Hello, Pitbulllady.
I thought I'd share with you something that happened this morning...
I managed to catch 'Mulan II' on Disney Junior, and even though I have the DVD in the 'Mulan I & II Ultimate 3-disc, 2-movie Collector's Edition, I watched it anyway. In case you haven't seen it, the plotline revolves around Mushu learning that if Mulan gets married to Captain Li-Shang, Mushu can no longer be Mulan's guardian, which means he will lose his pedestal. This proves to be more than the cute little wisecracking dragon can bear. As a result, he spends the majority of the film thinking up a series of immature pranks and hang-ups and even lies against the two, hoping that he can get Mulan and Shang to break up. To make the long story short, Mushu ULTIMATELY learns the error of his ways, and once he learns that Mulan is on the verge of marrying someone else that she doesn't love, Mushu puts his hands on Mulan's face and says through tears "I'd give up a thousand pedestals if there was some way I could stop this...", and he ultimately gets to redeem himself of everything by keeping the authorities from arresting Captain Shang (he shows up uninvited at the wedding, a la 'The Graduate'), and Mushu gets to actually be the one to marry Mulan to Shang. Afterwards, Mushu comes to terms with himself and accepts the fact that he will no longer have his guardian pedestal... but then, a miracle happens when Mushu and the ancestors find that Shang has brought a tombstone to the shrine to 'unite the families'. With begrudging hesitation, the leader of the guardians tells Mushu that he gets to keep his pedestal after all.
WHAT I AM SAYING IS....... just like Mushu and his pedestal, Randall Boggs wanted to become the top scarer so badly, but his methods of trying to get there were mostly self-serving. Despite this, I personally wish that by the end of the third film, Randall COULD actually end up being declared the all-time best scarer. After being banished, of course, this wouldn't matter to him at all. He even states to Mike in the secret lab "You still think this is about that stupid scare record?", but once he has scared the humans invading the company, it would be nice for enough canisters to be filled to get him that first place position, but Randall isn't aware of this, and one of the things he could say to Sulley to further show his remorse would be to be WILLING to accept the fact that Sulley will remain #1, and Randall will stay at #2. But then... in a touching twist, Sulley could notice Randall's private sorrow, simply how hard it was for him to let go of that, and somehow... someway... he might be able confer with Roz privately over the canisters, and get those attached to the Scare Board, so those points can be tallied, which would ultimately put Randall in 1st place.
If you THINK about it, I really don't think Sulley will feel that he deserves to be the top scarer anymore, taking into account that he CHEATED to help Mike win at the Scare Games, illegally banished his rival through a door into the Human World, and (if our speculations are accurate) that Sulley failed to scare the human invaders and was overpowered by them. If it was done like this, not only would Sulley be acting as a true friend toward Randall, but a profound lesson in humility and letting go would be shown, as well. Once Randall lets go of his ambition and desire to become the #1 scarer, and puts his friend first... THEN, Randall will actually be ready to have that victory he desired so badly given to him in the end, which would be the result of Sulley's own desire to acknowledge Randall's profound, selfless, and heroic endeavors to save the entire company and his fellow monsters, because he simply feels that he owes it to Randall.
I don't know about you, but that would move me deeply.... and I think it would move Randall, too!
