I know there was possibly threads about this on the old Boggs Board, but I guess since there's plenty new members this will be okay to post. My brother just bought me the 'Essential Guide' at the Flea Market. God, I just hate it when they make Ran look mean, but I guess, as much as people here like to think otherwise and I do, he WAS meant to be a bad guy. But ... 'frightening fronds'? Oo; ....
.... That's like putting an arrow to Jafar's hat and saying 'Horrifying hat'. O__O
C'mon, they could've done better than that ...
And Waternoose better look out- I love Crab Meat ... though I might not eat him- he looks disgusting, but I could scare him with a couple of shell-crackers ;D
Note- this thread will probably be a lost cause and I will possibly get poked at for being a moron, as usual ^^;

I guess they thought the evilness was distributed equally all throughout Randall; right down to his fronds. Or up. Whatever... What does the whole thing say?

LOL! No problem, join the dunce club! ;D
*hands trademark cone hat*
Woot! *dances*
Hmm, I remember that thing! Poor Ran:( He did look quite evil in the thing, didn't he? I don't know how much of a "bad guy" he was meant to be. I think the writers / character designers tried to plant a little seed in the minds of the audience that he is a complex, fascinating character. However, it being a children's movie, direct actions of characters are recognized by companies who want to make dough off their books, write them in 35 seconds and ship 'em off.
LOL! I hate crab! Eww... Can you imagine a Red Lobster sommercial with Waternoose on a plate? Speaking of the R.L commercials, anyone seem the one with adorable little Muppet Pepe eating what he doesn't know to be king prawns? Priceless!

Hold on, I'll write it ...
'He's sneaky, he's sly, he's creepy, he's underhand, and he'll do anything to become the top Scarer at Monsters, Inc. Randall Boggs is a calculating, lizard-shaped monster with eight arms and legs and a mouthful of sharp teeth. He is in direct competition with Sulley to break the all-time scare record, and he is confident that he will succeed. He can't wait to knock Sulley from the top Scarer spot.'
And on his pic, there's just an arrow pointing to his body parts- 'Frightening Fronds', Whiplike tail, shifty eyes, and chameleon scales.
Sly, I can understand, but creepy ... I find him cute =3 lol

I LOVE PEPE! xD And Beaker =3 I didn't get to see that commercial though ... Yeah, like I said I like crab but I wouldn't eat Waternoose - he's bad so he must taste bad as well xP But I love Sebastian! He's probably the only crab I know of that I like .... not to eat! To snuggle ^__^ Lol, my Dad just bought me a huge Sebastian plush today ^^

Mike also describes Randall as a "creep", most likely for the same reason the books do-he is SCALY. He's REPTILIAN-and reptiles like snakes and lizards are of course, mean and creepy and slimy and all of those nasty things, so Randall MUST be the same, right? WRONG, on all accounts! Sometimes I want to just get ahold of every single reptile-hater who is still living in the Dark Ages and just b***h-slap some sense into them, that and tie them down with their eyelids propped open in front of a widescreen tv and make 'em watch every single episode every made of "The Crocodile Hunter", non-stop, back-to-back.

Yeah, I hate the way they portray him ... I can't wait to work for Disney and POSSIBLY get the chance to make some other people see him differently =)

*sigh* That'd be a great idea, pitbulllady.
I've actually never seen the MI Essential Guide. But of course leave it to them to write some more of the same crud about Randall! 'Frightening fronds'...wtf?! There's nothing frightening about them...of course, I'm sure they must've been writing for four-year-olds...
Mmm, Waternoose crab meat...well, I hate seafood, but there's gotta be somebody out there who'd eat him and consider it a delicacy. Throw him into the human world, I say! Let somebody catch him and cook him. ;D

Lol, yeah ;D
I haven't seen Little Mermaid in quite some time, but I think that psychotic chef from that film wouldn't mind cooking him ;D ;D

Aww...I love Pepe too. Aww, never seen that commercial? Haha it's so cute. His eyes get huge and he looks at the fork with this horrified look on his face. Yeah. Poor Randall! Oh gosh - Louis! Whee! Haha, he reminded me of my fourth grade French teacher. Without the butcher knife Waternoose would probably feed a small, unfortunate village for a year or two. Blech though!

I own the Essential Guide too; not really much to look at, is there? I did appreciate the huge picture of Randall, even if he's in the traditional "Look how sly and evil I am" pose.

It says the same thing on the bonus DVD of MI too- the whole 'frightening fronds' thing. I think it's either Smitty or Needleman reading it out for you, and when he says it...When you turn over the page to Randall, he's like, "AAARGH!! It's Randall! Oh...it's only a book." Idiot. And I don't see how his fronds are frightening, either. If Pixar wanted them to be frightening, they'd be dangerous and sharp and lethal.

They're describing his dark side better than him in actuality...
