Randall's premier researcher returns in this new game-informed edition.
Today, Disney Infinity put out it's second version of the match up of Disney/Pixar/Marvel characters. As per their usual, Disney aimed to make as much off this version as they did with the previous...
Yet they can't quite figure out how to keep a BGM rolling on heh heh.
Anyway, I won't go into great detail of the game, as I didn't touch the marvel Play Set yet, or their characters, and not work with the ToyBox much.
What I have done is complete the initial wave of missions, visited the INterior, did some missions there, and paused to take a break. Not hard to say who I picked to take with me on this exploration.
My Level 14 Randy of course (raised LEGITIMATELY. No leveling tricks here). Now, there's no real visual difference, and his moves are practically the same as they were (still calling his attack "Shoulder Charge" which is actually Sullivan's move, so they still haven't noticed that error), but the big interest is...the Skill Tree.
Having seen in previews/trailers that the marvel characters gained some awesome abilities through the Skill Tree, I was wondering what they were going to do with Randall, and I got my answer.
You can look at the skill tree, along with the abilities, without the need to buy. I already had some-what about 60 or so skill points to work with. But even at MAX level, you won't get everything. And choose carefully. You only get to reset them twice (for no real reason other than to bug you).
So what did Randall have?
Well.....not much. Randall's template is sorta more on the speedster of things. He has the general upgrades I suppose all characters have. Health upgrades (ending with a super one, which is strangely marked with a star), dmg increase (a few of those, including a super one), and ranged attack increases (ending in a super one).
Now, not sure if this is for each character, but Randall has some team-friendly skills. One decreases the time it takes to revive a friend or ally, and the other decreases the amount of health needed to do so. This MAY, if this is not an all-character accessible ability, put him up there as a "speedy medic" strangely enough.
You also can boost Randall's walking speed a couple times, which is good since there's no run button in the game. You can also increase the height of his base jump and the recharge rate for Powder discs.
An early power allows him to go a little Sora on this, by being able to make an aerial recovery when hit in the air.
He can also gain the ability to slam objects into the ground and increase the area of his down-strike smash. (whether this is uniquely changed according to each character, I'm unsure at the moment, given the limitations on resets).
Randall also gets the ability to repel an attack when it's about to hit. Whether this is a defensive or offensive move (do have it), I haven't experimented yet.
With that, an ability I think they borrow from Spider-man, Randall also has a "star ability" (like the largest health boost) that increases his ability to sense an enemy (thus the "spidey-sense" lines he gets over his head) and improves his ability to repel an attack. More so, he also gains the ability to reveal hidden items on the mini-map.
Oh yeah, we got a mini-map now. Buuuuut....sometimes it MAY disappear completely (and no, there's no button to turn it on or off, it just disappears. Try moving through a doorway and back and it might fix)
But anyway...
Seems that 1.0 characters do NOT get much in the way of special stuff...but they may be "borrowing" from archtypes. (maybe there's an ability for fighters, like Mr. Incredible, that improves attack speed or something).
Randall's repertoire seems to be quite diverse. He can up his normal stats like everyone (health and damage), can be helpful in multiplayer with the revive skills, should be fast enough to avoid unfortunate injury, but can also dish out damage when needs be.
So for now, some disappointment that he didn't get any unique abilities from what I see...but I'll hold off until I go further. I still have skill points to spend and other things for him to play around with (I loved him using a sword uniquely). So until later, this is what I've seen.
I'll probably compare character types to him as well as the new marvel characters and see where he stands more firmly.
