IF the idea of a Monsters, Inc. 2 appeals to anyone, that is! On the Upcoming Pixar blog, it is revealed that Pixar currently has SIX films in production, which means that they are past the writing stage and into the actual "making the movie" stage. One of these is an "untitled" film directed by Peter Docter. When last mentioned on Jimhillmedia.com, it was said that Mr. Docter, who directed the original M.I., would direct the sequel as well. Peter Docter was born on August 10, 1968 ib Bloomington, Minnesota, USA. He is a film director, best known for Monsters, Inc., a Pixar film.
Now some may question Wikipedia info, but think of this. ISN'T he best know for M.I.? And since it's an original featured film of his, maybe it really IS the one he's making ^_^
Not to mention that the movie's previous sets and such are still in the company, so it would seem easier to beef up on those than make a new one ^_^

Even the blogspot that I read it on has since been "absorbed" by Pixarplanet.com(NOT that this is bad, mind you). Disney/Pixar just released their movie release dates all the way through 2012, and Monsters, Inc. 2 is NOT one of them. Cars is getting a sequel, as is Toy Story, but no mention of M.I. 2 whatsoever, either for release or as in-production. pitbulllady |

And hey we can always hope for 2013 or up ;D There's been a lot of unofficial stuff about TS3, much of which is probably either rumor/fan speculation, or some vestige of a plot that was to have been filmed by Disney's now-defunct Circle 7 Studios. If you recall, that studio was created by ex-Disney CEO Michael Eisner for the sole purpose of creating direct-to-DVD "cheap-quels" of the Pixar movies, in order to rile Steve Jobs, basically. After Robert Iger took over as CEO of Disney, and sealed an official merger with Pixar, thus giving Pixar back their characters, that studio was dismantled. What gets me is that Pixar is making a sequel to one of their most-recent-and least financially successful-movies, Cars. Now, don't get me wrong, I LOVED that movie, but it seems to me, that if you were going to do a sequel, pick an older movie and make a sequel to THAT, before people forget who the characters and the basic premise of the movie are. Case in point: all my students recognize Tow-Mater or Lightning McQueen, and know what movie they were in, but as recently as a few years ago, a lot of them hadn't heard of Monsters, Inc., since it was so before their time, so to speak, and consequently, had no idea who Randall was. At that time, a lot of them thought he was one of Jumba's "Experiments" from the "Lilo and Stitch" tv series, and now, most of them assume that he's one of the cast of "Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends"! They have no idea that this character, whom they see artwork and figurines of all around my classrooms, was in a movie! Even though M.I. was one of Pixar's most successful movies, in terms of box office/DVD sales, it's been given the least attention when it comes to follow-up marketing. Perhaps they just can't come up with a solid idea for a sequel to Monster's Inc. Honestly I can't outright say that I want a sequel. Character changes aren't always for the better. I guess if it was with the original directors it might be good but I tend not to trust sequels unless at least half of the staff came back for it and even then sequels tend to lose some of the, dare I say, charm of the movie that you first watched. Just look at the countless remakes now-a-days.

Just look at the countless remakes now-a-days. I wouldn't want a sequel myself unless Randall returned and was given a chance to redeem himself. That is NOT the same as a "character change", but rather showing a different side to an established character that was there all along. Characters SHOULD be given a chance to develop and progress if a sequel is made, but a sequel that's just to see more of the "Our Heroes Mike and Sulley"? Nope, don't think so. I didn't buy that clunker of a notion the first time it showed up on the lot, and I still wouldn't drive it away today. However, I'm confident, that if any studio can actually pull of a really good sequel, it's Pixar. Look at Toy Story 2, which I actually believe to be superior to the first one. It's really unfair to compare Pixar's works with the "countless re-makes"(which is not the same as a sequel, by the way) and hastily-made sequels of other studios. pitbulllady |

Just look at the countless remakes now-a-days. First TY3. I heard the original script, mostly made by Circle 7, was of the Buzz line being recalled for some apparent reason and involves a rescue. This MAY not be a good one to keep on the pull since basically a rescue for Woody was done in the second one and would just seem too familiar. Another thing I heard that may have come from the same script is that the ending involved all the toys being in a daycare center, where they would be played with seemingly forever by in-and-out kids. That sounds like a good end to me, one that would sorta "wrap it up" Yeah Pitbulllady I don't get that either. But I DO recall that the first thing Pete said on the matter of an M.I. movie is that they need a "killer idea" to make a sequel. Well if he's willing to HAVE one, and idea is just there at their front door. Ran's return and redemption. I mean, would give Pixar a chance to take the "turnaround" of someone's character, from being disliked to being loved. I mean each of Pixar's movies seems to have a universal theme, from "anyone can be great" (Ratatouille, but I'm just altering the one line so just overall) to "fame isn't everything" (in Cars, again just my speculation heh). And this one for Ran would be "people can change" or "never judge a book by it's cover". Sure, might be a little dark here and there, though Ratatouille seemed to cover that well with the rat scene heh heh ^_^ I just can't understand why Pixar doesn't see THAT as their idea... |

Yeah, I wouldn't want a sequel of Monsters, Inc. either, if Mike and Sulley would continue being the heroes. If it were up to me to write the sequel, it would be Randall-centric, giving him a chance to show his softer side that we all know exists.

I dunno. I'm torn about the idea of a sequel. If it's just going to be more Randall-bashing, then I don't think it's worth it...Anyway, I'm generally not keen on Pixar sequelizing any of their movies.
