Ahh years can change things. I mean they seem like they're finally doing Toy Story 3, so I guess could give the right for anything else to have a sequel ^_^ After all CARS is getting one 0_o They said they needed a "killer idea". That should be Ran's return/redemption, and HIS story. I mean, how can they NOT see that?

I was rather adamant that they were never ever ever going to make a sequel and leave all us poor fans hanging, but a recent google search has restored my faith! *sings* Kk, here’s a link to what my quick little search has found out: moviesblog.mtv.com/2008/07/30/pixar-eyeing-monsters-inc-sequel-says-films-director/ Well... that's nothing concrete for sure, but I would like to think that’s “positive evidence” regarding a sequel, no? (I’m starting to sound like one of those Bigfoot-enthusiasts…) Any boggsboard member can clearly note the many possibilities Randall’s return and turn-about could offer for the big screen, so hopefully they'll(eventually) pick up on that as well. I mean, come on! Dummie-heads. Anyway, others have noted that seeing him reprise a villainous role would really suck, I do hope he has a better part in this possible next one. ^^ However, I doubt that we’ll be seeing any action on the M.I. sequel front for a while. Pixar/Disney has already revealed the films they’ve planned until 2012 or so, and sadly Monsters, Inc. the Second isn’t among them. Maybe if the Pixar-peeps step up the production rate they could kick out the ones they’ve already announced faster and get chuggin’ on our sequel?

Yeah- I've known about Toy Story 3 since last year (I don't think they need another; they should make a sequel to something else before more Toy Story) and I've heard about the Cars sequel since April of this year (however, I'll be 19 in 2012, and I don't know if I will see it or not).
However, no matter how long we might have to wait for the supposed sequel of Monsters Inc, keep in mind how long it's been since the first. I mean, we're sitting on the exactly seven year mark here in less than two months, and already it's only a rumor. I mean, look at Toy Story- it came out 1995, and got a sequel in 1999. Now Toy Story 3 is coming out in 2010. That's 11 years after the second, 15 years after the first, making the young Toy Story fans of that time at least 15 or older. And Cars- it comes out 2006, and now there's gonna be a sequel (hopefully) in 2012- 6 years later. I was 13 then; I'll be 19 in 2012, and honestly, I doubt I'll be waiting in line for a ticket to Cars 2. Or for Toy Story 3, if it hits theaters. And knowing Pixar, it most likely will.
I'm not trying to sound negative here- I'm just stating the facts. I think I'd only see Cars 2 if Chick Hicks was in it- however, that doesn't look as likely with the summaries of the movie already coming out, and saying that Lightning and Mater are headed to Europe. And like you say, I'd only see Monsters Inc 2 if Randall were back and more of a character than he was in the original. I think once we become fans of a certain character, we totally forget how little movie time they have- Randall maybe has 20-25 minutes out of a 93 minute movie, and fewer lines. And besides- if Monsters Inc 2 were to ever come out, I'd probably be over 20... I mean, we're looking at it being after Cars 2, so that means 11+ years after the original.
Like I said- I don't want to come off as being negative. I'm not trying to say that I don't like Monsters Inc, because I do. And yes, the movie ends with a sorta cliffie. But waiting over seven years for a sequel- that isn't good. I mean, Star Wars- we waited 22 years for the next installment, the prequels. But hey- I wasn't waiting all those years. However, with Pixar, I have been. Ask me two years ago, I would've been all "Whoo! Let's see MI2!" but now... I dunno...

My two cents for the Disney-peeps regarding the Toy Story franchise is to just… leave it alone. The second one was actually as good as the original, if not better, and another sequel might disrupt that perfect continuum. Besides, what more is there to tell about the characters? Evens so, the buggers would still get my money in ticket sales, as I make it a point to try to see most of their films… and I still love the original with all of my heart… >3< I have, however, learned to be a bit more cautious with “announcements” regarding sequels, TS3 had/has so much false buzz that it's practically pathetic. Moving right along, I don’t think you’re being negative by being doubtful/skeptical, facts are facts, and while they aren’t really hope-inspiring they are true. (But seriously, seven years?! Gosh darn, time does pass by quickly.) I‘ll admit, MI2 has become something of a back-burner for me; It comes to mind every now and then and I’ll go search for more news, but I’m not on the edge of my seat foaming at the mouth with hope. Like you, Rain Boggs, I was probably more enthusiastic a few years ago, and in time I’ve become a bit less inspired, but doesn’t that happen with all things? Like… um… I don’t know, popular video games perhaps? I know that some titles are waited for for a long while after the first makes an impact, and even then announced a few years in advance, but people still buy them. Hmm, that’s not a very good example… what I’m trying to convey is that if the Pixar people played their cards right and started building up hype with trailers and promotions, it’s possible that they could still get a large enough audience that the film would be a profitable endeavor. Indeed, maybe they’d be able to draw in new youngin’s (along with the diehard fans of the original), in order to replace the ones that had moved on. *optimistic music plays in background* If a Monster’s, Inc. sequel is announced in some far off year, I’ll most certainly go see it. Should Ran be cast once more as a villain, I am slightly shamed to say that I would still attend- just seeing his character getting more screen time to do things (such as walking! Yay!) would be worth while. I wonder, do you know if there’s any sort of ‘petition’ for a sequel to MI? Not for specifics, I know the policy at the Big Wig’s is against that, just any sort of follow-up. (Ohyes, apologies if this post sounds journal-esque. Forums are a bit frightful.)
