I just saw Monsters Inc. in Spanish this night. Let me tell you, Mike and Sulley sounded weird! But Randall sounded so...so nice!

I haven't even tried playing the DVD in other languages yet. How about French-tried that one yet? I know that Randall is quite popular in France, too, those they call him "Leon" for some reason over there.

Why is it the chameLEON/lizard characters always get called Leon? (I'm only running on Leon from Starfox, though, so ignore that.)
I haven't watched the whole thing, but it was hilarious to watch the Let's-Splice-In-Every-Single-Language-On-The-Green-Planet-For-A-Fifteen-Minute-Piece in extras...and I learned something, too. Something about Mike Wazowski is annoying as get-out in ANY language.

The copy of the DVD I own has a French language feature (I believe they have to have one, to sell it in Canadian stores - or perhaps it's just good buisness sense. Meh). They only have the vocal bit (no French subtitles, unfortunately). I personally like reading the French subtitles, because when they do a French vocal, it always sounds way too rushed (mostly because it takes more words/sylables, overall, to say something in French than English). So, you end up getting less said in the vocal bit, but the subtitles stay more true to the original story - plus you can get more colourful expressions in the subtitles, because you have space. Anyway, I only watched part of the French overlay - it wasn't very good. I like the clip of the France French one (you know, on the Special Features disc where they have a clip from the walk to work to right as Wazowski enters the scarefloor for the first time? And they switch languages like, twenty times? It's really cool). The one I have is a different version from the Special Features disc and the one I can listen to in full. I assume it's because I have the Canadian-released version, with both English and French, not the one released in France. I've heard the voice artist who does Sullivan before - he's used often for movie translations (I've heard him when we have to watch movies in FLA). His voice sounds really dopey (which I guess would suit the character in this case, but it's really annoying). The reason I had to stop watching was because they got Randall's voice all wrong - it was a completely different voice type to the English version - several octaves lower, like, no emotion whatsoever... bleh. I could type several pages just listing what I didn't like about his voice. Maybe one of the reasons I hate it so much is because Steve did such an awesome job originally? Did I get my hopes up for the French version? Oh, and I know where they get "Leon" from - chame leon (is the French spelling the same as the English one? I don't know how to spell it in English). It's a suffix (the sound of it, anyway) that's used often in French. Just listen to someone pronounce "Leon" and "Nouveau Orleans" (New Orleans) the French way, and you can see the resemblance. I'm not sure how to explain the way you pronounce "n" in French like that... It's sorta like you cut off the "n" sound before it's fully formed. Unless you hear it yourself, you can't really immagine what it's like. See, "Orleans" isn't pronounced "Or-leens" in French: it's three sylables, "or-leh-ahn" (sorta cut off the "n" sound, there). So, "Leh-ohn", to me, sounds like a decent French name - sounds more natural that simply saying "Rahn-dahll" in the middle of a French sentence (sounds jarring). Meh. I think French is an awesome, gracefull, beautiful language, and I'm pretty enthusiastic about it. Sorry if I bored you guys.

You didn't bore me at all--I'm a language fiend. You too? *high fives* Do you speak any other languages? I took a basic Spanish course last year, and I'm pretty fluent in French (and English, duh). My dad is fluent in German, so I'm thinking of trying that language out (modern German's supposed to be more similar to old English than modern English is - cool, eh?). My goal one day is to learn either Latin (one of the reasons I took Spanish in the first place - it's a latin-based language), and/or Welsh. Yes, Welsh. That language, when spoken by a native speaker just sounds so... beautiful. ^_^

Leon?
"Why does that sound......right for me?"
I don't know.... Maybe.....Squall? Squall Leonheart? He was called Leon in Kingdom Hearts and...
"What the heck kind of connection are you making here?"
I don't.....Leon....
"Hey!"

Beboots--yeah, I have several years of German. ^_^ And it is indeed close to Old English--reading the King James Bible, you see an absolute similarity in syntax and grammar usage. It's a cool language altogether. My parents met and married in Germany, and I'm almost half German.
I have a friend who lives in Wales, and her accent is just beautiful. She, however, claims she likes my nasal Yankee twang better! Isn't that always how it is with accents?...

Italian would be neat to hear. French accents get on my nerves, though. I 'spose tomorrow (or today, whatever, 2:50 AM) I'll watch a bit of it in the other languages they list out. Not japanese, though. They'll most likely sound awful... ;

I'd like to take French, but I'm still stuck with the usual Spanish.

Apparently, in some ways French and Spanish are quite similar, so it's a pain trying to learn both without getting all the little things mixed up.
