I know I posted this bad news on the Foster's Never Forgotten Forum, but since it was around 4 am, I can't remember if I posted it here or not, so I'll apologize if it is a double post.
When I first read this on someone's DA journal, I thought it was another urban legend/rumor about his death, since there have been many in the past. Sadly, though, it is true, and all the news services are carrying it now, from CNN to Yahoo. He was killed by a stingray barb to the heart while filming a documentary on Australia's Great Barrier Reef.
I will always owe thanks to Steve for helping to change so many attitudes, including that of my brother-in-law, whom I thought was beyond all hope, about reptiles. He fought an uphill battle all the way to show people that just because something is scaly, does not mean it's evil and out to get us, and that even the truely dangerous ones like Salty crocs deserve respect.
He will be missed greatly, but by the animals most of all.

Such an amazing guy, and the fact that his death has hit so many people just proves it. There's never been a guy like him before, and there never will be. R.I.P, Steve.

Yeah. Even though he was a little...eccentric about his work, the man positively showed little to no fear at all ^_^

His show was awesome. I watched it a lot when I was a kid, saw some episodes more recently ...
Rest in peace, Steve. =(

Yes, he was an extrodnary man, wasn't he? I'll be paying my respects by wearing a little black crocodile pin for the rest of the week.

I think it's quite likely that his two children will follow in his footsteps, as they had been exposed to animals from a very, very young age and will be quite used to them. They'd probably also want to honour their father's memory.

This is really sad. My friend and I were talking about him, except she perfered to talk about a dead panda in a movie.

I am terrified of bees. The thought of a stingray barb into the heart...English does not have a word.

True... It works out that he pulled the barb out before he died... *shudders* Not good...
He did a lot of work at the Crocodilus Park way up North of me... Visited and saw a bunch of crocs brought there to be healed up by his crew...
It's sad; I was horrified to hear what happened... He seemed almost immortal... -_-'
