've seen that Powerpuff anime, Kat Snape. And as an avid fan of the original Powerpuff Girls, I hated it- it looked all wrong!
But back to the original topic, MI is actually considered to be one of the 'middle' Pixar movies, so to speak- the general consensus is that MI is usually the third or fourth best movie out of all the Pixar films yet. Of course, this can vary greatly from person to person.

Hmmm.....Ratatouille, and ugh.....toss up between Cars and MI for second place for me I'd say. You can hate me if you want but I'd say Cars edged out MI barely though. I mean its really hard to do this with Pixar films as for the most part they're ALL quite good. ^_^;

Yeah, I mean, just because someone is a Randall-fan doesn't mean that their favourite Pixar film will automatically be MI; my favourite Pixar film is Toy Story, then Finding Nemo, then MI, so it all really depends. You're right, Remy- all the Pixar films have a very high standard of quality, so it's always gonna be difficult to choose between them.

Am I the onl;y one who desperately wants to see a *good* sequel? I just didn't think Cars cut it. By far M.I is my favourite PixarDisney film, and it seems like - in my opinion - some of the lesser quality films (SHREK.) get far more attention and crappy sequels. Is M.I anyone else's fav?
