How many wonderful examples I've seen with groups of threes... 3 Deathly Hallows, 3 Back to the Future films, 3 'The Hobbit' films, 3 'The Lord of the Rings' films, 3 'The Santa Clause' films, and the list goes on...
...but perhaps two of the sweetest examples of threes I've seen are shown in Super Nintendo/Game Boy Advance videogames! Think about it...
The DONKEY KONG COUNTRY TRILOGY! What do we get?
1. DONKEY KONG COUNTRY 1 - features Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong
2. DONKEY KONG COUNTRY 2: DIDDY'S KONG QUEST - features Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong
3. DONKEY KONG COUNTRY 3: DIXIE KONG'S DOUBLE TROUBLE - features Dixie Kong and Kiddy Kong
The characters in the series really SHARE the story in a lovely way... which is why I felt it worth mentioning.
Also... in 'Tetris Attack', in the nice little 'How to Improve' strategy technique demos menu, there are 3 phases: Combos, Chains, and Skill Chains, and each phase is hosted by one of the 3 most prominent characters in the game:
1. 'Combos' is hosted by Yoshi (and his sidekick, Baby Yoshi)
2. 'Chains' is hosted by Lakitu (and his sidekick, Goonie)
3. 'Skill Chains' is hosted by Poochy (and his sidekick, Grinder)
On top of that, the demos are accompanied by some very relaxing background music. Ah, the serenity.
NOW..... to all viewers who felt Randall's horrible absence after he got banished in 'Monsters, Inc.', imagine THIS:
1. 'Monsters University' is about Mike Wazowski
2. 'Monsters, Inc.' is about James P. Sullivan
3. 'Monsters 3' is about Randall Boggs
So... you get 2 films that show poor Randall getting humiliated, in which Mike and Sulley get their moment in the spotlight, but for that elusive THIRD film... that all needs to change. We finally need to see RANDALL have his moment in the spotlight. The thread is to discuss the logic and artistry in the character arcs throughout the films, but still... we're all in agreement that 'Monsters 3' needs to be RANDALL'S STORY. Hands down.
